3 From the Pastor s Desk Dear Parishioners, Happy Father s Day! I m hopeful that we all love our father s, but I also know that Father s Day doesn t seem to get as much attention as Mother s Day, and so I pray that we take advantage of this day to offer gratitude and love to our Father s for the role they play (or have played) in our lives! Let us thank God, the Father, for the gift of our father s and for the many ways they have blessed us. Let us thank our Father s directly, if they re still living, letting them know how grateful we are for all that they have done for us. Let us pray for our Father s, if they are deceased, remembering them with love and gratitude. Let take advantage of this day, using it not simply as a day of rest, or a day to gather, but a day to love and be grateful! On this day, our parish community is also celebrating and blessing our parishioners who have, or will be, graduating high school this year. This is an important milestone in our lives, a time of moving on to new opportunities and possibilities, a time of endings, but also beginnings and so we promise these young people our prayers and we bless them with our love as they graduate high school. Of course, as people of faith, our prayer is that they will remain close to the Lord and to His community, the Church, no matter where life takes them and for the rest of their lives! Hopefully our parish community, and their families, have given them a firm foundation of faith on which to build their lives and deepen their relationship with Christ. These young people are always welcome here at Queenship of Mary, for no matter where they end up, they will still be part of our family! And, as our parish St. Vincent de Paul Conference transitions to new leadership, let us offer them our prayers as well. The members of our conference serve those in need in our local community, certainly with their support and prayers, but also in helping them to make ends meet, or to get back on their feet, or to find the help they can t find on their own. Our conference has been a blessing to many, and the hope is that with new leadership their work will continue to grow and be a light to many. Of course, the conference is always welcoming new people to join them in their mission perhaps that s you?! And perhaps as they transition to new leadership, the time to join is now?! Note that this week I will be spending my annual retreat time. time away by myself to reflect and renew, to rest and relax! I very much look forward to this time each year, it is always a productive time for me! Know that you will be in my prayers during this time, and I ask that you pray for me as well. Unfortunately, being away at this time also means I will not be here for the last weekend of the old Mass schedule. I promise, this wasn t on purpose! Remember that our new schedule begins on July 1 st.and enjoy the last weekend of the old schedule with our visiting priests! In Christ, Msgr. Robert Stewardship is a Way of Life - Tithing is God s Plan for Giving! June 9 & 10, 2018 $ 12, June 10 & 11, 2017 $ 14, From the parish: Father s Day is a time to remember our fathers and grandfathers for all their sacrifices for our families. When we contribute our time, talent and tithe we are praising God our Father! From the pastor: Let us be grateful not only for our own father s, but most especially for the gift of the Father, the one who created us and who loves us unconditionally! And in our love and gratitude let us return to Him a portion of what He has given us! Did you know that June 21 the first day of summer in 2018 is National egiving Day? The goal is for Queenship of Mary families to put envelopes on a permanent summer vacation and make the switch to egiving. By embracing this practice, you will simplify your giving and help provide our parish with consistent support. This is especially important in the summer months, when many families may be out of town some weekends To sign up visit: electronic-giving

4 Spiritual Food THE SMALLEST OF SEEDS Today s Gospel and readings are filled with allusions to nature in the understanding of the Kingdom of God. Yet they seem more than allusions. They seem to be a way of speaking that inherently connects humanity and the environment. We are the mustard seed. We are the palm. We are the field that grows. There has been a growing movement of understanding spirituality, faith and even theology from a more complete environmental view. Francis encyclical Laudato Si reflects those ideas. So, too, does much of the work by the theologian Elizabeth Johnson ( Ask the Beasts, Creation and the Cross ). Those works help to remind us that creation is larger than we are, much larger, and that the new creation in the Kingdom of God can t be and isn t just about us. Salvation itself is inherently tied to the love of one another in full communion with the world to which we all belong. And, besides, for me, there is something utterly joyful about being the smallest of seeds. Justice Challenge Father s Day is a great celebration of the special men in our lives who have been a source of strength, encouragement, protection and guidance as well as providing, teaching, and correcting. Being a dad is complex. It isn t something one can plan out and schedule it evolves and grows as their children do. One cannot study all the right ways to be a great dad. There is something organic and ever-changing in the role of a dad. All people need someone in their life who will love them unconditionally, but many have not had that gift. Today there are children and teens in your community, parish, and school that need guidance, love, and security. Your challenge this week is to reflect on how you can be an advocate for these things where you live. Can you mentor after school or volunteer at a Boys and Girls Club? Could you offer to chaperone an event for youth or children at your parish? Could you pray each day for your eyes and heart to be open to the needs of children and youth where you live and work? You may not be a father or a dad but you have the capacity to love and make a difference. Copyright Center for Ministry Development, FashioningFaith.org. All rights reserved. A Prayer for Fathers God our Father, we give you thanks and praise for fathers young and old. We pray for young fathers, newly embracing their vocation; may they find courage and perseverance to balance work, family and faith in joy and sacrifice. We pray for our own fathers around the world whose children are lost or suffering; May they know that the God of compassion walks with them in their sorrow. We pray for men who are not fathers but still mentor and guide us with fatherly love and advice. We remember fathers, grandfathers, and great grandfathers who are no longer with us but who live forever in our memory and nourish us with their love. Amen REGISTER NOW FOR FAITH FORMATION BEGINNING ANEW IN SEPTEMBER 2018! Queenship of Mary offers faith formation for all generations through Living Faith: Whole Community Catechesis, our intergenerational faith formation program. Families come together one Sunday a month to share a light meal, along with some timely discussions. Sacramental Catechesis is offered in addition to Living Faith to fully prepare families for their milestone sacramental moments; First Reconciliation and First Eucharist around age 7. Diocesan policy and Canon Law dictate a twoyear preparation period for the reception of these Sacraments. Children should begin their faith formation when they begin First Grade, if not before. Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation takes place in 8 th or 9 th grade, building upon the relationships formed and lessons learned in grades 1 7, regular Sunday Mass attendance and an understanding of our Catholic call to live as a disciple. Please visit our parish website at to learn more about our dynamic faith formation programming or call the Office for Faith Formation at

5 MAKE CHURCH MATTER Service needs to be integrated into the mainstream life of the parish, rooted in prayer, and flowing from the Eucharist as an essential response to what we have received. - Rebuilt Ensure that prayer and a sense of community are integral to everything that we do by: Continuing to ensure that the message is tied into all gatherings during the week and that faith sharing is fostered among our parishioners. Summer is almost upon us. This is the time of year when activities wind down, and some of our ministries take a much-needed break. But there is something that will be missed over the summer months. At the start of ministry gatherings during the year, members join together to pray the Weekly Prayer. The Gospel for that week is read, along with the message from the homily. Two or three related questions follow, providing an opportunity for the group to share faith together. This faith sharing has led to new insights for many. These discussions provide a way for us, not only to share, but to strengthen our faith. Here is what members of our Bible Study group have to say about the Weekly Prayer: When I pray the Weekly Prayer, I feel connected to the whole parish even when I am away. It draws me into a deeper faith link with my parish family. - Bobbie S. The Weekly Prayer causes me to focus on showing my faith to the world that I encounter every day. It is not just prayer and Bible Study, but application to life s big and little events. Mary Ann P. I find the Weekly Prayer very valuable. I am always humbled by listening to others responses, and how the Holy Spirit is working in their lives. Most often this happens when a reading is very familiar to me and I jump to my usual conclusions. Fresh eyes and ears awaken my faith each time and draw me closer to God. - Maureen J. The Weekly Prayer makes me think about the gifts the Lord has given me, and how I must use them to be a better part of the Body of Christ. Christ made us in his image and likeness, and through using my gifts, I can live more fully as part of His Body. - Tara C. The Weekly Prayer sparks good discussion with different points of view. At Bible Study, I ve gotten to talk with people who I don t know, which enhances my sense of community. --Jeanette W. The Weekly Prayer sometimes makes quite clear the things I don t do or think about. And that s the first step in changing my behavior and striving to do better. - Stein C. The Weekly Prayer makes me feel better as a person. It helps me to share my faith with others. The feeling is so rewarding! Debbie U. The Weekly Prayer is easily accessed on the parish website at Let it enhance your summer holidays by helping you reflect on God s Word, and put it into action. Pray it together with family and friends, and let the Holy Spirit bless you with insight! SVDP CONFERENCE JUNE THANK YOU GATHERING On Tuesday, June 19 th at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall we will be celebrating our ministry. We will share a spiritual reflection followed by fun, food (adult beverages included!) and fellowship. At this meeting we honor all of our members who give selflessly of their time to this ministry and we also thank the spouses and significant others who support their work in countless ways. Come and join us for this celebration!
