5 MINISTRY OF EVANGELIZATION Catechesis and Spiritual Development Adult Faith Formation (FaithFusion) It is a dynamic faith formation program for men and women to connect into the richness of our Roman Catholic Christian Faith and the members of the St. Elizabeth s Parish family. Come, build on the foundations and cornerstones of your faith with this opportunity for all adults. 6 Cornerstone Team - Men s and Women s This is an opportunity for all men and women of St. Elizabeth s to grow spiritually in our parish community. Hosted by a core team of past participants on site at our church facility, the separate men s and women s weekends give candidates an intense faith experience through talks, small group discussions, and quiet reflective time. The Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist are celebrated as part of the weekend. Men s - Fr. Catechesis is offered in grades K though 9. Once a month the Prayer Chain is mailed to parishioners who will pray for these people and their intentions. 7 Pre-Cana Married couples who are willing to share the joys and struggles of Catholic married life are invited to join the Pre-Cana team. This program is for engaged couples who are preparing for the Sacrament of Marriage at St. Elizabeth s or other diocesan parishes. Workshops are given twice a year: in the fall and spring on Sunday from 8:30 a.m. 5:00 p.m. at St. Elizabeth s. Teams of experienced, married couples discuss topics such as family life, communication, decision-making, spirituality and financial planning and facilitate small group discussions. Fr. Provides instructions for adult s preparation for Baptism, Confirmation and First Communion. If anyone is interested in completing their Sacraments of Initiation or joining the Catholic Church, this ministry provides the time to inquire, learn and prepare. Vincent D'Agostino FrVincent@saintelizabeths.org x 209 Scripture Sharing This informal small group meets on Tuesday mornings from September to May in the St. Francis Room of the Parish Center. You re encouraged to share your thoughts and opinions with respect to our Sunday readings. Various sources are employed, including guided imaging. Different material is used each week, so you won t feel lost if you are not able to attend every session. All are welcome. Ronnie Gringeri Vacation Bible Camp Vacation Bible Camp is a week-long morning program for kids in 1st through 5th grade, that runs during the last week of June each year. Program theme is supported by interactive activities which include skits, videos, crafts, games and snacks. This is a unique camp experience where kids learn stories and verses through song, prayer and FUN, FUN, FUN!!! Parents and teen volunteers are a vital and an integral part of the program. 8 Walking with Christ Throughout the year, the Walking with Christ team offers opportunities to hear wonderful speakers on various topics that inspire our lives as disciples of Jesus. 9 MINISTRY SUPPORT FOR WORSHIP Altar Servers Boys and girls of our parish, 3 rd grade through 12 th grade are invited to participate in the Liturgy in a meaningful way as altar servers. All that s required is a desire to share actively in the Mass, a commitment to the rotating assignments and an openness to grow spiritually. Training is provided. Ryan LaDuca Johnladuca249@aol.com Art and Environment This ministry plans and prepares the Liturgical Environment to aid and enhance our prayer during the times of Advent, Christmas, Easter, Pentecost, and Ordinary Time. Keri Rigoli jrigs67@aol.com Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion Ministers are invited to assist the celebrant in the distribution of the Eucharist at weekend, daily and holy day Masses. Ministers also visit the sick and bring them the Eucharist. Ann Townley aotjwt@gmail.com Gather the Children Elementary school-aged children and their parents will find this program a happy alternative to squirming in the pews! Two Sundays a month from October through June, children in grades 1-5 who attend the 10:30 a.m. Mass are invited to the Elizabeth Room to celebrate and understand the Liturgy of the Word. Catechists couple the day s readings with fun enrichment activities to broaden the children s understanding of Scripture and prayer. Family events directly following 10:30 a.m. Mass on various weekends throughout the year Look for flyers and news in the bulletin. Gather the Children Team: Volunteers work in groups and serve one Mass a month. They also are asked to attend an organizational meeting in the fall and a year-end celebration in the spring. 10 Lectors The gifts of a strong voice, good diction and a desire to proclaim the Liturgy of the Word 6 during the Masses characterize our lectors. Lectors are asked to serve once a month from a rotating schedule of Sunday s and Holy Days. Training is provided. Those interested in participating in this ministry should contact the coordinator for more details. Dr. Geri Gaynor drgibbia@yahoo.com Liturgy Planners Committee The Liturgical Planning Committee coordinates all aspects of liturgy throughout the year at our parish. The Liturgy Planner Committee closely works with the priests, staff and other principal ministries at St. Elizabeth s. The Liturgical Planner Committee supervise and support the works undertaken by the Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, Lectors, Greeters, Ushers, Sacristans, Altar Servers, Music Ministry, Sacramental Ministries and Art and Environment Committee during all liturgical seasons and the celebration of the Sacraments. Music is a vital component of our liturgical celebration and St. Elizabeth s offers many opportunities for those who enjoy liturgical music, as a singer or instrumentalist. Festival Choir All enthusiastic adults who have basic singing ability are invited to join this choir. The choir performs, classical and traditional liturgical music at Sunday Masses, special liturgies and at the annual Christmas Concert. Rehearsals are one evening a week. Contemporary Choir All enthusiastic adults who have basic singing ability are invited to join this choir. The choir performs contemporary liturgical music twice a month at Sunday Masses, special liturgies and at the Annual Christmas Concert. Rehearsals are one evening a week. Youth Choir This choir is open to all children in grades 4 through 8, and is a good introduction to choral music for young people. 11 Sacristan The sacristan carefully arranges the liturgical books, the vestments, and other things necessary in the celebration of Mass. Nancy Hohmann Ushers /Greeters Our ushers/greeters provide guidance and assistance to all who attend Sunday Masses. They coordinate the offering baskets, choose the gift bearers for the Offertory and oversee the flow of traffic at Communion. They serve at the Mass of their choice on weekends and serve on Holy Days. Ushers: Richard Greenwood Greeters: Susan Foy Wedding Ministry Couples requesting to be married at St. Elizabeth's must contact the parish office one year in advance of the desired wedding date. One member of the couple should be an active member of the parish and both need to be canonically free from any previous marital unions. In discussion with the priest whom they choose to witness their ceremony they will work out an appropriate schedule of preparations including Pre-Cana. 12 MINISTRY OF STEWARDSHIP Administration, Maintenance & Activities Building and Maintenance The Building & Maintenance serves as an advisory resource for the pastor and maintenance lead of the parish. Its function is to review and set priorities for the repair and maintenance of the parish buildings and surrounding grounds. This committee also provides advice on the scope and cost of capital improvements to the St. Elizabeth s Parish facilities. An active, well-formed Parish Finance Council is a key element for promoting the financial health of a parish, assuring accountability and assisting the pastor with his temporal responsibilities. The mission of the Stewardship Council is to motivate each individual and family to become aware of the personal and community benefits of stewardship. 14 Trustees A Parish Trustee is an active, responsible parish member who is called to serve the parish as advisor, overseer and counselor. The treasurer trustee works with the pastor in the coordination and maintenance of financial record keeping, reviews annual parish budget and signs the annual financial report to the diocese. 15 MINISTRY OF SOCIAL CONCERNS Christian Support Family & Activities Angel Fund Our goal each year is to raise $100,000 for our sister school Sacred Heart School in Jersey City. This is done through a parish-wide mailing and follow-up. Students of Sacred Heart School speak at the Masses once a year. Ideas and help are always welcome. Diane Ulrich Dianeulrich@aol.com Advent Giving Tree Project This outreach program brings Christmas to the needy of neighboring communities. Parishioners are invited to take an ornament card bearing a specific Christmas gift request from the tree in the Narthex and to bring the new wrapped gift and the ornament card back to church. The gifts are collected and distributed by the committee. Dan and Laurie Kocher DJKLJK@Verizon.net Bereavement Ministry This ministry supports people who are experiencing the pain and loss of a loved one through death. The trained facilitators of this ministry have suffered loss also and are united in their overwhelming desire to bring comfort and support to those who are grieving. We offer an informal night of support, Bereavement Night, on the first Wednesday of every month. In addition, we offer structured eight-week Bereavement Support Group in the spring, fall and winter. On each of those days one or two people go to the designated food establishments to pick up surplus bread, bagels or donuts, package them in bags or boxes, and deliver them to Eva s Kitchen in Paterson using a parish van. They usually return by 11a.m. On Tuesday and Thursday, an individual drives their own car to two supermarkets and delivers to Eva s. Joe Meighan Joenmary6@aol.com Tom Veit Teveit@gmail.com

16 Good Samaritan Ministry But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. (Luke 10:33) If you would like to be Good Samaritan to a fellow parishioner who is homebound you will have the chance to do it. Join our new ministry. There is not an established commitment. Parishioners in this ministry will have the chance to bring food and to visit an elderly person or someone who requests to be visited. Camille Munro camillemunro@gmail.com or x 216 Harrison House Meals This is a residential care facility for people with HIV/AIDS located on the grounds of Bergen County Regional Medical Center. St. Elizabeth s is committed to providing dinner for 8 people. Each volunteer prepares and delivers a meal to the house by 5 p.m. on their selected date. Visits are made to homebound parishioners and those at CHCC to provide comfort and support. Sponsors the Annual Liturgy with the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick and luncheon for parishioners and others. 17 Christian Heath Care Center Van The CHCC Van transports elderly parishioners from Christian Health Care Center to Mass on Sunday. The time commitment is one half hour before and after Mass. Michael Devaney Respect Life Committee The role of this committee is to make the Saint Elizabeth s community more aware of the Catholic Church s teaching on pro-life issues concerning abortion, mercy killing and capital punishment through various projects that support pro-life education and activities. Our Respect Life works together with the John Paul II Regional Respect Life Group that serves the Bergen County Area, and also it is a liaison with the Archdiocese of Newark. Groups of volunteers travel to Sacred Heart School in Jersey City while school is in session, to offer education enhancement to the students there. Volunteers talents are matched with classroom and office needs. If you have a background in music, art, computers, Spanish language, tutoring specific subjects or are willing to do office work, your talents will be put to use for these students. On the 4th Saturday of each month, a group of volunteers from St. Elizabeth s serves a hot lunch to the hungry with food donated by our parishioners. We set up, serve and clean! 18 BUILDING COMMUNITY Ministries, Societies & Activities Anointing Mass This special Mass is offered for all parishioners who seek physical and spiritual healing within the framework of the liturgy. Participants may choose to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. Lisa Tota x 200 Men s Sharing Men, who seek a deeper spirituality that will reflect in their personal relationships and in their workplace, are invited to this sharing group. Meetings are a mix of prayer, Scripture, sharing and reflection. Meetings are open to all men of the parish and take place on alternate Saturday mornings, 7 a.m. 9 a.m. in the St. Elizabeth Room. Joe Verdone Jv826v@optonline.net Rosary Society The Rosary Society is an active organization of women who have a special devotion to the Blessed Mother and wish to share it with others. The group meets on the second Thursday of the month at 10 a.m. in the Elizabeth Room. Excellent speakers on various topics are invited to present at the meetings. Members provide various works of service to our Church community such as: Weekly recitation of the Rosary with residents at Christian Health Care Center; circulation of the five Pilgrim Statues of Our Lady to homes throughout the parish; laundering the purificators used at Masses; sponsoring a Day of Prayer in May as well as making Rosary Beads to send to Missionaries and Catholic prison chaplains. Ronnie Gringeri Marian Devotions Recitation of the Rosary Monday thru Friday after the 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. Masses and Saturday after the 9 a.m. Mass. May Crowning Children and adults take part in this annual May event presented by the Gather the Children Ministry. A procession begins in the Narthex after a Sunday morning Mass led 18

19 by our First Communicants and ends with a presentation of flowers and crowning of the Our Lady of Fatima statue at our outdoor shrine. Check the bulletin for date and time. The meetings are a mix of sharing, prayer and discussion relating to parenting and women s role in the church. Bible study and service projects are a major part of this ministry. The team organizes, hosts and sponsors a coffee after a Sunday Mass twice year. At these gatherings new members are provided with information about the parish and offered hospitality and friendship by the team. This social event is a great way for families to meet other members of the parish community. This active group provides this and more, the meetings are a mix of social and spiritual activities, speakers, luncheon and trips. 20 Pastoral Counsel The Parish Pastoral Council is a consultative body, pastoral in nature, because it strives to discern the movement of the Holy Spirit among God's people in the parish. A Parish Pastoral Council gives its help to the pastor in fostering pastoral activity; it investigates, under the authority of the pastor, all those things which pertain to pastoral works to ponder them, and to propose practical conclusions about them. It is essential that Council meetings occur in the context of prayer and openness to the Holy Spirit, so that at all times the common good will prevail. Specifically, the Parish Pastoral Council's purpose is to enhance the process of: Pastoral planning Developing pastoral programs Improving pastoral services Evaluating the pastoral effectiveness of various programs and services. 21 YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULT BOLD Youth Ministry Mission Statement: BOLD exists to expose teens to God s love, to promote a life of service to Christ, and to provide a place for teens to enjoy each other s company. We strive to develop personal relationships with Christ that gives each teen ownership of their faith. We are seeking to build a faith sharing Catholic community in which teens and young adults can feel comfortable being themselves and can use their gifts and talents to participate responsibly in the life, mission and work of the church. We provide SPIRITUAL, SERVICE and SOCIAL opportunities. CAST (Catholic Adults Supporting Teens) Team are adults who make a special commitment to the teens and youth of the parish, to be examples and role models, to be available and present in their lives. All adults of the parish are invited to help in this ministry to teens, BOLD and BOLD Middle. PST (Peer Servant Team) - Confirmed teens of the parish that are the youth leadership team of BOLD Youth Ministry. The program offers middle school youth the opportunity for human and spiritual growth in a fun and safe environment. Our program recognizes the youth in this age range are on the edge of their teen years where they are changing physically, mentally, and emotionally. Our mission is to help parents develop boys and girls in the practice of the Catholic faith by keeping God's commandments, celebrating the sacraments, developing a prayer life and by loving God and our neighbors. 21
