4 Nicene Creed (all stand and recite in unison) We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. 5 Confession Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. Absolution The Comfortable Words The Celebrant may then say one or more of the following sentences, first saying: Hear the Word of God to all who truly turn to him. Through Jesus Christ our Lord; who on the first day of the week overcame death and the grave, and by his glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. Sanctus et Benedictus Hymnal S114 The Prayer of Consecration (all kneel) Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and when we had sinned against you and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent your only Son into the world for our salvation. By the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary he became flesh and dwelt among us. In obedience to your will, he stretched out his arms upon the cross and offered himself once for all, that by his suffering and death we might be saved. We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, and we offer you these gifts. Sanctify us also, that we may worthily receive this holy sacrament, and be made one body with him, so that he may dwell in us and we in him. And bring us with all your saints into the fullness of your heavenly kingdom, where we shall see our Lord face to face. The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. The Fraction Alleluia. Christ our Passover Lamb has been sacrificed once for all upon the cross. Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia. Prayer of Humble Access (in unison) We do not presume to come to this, your table, O merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in your abundant and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under your table. But you are the same Lord, who always delights in showing mercy. Grant us, therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of your dear Son Jesus Christ and to drink his blood, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by his body, and our souls washed through his most precious blood, and that we may evermore dwell in him, and he in us. Amen.

8 Fraction Anthem Agnus Dei Hymnal S159 Communion All baptized Christians who profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are welcome to receive Holy Communion in this church. All who do not wish to receive are still welcome to come forward to the altar rail. You may cross your arms across your chest as an indication you do not wish to receive, and a prayer of blessing will be offered for you instead. Gluten-free wafers are available. If you would like to receive a gluten-free wafer, simply ask the priest when he comes to you at the communion rail. Additional prayer is offered by our Altarside Prayer Team on either side of the altar, if you are in need of specific prayer, they would be happy to pray with you after you have received communion.

11 ANNOUNCEMENTS Adult Education Please join us in the Parish Hall to hear an update from our Rector Search Committee as they share information on the work that is being done and offer time for questions about the process. Next Sunday we will begin a new series of Adult Education classes with two different offerings each week. Deacon Matt Rucker will lead an 11 week bible study on the Epistles of John in the Parish Hall. Parishioner Kathy Maitha will lead a six week study on The Challenge of Christ s Call in Room 6; after that we will begin a five week parenting series. Brief descriptions can be found below: The Epistles of John Not long after the life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ, communities of believers began to grow out of the fertile soil of the ancient Mediterranean. One of these communities was the recipient of several pastoral letters from John, now known as 1, 2, and 3 John. Matt Rucker will explore these important letters, which flesh out what it means to live life with a God who is Love. The Challenge of Christ s Call I am Christ s beloved and that fact defines my identity in a wonderful way. But that identity can raise challenging, uncomfortable questions about how I relate to my world, especially to those unlike me. This study is an exploration of the magnitude of Christ s embrace through the cross and its implications for each of us. Today s Prelude and Postlude: Perhaps the best known of Herbert Howells Organ works, Master Tallis s Testament was written in The work was influenced by Ralph Vaughan Williams Fantasia on a theme of Thomas Tallis (Howells was in attendance at the premiere of that work in 1910). Thomas Tallis is widely considered the father of English choral music, and was one of the first to provide settings to the the English service, including settings of the preces and responses. This tribute to the beginnings of modern liturgical choral music feels fitting on the first Sunday of our choir s season. The postlude this morning is the second of Goemanne s four improvisations on the Ite Missa Est. I will play third improvisation for the postlude next week. Ite Missa Est is proclaimed at the end of the Mass of the Roman Rite and the Lutheran Divine Service, and is commonly translated as meaning Go, you are sent. The people then respond with the Deo Gatias, or Thanks be to God. These improvisations are designed to extend in terms of music the repetition of the thought content of the Deo Gratias response. Parents Night Out Parents Night Out is on Friday, September 14, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. This is a free event but donations toward the cost of materials and food are welcomed. 12 CCA Artist s Guild The CCA Artist's Guild aims to continue the conversations about art and faith/theology ignited by painter Bruce Herman's visit to CCA earlier this year. Artists of all persuasions (painters, illustrators, photographers, musicians, composers, poets, writers, etc) who feel they would benefit from sharing their work and thought with others in the Body are encouraged to join. Our next meeting will be Saturday, September 15, from 9:00 a.m. - noon in the Parish Hall. The reading is TBA. Youth Confirmation Classes These eight classes give teens a time for serious study and reflection on their faith as Christians in the Anglican tradition in preparation for confirmation. Every teen will be paired up with a CCA mentor to meet with throughout the year. Matt Rucker and John Laffoon will co-teach the sessions. A newcomer is someone who has been with us for one week or two years, who has not already been to a newcomer gathering. Parish Retreat - October 5-7 Registration is open for our Parish Retreat, and will run through September 23. Fr. Jerry and Stacy Kramer will be speaking and sharing with us about discipleship and the theme will be: "Singing off-key in the Jesus Choir." Jerry is an ACNA priest, but after his Louisiana church was destroyed in 2005 Katrina Hurricane he became dean of the Anglican Cathedral in Zanzibar, left there to help start three orphanages (Tanzania and Kenya) and is working now with refugee children and families in the Middle East through an organization called Love for the Least (lovefortheleast.org).
