MARCH 2017 These words so beautifully describe the results of resurrection power in our lives. We, the revitalized, restored, renewed people of God at Bethany are engaging in some common "Lenten disciplines." We prayerfully seek that God, through us, bring to our community His revitalizing, restoring and renewing work. We will also, offer sacrifices from our material blessings above and beyond our regular giving that our campus might experience revitalization, restoration and renewal. Throughout the month of March our Sunday morning worship services will focus on God's blessings and our response; leading us to our Palm Sunday ONE SERVICE commitment celebration at 10:00am on the field at Bethany. "Worthy is the Lamb, whose death makes me His own, the Lamb is reigning on His throne." "Worthy" - deserving of our adoration, as well as our thanks, praise and obedience is the Lord! "The Lamb" - pure, holy and unblemished is the Lord! "Whose death" - offered to God in place of impure, unholy and blemished folk like us. Through Him God's wrath towards sin is appeased. "Makes me His own" - we've been bought with a price, we are no longer our own, by the work of Jesus' through faith in the same we have been acquitted, declared innocent and counted as righteous before God. "Reigning on His throne" - the sacrificed Lamb is Risen and now Rules all things...reigning on the throne of heaven, the throne of congregational altars and the thrones of Christian hearts. "The Lamb" is our Midweek Lenten Worship theme. Starting March 1st, Ash Wednesday at 9:00AM (school chapel) 4:00PM and 7:00PM and continuing each Wednesday at 7:00PM through out the season of Lent. Our entire Lenten worship schedule is printed on the next page.

6 PAGE 6 CHIMES VOLUME 11, ISSUE 7 Family Ministry Moment Pr. Seth Moorman-Pastor of Family Life & Youth, ext. 13 smoorman@bethanylutheran.org The month of March sees the beginning of our annual Lenten journey to the cross and the open tomb. For centuries in the church it has been a time of introspection and a focus on what Jesus as the Lamb of God did to take away the sin of the world. Often times we reflect upon our own sinfulness and with great reverence witness once again the amazing work of Jesus on the cross. As this season begins, consider doing the following devotion with your family. It was written by Rev. Wayne Palmer a few years ago and published in a book of Lenten Devotions from the Lutheran Hour Ministries called Light Shines in the Darkness. Read John 6:66-71 In sadness Jesus watched the crowds turn and walk away. Now He turns to His twelve chosen disciples and asks if they want to leave too. The Lord won't force them to stay at His side; He won't force you and me to stay either. Peter answers, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that You are the Holy One of God." The Holy Spirit led Peter to this great confession. But Jesus knew Peter wasn't speaking for every one of the disciples. He knew all too well that one of them had turned away, even though he was still standing by Jesus' side. None of the other disciples was aware, but Judas had secretly rejected Jesus' Kingdom of light and allied himself with the prince of darkness. The darkness had so deceived Judas he thought Jesus would never know what was in his heart. Judas' darkness is in each of us too and can deceive us as thoroughly as it deceived him. On the outside we can be active in our churches. Yet deep in our hearts we may have grown cold to Jesus. It's so easy to go through the motions of faith, while our hearts turn away to the darkness like Judas. Jesus calls us to stop and examine the depths of our soul. Are we sincere in our faith, or are we servants of darkness going through the motions? It's a matter of life and death and heaven and hell for us just as it was for Judas. THE PRAYER: Holy Spirit, remove all that is false and impure from my heart, and fill me with the fire of faith in Jesus Christ my Savior. In Jesus' Name. Amen. Bethany s 9th Annual Easter Egg Hunt This annual event will by hopping on Saturday, April 8, The festivities will begin at 10:00AM with crafts, a short Easter message, three age appropriate hunts (preschool to 4th grade), snacks, and prizes! Start thinking of which little bunny you would like to invite! Ways we would like YOUR help in the Easter Egg Hunt this year: 1. Pray for the kids and parents attending, that the seeds of faith will be planted and watered during this event. 2. Bake some delicious snacks for those attending. 3. Volunteer to help stuff the children s goodie bags. 4. Help the day of the event: hide the Easter eggs, help set up tables, decorate the gym and hunt locations, help families with the crafts, arrange the refreshments, and watch the excitement on the little ones faces. Please prayerfully consider how you can lend a hand and sign up at the Connections Table on Sunday morning, see a member of the Board of Evangelism, or contact Sarah O Conner by leaving a message with the church office.
