The Second Sunday after Pentecost The Holy Eucharist THE LITURGY OF THE WORD Prelude Fantasia Kuchaf Processional Hymn Christ, whose glory fills the skies Hymnal 7 Blessed be God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit And blessed be his kingdom, now and forever. Amen. Collect for Purity (in unison) Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your Holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Summary of the Law Jesus said: you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 22:37-40 Kyrie Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. Song of Praise Immortal, Invisible Arr. Fernando Ortega; CCLI:

Verse 2: Verse 3: Verse 4: Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light, Nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might; Thy justice like mountains high soaring above, Thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love. To all life Thou givest, to both great and small; In all life Thou livest, the true life of all; We blossom and flourish as leaves on a tree, And wither and perish but nought changeth Thee Great Father of Glory, pure Father of Light Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight; All praise we would render, O help us to see: Tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Let us pray. Collect O God, the protector of all those who trust in you, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy: Increase and multiply in us your mercy, that, with you as our ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal that we lose not the things eternal; grant this, heavenly Father, for the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. First Reading (all be seated) Deuteronomy 5:6-21 (Pew Bible p. 142) The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. The Gradual (all remain seated) Psalm 116:12-13, 15-16, Response: (Cantor sings once, then all sing) Verses: (Cantor sings Verse, then all sing Response) How shall I make a return to the LORD For all the good he has done for me? The cup of salvation I will take up, And I will call upon the name of the LORD. (Response)

Precious in the eyes of the LORD Is the death of his faithful ones. I am your servant, the song of your handmaid; You have loosed my bonds. (Response) To you will I offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving, And I will call upon the name of the LORD. My vows to the LORD I will pay In the presence of all his people. (Response) Second Reading 2 Corinthians 4:1-12 (Pew Bible p. 939) The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Sequence (all stand) Blessed Jesus, at thy word (stanzas 1-2) Hymnal 440 Deacon: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark. Glory to you, Lord Christ. Holy Gospel Mark 2:23-28 (Pew Bible p. 814) Deacon: The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ. Sequence Blessed Jesus, at thy word (stanza 3) Hymnal 440 Sermon (all be seated) Nicene Creed (all stand and recite in unison) We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father [and the Son], who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. Prayers of the People (all kneel) The Celebrant says: Let us pray for the Church and for the world, saying, Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer. For the peace of the whole world, and for the well-being and unity of the people of God, let us pray to the Lord. Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer. For our Archbishops, Justin and Foley, our Bishop, Keith, and for our clergy, staff and vestry, and for all the clergy and people of our diocese and congregation, let us pray to the Lord. Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer. For all those who proclaim the Gospel at home and abroad; and for all who teach and disciple others, let us pray to the Lord. Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer. For our brothers and sisters in Christ who are persecuted for their faith, let us pray to the Lord. Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.

For our nation, for those in authority and for all in public service especially Donald, our President, the members of Congress and our judges, and the members of our military serving both here and abroad, let us pray to the Lord. Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer. For all those who are in trouble, sorrow, need, sickness, or any other adversity, let us pray to the Lord. Please add your own petitions Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer. For all the blessings of this life let us thank the Lord. Please add your own thanksgivings Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer. For all those who departed this life in the certain hope of the resurrection, in thanksgiving let us pray to the Lord. Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer. The Celebrant concludes with the following prayer: Heavenly Father, grant these our prayers for Jesus Christ s sake, our only Mediator and Advocate, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen. Confession Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. Absolution Peace (all stand) The Peace of the Lord be always with you. And with your spirit. Announcements (all be seated)

THE HOLY COMMUNION Offertory Lord, Keep Us Steadfast In Thy Word Leupold Presentation Hymn (all stand) Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below; Praise him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. Old One Hundredth Sursum Corda The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give him thanks and praise. It is right, our duty and our joy, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. Through Jesus Christ our Lord; who on the first day of the week overcame death and the grave, and by his glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name. Sanctus et Benedictus Hymnal S128

The Prayer of Consecration (all kneel) Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and when we had sinned against you and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent your only Son into the world for our salvation. By the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary he became flesh and dwelt among us. In obedience to your will, he stretched out his arms upon the cross and offered himself once for all, that by his suffering and death we might be saved. By his resurrection he broke the bonds of death, trampling Hell and Satan under his feet. As our great high priest, he ascended to your right hand in glory, that we might come with confidence before the throne of grace. On the night that he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it,* and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take, eat; this is my Body which is given for you: Do this in remembrance of me. Likewise, after supper, Jesus took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, Drink this, all of you; for this is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you, and for many, for the forgiveness of sins: Whenever you drink it, do this in remembrance of me. Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, and we offer you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Word and Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son Jesus Christ. Sanctify us also, that we may worthily receive this holy sacrament, and be made one body with him, so that he may dwell in us and we in him. And bring us with all your saints into the fullness of your heavenly kingdom, where we shall see our Lord face to face. All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ: By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and forever. Amen.

The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. The Fraction Alleluia. Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia. Prayer of Humble Access (in unison) We do not presume to come to this, your table, O merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in your abundant and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under your table. But you are the same Lord, who always delights in showing mercy. Grant us, therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of your dear Son Jesus Christ and to drink his blood, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by his body, and our souls washed through his most precious blood, and that we may evermore dwell in him, and he in us. Amen. Fraction Anthem Hymnal S171

Communion All baptized Christians who profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are welcome to receive Holy Communion in this church. All who do not wish to receive are still welcome to come forward to the altar rail. You may cross your arms across your chest as an indication you do not wish to receive, and a prayer of blessing will be offered for you instead. Gluten-free wafers are available. If you would like to receive a gluten-free wafer, simply ask the priest when he comes to you at the communion rail. Additional prayer is offered by our Altarside Prayer Team on either side of the altar, if you are in need of specific prayer, they would be happy to pray with you after you have received communion. And now Father, send us out into the world to do the work you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and forever. Amen. The Blessing The peace of God, which passes all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord; and the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be upon you and remain with you for ever. Amen. Recessional Hymn Spread, O spread, thou mighty word Hymnal 530 Dismissal Let us go forth into the world, rejoicing in the power of the Spirit. Thanks be to God. Share Iftar dinner with your Muslim neighbors: Saturday, June 9 Ramadan is the month-long season of fasting (no food or water, sunrise to sunset) for Muslims around the world, including the thousands of Muslims here in Phoenix. Several times that month, Muslim congregations will gather in a mosque to break their fast together; this meal is called Iftar. Ramadan is happening now, and our Muslim neighbors at the Islamic Center of the Northeast Valley (Scottsdale) have invited us to break the fast with them on Sat., June 9, at 7:00 p.m. We will observe their evening prayers, then share a delicious meal. Please plan to receive this hospitality and learn about and love your fellow image bearers and neighbors face-to-face. If you re interested, let me know at cschutte@christchurchphoenix.org by Wednesday, June 6, in order to let them how many are coming. Summer Evening Prayer Parishioner, Bree Snow, will be leading summer Evening Prayer in the Sanctuary on Wednesday nights at 5:30 p.m. The prayer service will last approximately 30 minutes. All are welcome to join in this rich Anglican tradition. If you have questions or would like to participate in the service, please contact Bree at bree.snow@outlook.com. Summer Offertories If you are musically inclined, vocally or instrumentally, and interested in blessing the congregation with your talent, please or call Matt Flora to set up a time to talk through offering your time and talents for CCA summer services.
