1 The Rosary 14 th October, 2016 Aspire, Believe, Achieve: Together in Christ Telephone: Infants: Juniors: Weekly Prayer and Reflection 29 th Sunday in Ordinary Time Gospel: Luke 18:1-8 Jesus tells us a story about a judge and a widow who wants justice who wants what is right. Judges are supposed to be fair and honest but this isn t always the case. The prophets in the Bible were always getting angry with judges who thought more about themselves when making decisions than about the people who had been hurt by someone else s actions. If the judges didn t sort out the problems fairly, people would suffer again and again. Can you think of things that seem unfair to you? How do you feel when someone has treated you unfairly? The widow was ignored by the law but she didn t give up. She just kept nagging the judge to make things right. Eventually, just to get rid of her, he gave her what she wanted Justice. Her prayers were finally answered. Why do you think Jesus told us this story? The widow is like us we call to God in our prayers to give us what we need and want. If this bad judge eventually did the right thing, how much more will God, who is all powerful and good, do what is right? If we don t get what we pray for the first time, should we just give up? Jesus says that God hears the cries of all who call out to him day and night. God will certainly answer our prayers, even if it s not in the way that we expect. How does it make you feel, to know that God always hears you when you pray? This week we need to think about how we can treat other people fairly. God of justice and wisdom, help us to make a change when we see people hurt or treated unfairly. May we find strength to keep going, even if at first we are not heard. Amen.

2 Today we were able to see 5B s assembly which focused on the achievements of black scientists, leaders and philanthropists. 5B celebrated the contributions these people have made to our society. Thank you to all the parents who came and watched their assembly and thankyou to 5B for their very special presentation. Golden Jubilee Celebrations Many thanks to the PTA volunteers who entertained the children so wonderfully today. Everyone had a great deal of fun and excitement. Monday 17 th October: the KS2 (Junior) children are asked to please bring in a flower to lay at the Grotto of Our Lady at the front of the school. Golden Jubilee Mass: 18 th October at 2pm. Parents are cordially invited to attend this Mass led by Cardinal Vincent. As space will be limited in the church, Bob Hughes will be streaming the Mass in the Parish Hall (Pope John Centre) for anyone who is unable to get a seat in the church. Local Democracy Week Y5 Trip to Civic Centre When we arrived at school, we saw the magnificent Greek temples (in our classroom) which we had made for our homework. Then, after morning registration, we walked to the bus stop to catch a bus to Hounslow Civic Centre. When we arrived, we walked inside and climbed up the stairs and then excitedly walked into a massive room, the Council Chamber. The Council Chamber is a large circular room; the chairs were placed in a semicircular shape and the light on the ceiling looked like a pizza! In the Council Chamber we met a former mayor - Mr Gupta; Steven and Thomas. Steven told us about democracy and government in Britain. Thomas explained to us how to vote, and showed us the oldest and the youngest councillors. We stayed there for about two and a half hours and it was fun. I would love to go there again! Sophia & Milan Secondary Transfer Parents are reminded that they have to complete and submit the Pan London E-admission form on line via their local authority by 31 st October. Parents can begin completing the form now, save their details and then submit it once they are happy with their choices and the order they have put their choices in. In addition to this, parents applying to Catholic schools will also need to complete the Supplementary Information Forms for each school they nominate and return them directly to the schools, with their certificate of Catholic Practice and any other documentation the school asks for. Please check the closing date for applications with the school as these may differ from the Local Authority.

6 Osterley & Spring Grove Met Police Ward Meeting Your local police are holding a crime prevention evening this Monday 17th October at 7pm until 9pm. There is parking available at Lampton School, Lampton Avenue, Hounslow, TW3 4EP. All are welcome. You will be able to speak to experts in the fields of crime prevention. There will be people from specialist companies who can speak to you about alarms, locks, security doors and vehicle security. A talk about property marking systems will be given by Sgt. Fane, PC Scales will give a presentation on simple, effective ways you can reduce the risk of burglary. Your local police teams will be available to give advice and speak to you. Are you in neighbourhood watch? You can find out about the benefits on joining and get a discount code which you can use to buy SmartWater or Selecta DNA, both forensic marking systems proven effective in reducing the risk of burglary. Your Local Policing Team Parking All parents are asked to show due care and consideration when dropping off and collecting their children from school. This morning Mrs Paczek had to speak to several parents who thought it was ok to park on the yellow zig zag lines, block our neighbour s drives and making it very dangerous for children coming to school. We are very lucky to have the use of the church car parks. Please DO NOT COME DOWN THE GREEN, but drive down Winchester and Eton Avenue to access the church car parks. Thank you.
