To respond to this calling, we will nurture each other in the Christian faith, we will work so that all people can experience God s love, and we will examine critically and respond prayerfully to the difficult issues that face us.

4 Communion Please approach the altar using the center aisle. You may kneel or stand at the communion rail. Please speak your name to the servers so that you may receive the bread and cup by name. We receive by intinction. (As you receive the bread, hold it until the cup is offered. Dip the bread into the cup and then eat.) When you are ready, you may return to your seat using the side aisles. If you are unable to come to the altar, please tell an usher so that we may serve you in your seat. Our communion bread is free of both gluten and egg. All people gathered to worship God are invited to receive the bread and the cup. I fear no foe, with thee at hand to bless; ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness; Where is death s sting? Where grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if thou abide with me. 8 ANNOUNCEMENTS St. John s Organ Project We have raised $63, of our $70,000 goal. Work on the organ begins tomorrow! Stay tuned for updates. If your contribution is $10,000 or $1, we would love for you to have ownership of this project. Your gift can be a one-time donation or in installments. To learn more about our St. John's organ, please visit Spirit Wind in June We are excited to host Spirit Wind for a concert on Sunday, June 11, at 7:00 p.m. They have their tour bus for transportation and the youth are providing a meal. We have hotel rooms booked for them that night, so if you would like to donate money to help fund those rooms, please drop it by the church office or place it in the offering plate. (Include "Spirit Wind Hotel" in the memo of your check.) Please join us on the evening of June 11 for great music! Spirit Wind will also use our building for their Pre-Tour Rehearsals June 4-8. We have hotel and meals covered, but if you are willing to help with transportation we could use some volunteers. We are looking for drivers June 4-8. 9 ANNOUNCEMENTS 2017 Annual Conference The Northwest Texas Annual Conference will be June 8-10 at the Overton Hotel, located at 2322 Mac Davis Lane, Lubbock, TX, If you are interested in attending, you may register at There will also be a Pre-Annual Lubbock District Conference Meeting tomorrow, Monday, May 8, at 6:30 p.m. at First UMC Lubbock. The meeting is open to any members of the congregation who want to attend. This meeting is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the church on a district, as well as conference level. Confirmation We are excited to announce that our Confirmation Class of will be recognized for completing the Confirmation course on Pentecost Sunday, June 4. Please join us to celebrate! There will be no 8:15 a.m. service on Pentecost Sunday. The white rose on the altar is in honor of the birth of John Curtis Sobehrad, son of Lindsey and Lane Sobehrad. 8

Lubbock Interfaith Dialogue Lubbock Interfaith Dialogue s (LID) monthly noon meeting on May 11 will feature Erin Shaw on the topic Interrogating the Divine: How can a good and powerful God allow evil and suffering? Discussion will be based on Bart Ehrmen's book, God's Problem. The one-hour meeting will be held in the conference room. This free event is open to all. People of Faith Against Death Penalty The People of Faith Against the Death Penalty group holds prayer vigils in front of St. John's from 5:45-6:15 p.m. on the night of executions.
