1 A monthly publication of the Garden Community Church Women s Ministry Events In January, the Women s Ministry organized an Out-to-Eat Night at El Cerito Mexican Restaurant in Hesston. Sixteen women gathered together for a wonderful time of fellowship and food. Before the food arrived, Molly Goossen shared a short devotional on hospitality. The February event consisted of CHOCOLATE and LOVE. Ladies met in the church fellowship hall for a little pre Valentine celebration on February 13 th. Heart Valentines with Bible verses were set out on the tables to decorate and give to loved ones. A Chocolate fountain, with lots of dipping options, was made available for refreshments. To close out the evening, Grace Huxman read the Love Chapter, I Corinthians 13, and Shea Neufeld asked the ladies questions to ponder about true love.

2 The beginning of our new year always means that new books will be appearing on our shelves in both Libraries. This is always a welcomed sign to our weekly patrons who eagerly watch for any new additions. A recent purchase has added 20 books to the Adult Library. Twelve of these new books were in our Fiction section. Two books that are worth mentioning are... Saving Amelia by Cathy Gohlke... A gripping tale of sacrifice, loss, love and hope all against the setting of the Hitler era. The second highly recommended book is titled... Feast for Thieves by Marcus Brotherton... A gutsy, never preachy story filled with redemption undercurrents. The main character is a paratrooper in Dog Company during World War II. This book would appeal to our men readers. Other books include contemporary themes and historical fiction. Five new Biographies have been added. One that has caught our attention is a story of boundless hope in the face of the Rwandan genocide titled Frederick by Frederick Ndaaramiye and Amy Parker. A John MacArthur book has been added to the Christian Living section...right Thinking in a World Gone Wrong. A great reminder that our response to moral questions must be grounded in God's Word which offers hope and clarity. Please stop in and we can direct you to all of the new additions. In the Children's Library 6 new Teen books have been added. A favorite author, Andrew Klavin has a Mindwar Trilogy which is sure to be a hit with our teens. Seven Spring and Easter themed picture books have been added for our littles. The Children's Library is sponsoring a "Share the Love of God" activity for the month of February. A basket containing note cards are available to write a note of appreciation to anyone who needs to hear a word from you. Hand deliveries are great or you can use the church mailboxes. 3 GARDEN SENIOR NEWS On a recent Saturday morning the Garden Senior Adults met at the Hesston Senior Center for our 2017 Launch. A delicious breakfast catered by the Weaver Grocery Store started our morning activities. One of the components of our Senior Adult Ministry's purpose statement includes the arm of Service. It was decided by the planning team that the group closest and dearest to us were our own college students. Following our breakfast, the rest of the morning was spent in a service project directed towards developing a College Student/Senior Connection. Table groups were assigned specific students which they then concentrated on for the morning activities. Encouraging life words from Scripture were identified for each specific student at the respective tables. A time of prayer for the students was conducted by the individual table groups. A holy buzz was heard as prayers were lifted for these young lives! The final activity was selecting items which had been brought by the attendees and then packed in mailable boxes to send on to our students. This resulted in a flurry of activity and much creativity as the boxes were carefully and lovingly packed. We are committed to following though with monthly touch points with our students throughout the rest of this school year, We want this young group to know that although they are not in sight, they have a strong praying and caring support base back home. Hesston High Singers We had the privilege of having the Hesston High School Singers come and share with us on February 5 th. Our own Seth Hiebert was a part of the talented group.

4 How easy it is to become fixated on that which we do not have. That varies from person to person and even from life stage to life stage: marriage; children, more children, grandchildren; more money; to be more beautiful, taller, shorter, stronger, thinner; different job; different house; different circumstances; better health; for a loved one to come to faith in Christ, and the list could go on and on. That obsesses us, filling our days and nights with longing. That turns into a qualification for happiness or significance. That morphs into something vastly different from reality. That is at the root of disillusionment, envy and bitterness. That can become an idol. What is your that? Each of us has a that for which we long some are shared and some too cherished to even speak of. How are you doing in this time of waiting for that? It s not easy, is it. How often I have said, Of course, Abram and Sarai waited 25 years for their promised son they had a specific promise. I long for that. I believe that is a good thing. But I have no specific promise for that. However, God has given a promise a promise which is infinitely more precious than that for which we wait. In this beautiful little poem, Amy Carmichael addresses that for which we long. The poem is phrased as a sweet message from the Lord to us those who long for that. God knows how your heart is set on that. He knows how you walk the familiar pattern of your days tinged with longing for that. God promises to use your time of waiting as a blessing (for you and others). What you really need is to find your contentment in Him. Yes, it is true. God knows that for which you long so deeply. His desire for you is much more than that. God longs for you to be content in Him alone. He is enough. All of your waiting is worth it, if through it you get more and more of the One for whom your soul is ultimately longing. 8 Machine Shop Supports Ministries The machine shop enables production of specialized FM antennas, mechanical parts for in-house low-power shortwave transmitter production, and parts assembly for clean water projects. The machine shop at SonSet Solutions is filled with a wide variety of shop equipment. Operated and maintained by only a handful of personnel, these machines free up time for other tasks while simultaneously boosting precision, reliability and minimizing production costs. Praise God for memorable times with our children the last few months. Praise God for protection. Praise God for our local church. Pray for wisdom in work decisions. Thank you I (Tim) work now and then in the shop to fill in when there are no transmitters to fix or people for me to help fix their transmitter. Recently I was making bases for our clean water well monitors. These monitors connect to water wells any where in the world. They monitor gallons and pump motion so someone can determine how the well is doing without going there. These little monitors send this data every 24 hours through the satellites to our database. You can see this data at: Many wells are in difficult to reach or dangerous places. It is much safer to go only when there is a known problem. And it is a much wiser use of time to go to wells that do need work. Be sure to look at the many stories about these monitors on the web site. for your prayer & Financial support!

9 A Family Update We are so grateful for those who have prayed for our family through the years. Here is an update on our boys: Jeffrey and Nikki keep busy with our two wonderful grandbabies. Audrey is 2-1/2 now and Tyler is 4 months. Jeffrey is working as an aircraft mechanic for Duncan Aviation in Battle Creek, Michigan. Josh and Hannah have been in Ecuador since March Hannah is serving as a social worker in Casa Adalia. Josh is enjoying building relationships with students at the Alliance Academy. Jordan lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He works for VanLaan Concrete Construction. Uncle Jordan has fun spoiling his niece.
