2 PASTORAL CHAT My dear readers, 1. World Leader in Creationism Dr Henry Morris ( , aged 87) was a world leader and authority on Creation. He served as professor of engineering (and related disciplines) in three universities in USA. He was a co-founder of the Creation Research Society, President of the Institute of Creation Research and a leading apologist for Creationism in the Creation-Evolution Controversy. Dr Henry Morris wrote many books on Creation and against the theory and deception of Evolution. His major works were the Genesis Record (1978) and The Genesis Flood (co-authored with Dr John Whitcomb, 1961). The following Testimony is an excerpt from his Foreword to his book That their words may be used against them (1977). 2. Testimony of Dr Henry Morris While serving as a young engineering instructor on the faculty of a secular university, and also trying to be a faculty advisor to a Christian student club on campus, it soon became obvious that the Bible, if taken literally, contradicted my rather naïve acceptance of the evolutionism I had been taught in high school and college. This conflict became especially apparent when I tried to answer questions by students we were trying to reach for Christ. Accordingly, I began an intensive study of both the Bible and the literature on evolution in the university library of which there was an abundance. Two important conclusions resulted from this study. First, a verse-by-verse study of the entire Bible made it crystal clear that there was no way the Bible could legitimately be harmonized with evolutionary theory. Conversely, the Bible yielded numerous evidences of its own divine inspiration, and spoke accurately whenever it touched on real science, even containing many scientific insights that were not confirmed by actual scientific studies until thousands of years later. Secondly, my reading in the evolutionary books and articles convinced me that evolutionism was nothing but a philosophical belief with no scientific proof whatever. The types of speculative evidences cited in this literature were in no way commensurate with the scientific data required in engineering design, for example. The scientific method so often mentioned in the scientific engineering literature stressed the necessity of actual study and measurement of observable systems and processes, with further replication and confirmation. But evolutionism offered none of this. No real evolution from one kind to a different kind had ever been observed in all known history, and the supposed prehistoric record in the fossils yielded no true macro-evolutionary transitional series whatever only a few questionable mosaics such as the oft cited Archaeopteryx. As much as anything, therefore, the evolutionary literature convinced me of the necessary truth of primeval special creation. This, of course, was also what I had

3 found the Bible to teach. That was over fifty years ago. Since that time I have continued to read very extensively the writings by evolutionists, and have also continued to study the Bible daily. And everything I have ever read, in both fields, continues to confirm ever more strongly the fact that the evolutionary philosophy is completely false. The universe and all its systems, particularly the many kinds of organisms on Earth were supernaturally created by God. (End of excerpt) 3. Another World Leader in Creationism From our neighbour down under comes another eminent leader in the Creation verses Evolution controversy. Dr Carl Wieland, Managing Director of Creation Ministries International, has spoken at Pandan s pulpit on three previous occasions. On Lord s Day 26 June he will speak on Creation Evangelism: Turning men and women to faith in our Lord. The message of Creation is about the Creator, our Lord Jesus, who is also our Saviour. He not only died but also rose from the dead, having conquered death for us. That is Gospel or Good News that Jesus saves! The ministry of CMI reaches to all parts of the world. Many hearers among the global audience are blessed, strengthened in their Christian faith. Testimonies received from hearers testify to the converting power of the CMI messages. The following three testimonies were recently received from CMI, Australia and are reproduced for readers encouragement. Testimony 1 Thank you for all the wonderful books and DVDs you have made available to me. I was a struggling Christian but not any more! God bless you and thank you for helping me. I have already had an effect on strengthening the faith of some work colleagues by unashamedly discussing how God created everything. I was even blessed enough to be part of a young man's return to Christ, just by reading and discussing the literature CMI has provided. About 5 years ago, a creationist speaker visited our church. I had always thought that Darwinism had "science" on its side while Christianity was left with simple - almost blind - faith. This speaker rocked my world to its foundation. I built an enviable personal library and immersed myself in creationist books. I believe the creation message is the most important Good News we can share with the world, and I am committed to faithfully support CMI till Jesus comes! God bless you all. 4 DEVOTION Dear Brethren, Looking Forward to Camp? Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2Ti 2:15) This week, I am back in Malaysia, this time in West Malaysia, at Subang Jaya, KL. I am writing this from the comforts of my room at Empire Hotel, about 5 minutes drive from our main campsite at Holiday Inn Glenmarie Hotel. The reason why I m here is because our main campsite is full! By God s grace, though the committee only planned and booked for about 400+ people, a record number of almost 600 people signed up. Thus more than a hundred campers had to be accommodated at a nearby hotel. Whilst this proved to be a huge logistical nightmare for the committee, it is a happy problem for us to have, to know that so many people in church are willing to set aside a whole week to come apart and engage in an intensive study of God s Word. It is said that having a week of church camp, is like having many months worth of church compacted into 5-6 days. For us, by the end of this week, we would be have heard a total of 4 morning devotions, 13 messages, spent 4 hours in discussion, and countless others in blessed fellowship with our fellow brethren. This is indeed a blessed foretaste of the joys that we would have in heaven, spending time with God and fellowshipping with the saints. For our upcoming family camp in July, we can look forward to listening to 2 morning devotions, 8 messages, participating in 3 workshops, having 7 discussion sessions, and numerous other games and activities. All these would be centred around the theme of what it means to be A Church After God s Own Heart. This is certainly a most pertinent topic for all of us, as I am sure that we all desire a healthy vibrant church to worship in. The only basis upon which we can know and understand God s plan and pattern for our church, is if we go to the Word of God, and seek His instructions for us from it. We all ought to be diligent students of His Word, to show ourselves approved unto God, like workmen who would not be ashamed but proud with the fruits of their labour. We must dig deep into the Bible, to mine the hidden gems that are nestled within, and from there, to find out how God wants us our church to be like, and instruct us on how each and every one of us can fulfil our role within it. In order for that to happen, all of us who are able, should really try to be at the camp to learn these lessons together, and return with a strong resolve to do our part in the church. The only way in which our church can become a church after God s own heart, is if all of us know what needs to be done, and then we do it to the best of our abilities. Thus I ask the same question as I asked last week: Have you signed up for camp yet? I understand that the registration had officially closed last week, but I am also told that there are still 15 places (maybe less now) available for anyone who still wants to join. If you are able, please to try to make an effort to come and be blessed! There aren t many other better ways to spend your annual leave (or no-pay leave if necessary) than to spend it with God s people, studying God s Word! In Christ, Lingkang

5 ANNOUNCEMENTS, PRAISE & PETITIONS 1. As mentioned last week, today we are launching the Scripture Memory Program. Every worshipper will be given a pamphlet with a list of the verses we will be memorizing. Then each week cards (in either Chinese or English) will be made available of the verse of the week. We pray that the Lord will use this program to aid us in our walk with God, and prepare us for more effective service. Everyone, whether young or old, is encouraged to participate and strive to hide God s Word in their hearts. There will also be awards given for the successful completion of this program. Please do pray for this program, and prepare your hearts to take up this challenge. The pamphlet provides suggestions as to how you can most effecttively memorize Scripture. The weekly Scripture memory verse will also be found in the Church Weekly, replacing the Catechism question and answer. 2. Fellowship Lunch: Next Sunday. Please bring a dish to share. 3.
