3 Gathering Prelude Adoro Devote *Call to Worship All: All: All: Fifth Sunday after the Epiphany February 5, 2017 The Worship of God - 8:15 a.m. Service ENTRANCE Clint Barrick French Eucharistic Melody On this day of worship we gather in God s presence with hope, with wonder, with joy. And we pray: Holy, Holy, Holy, God of power and might, the whole earth is filled with your glory! Yet we know that your beloved world is riddled with sadness, for need encounters greed, conflict and war seem endless. We listen for the call: Whom shall I send? Who will go for us? We gather to be consoled and to console, to be strengthened and to strengthen, to be changed and to change, so that in hope, in wonder and in joy we may answer: Here I am! Send me! Let us worship together. The season of Epiphany marks the conclusion of the Advent- Christmas season. The Epiphany season begins on the Day of Epiphany, January 6, when the Church recalls the arrival of the magi at the birthplace of the Christ Child. The Epiphany season extends to the beginning of the season of Lent on Ash Wednesday. As the season of Advent emphasizes the biblical stories that express hope and anticipation of a coming divine revelation, the season of Epiphany contemplates and celebrates all that is revealed in the arrival of the Christ Child. The season also points to all the moments in history and life when light shines clearly on the self-serving powers of this world and their resistance to God's ways. The "light" that shines in the season of Epiphany calls faithful people to faithful action. *Hymn, No Together We Serve The Faith We Sing SAN ANSELMO PROCLAMATION AND RESPONSE *Gospel Lesson Matthew 5:13-20 N.T. p. 4 The good news of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God! Sermon What You Are Rev. Jam hiems transiit, imber abiit et recessit, Flores apparuerunt in terra nostra, tempus putationis advenit. I am a dark-skinned but beautiful daughter of Jerusalem, Therefore have I pleased the Lord, and He said to me: Arise my love and come. For now the winter is past, the rain is over and gone, The flowers have appeared in our land, the time of pruning is come. 2

Online Giving is possible through our website at online-giving Or scan the QR code below: Light of the World, may Jesus the Christ shine in and through our hearts and lives, that we may be beacons of your compassion and justice with one another and in witness to all who lead: With all who are sick and those who care for them With all who are being oppressed and those who advocate for them With all who are hungry or naked or homeless and those who offer food, clothing and shelter... With our local, county, state, and federal elected representatives and leaders... With leaders in government, politics, and corporations around the world With the earth and all creatures, and for all who work to sustain our common life... We pray as Jesus taught us: Thy kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven.
