Christ the King The Holy Eucharist THE LITURGY OF THE WORD Prelude Praise to the Lord, The Almighty Bender Processional Hymn Jesus shall reign where er the sun Hymnal 544 Blessed be God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit And blessed be his kingdom, now and forever. Amen. Collect for Purity (in unison) Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your Holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Summary of the Law Hear what our Lord Jesus Christ says: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 22:37-40 Kyrie Gloria Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. Rutter

The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Let us pray. Collect Almighty and everlasting God, whose will it is to restore all things in your well-beloved Son, the King of kings and Lord of lords: Mercifully grant that the peoples of the earth, divided and enslaved by sin, may be freed and brought together under his most gracious rule; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. First Reading (all be seated) Daniel 7:9-14 (Pew Bible p. 724) Reader: The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. The Gradual (all remain seated) Psalm 93 Dominus regnavit 1 The Lord is King; he has put on splendid apparel; * the Lord has put on his apparel and girded himself with strength.

2 He has made the whole world so sure * that it cannot be moved; 3 Ever since the world began, your throne has been established; * you are from everlasting. 4 The waters have lifted up, O Lord, the waters have lifted up their voice; * the waters have lifted up their pounding waves. 5 Mightier than the sound of many waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea, * mightier is the Lord who dwells on high. 6 Your testimonies are very sure, * and holiness adorns your house, O Lord, for ever and for evermore. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: world without end. Amen. Second Reading Revelation 1:1-8 (Pew Bible p. 994) Reader: The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Sequence (all stand) My song is love unknown (stanzas 1-3) Hymnal 458 Deacon: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Saint John. Glory to you, Lord Christ. Holy Gospel John 18:33-37 (Pew Bible p. 881) Deacon: The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ. Sequence My song is love unknown (stanzas 4-5) Hymnal 458 Sermon (all be seated) Nicene Creed (all stand and recite in unison) We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father [and the Son], who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. Prayers of the People (all kneel) The Deacon says: Let us pray for the Church and for the world, saying, Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer. Please offer your prayers this morning, either out loud or silently. The Deacon concludes with the following prayer: Heavenly Father, grant these our prayers for Jesus Christ s sake, our only Mediator and Advocate, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.

Confession Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. Absolution The Celebrant says: Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who in his great mercy has promised forgiveness of sins to all those who sincerely repent and with true faith turn to him, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The Comfortable Words The Celebrant may then say one or more of the following sentences, first saying: Hear the Word of God to all who truly turn to him. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28 God so loved the world, that he gave his only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. 1 Timothy 1:15 If anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. 1 John 2:1-2 Peace (all stand) The Peace of the Lord be always with you. And with your spirit. Announcements (all be seated) THE HOLY COMMUNION Offertory Ride on King Jesus Parker/Shaw

Presentation Hymn (all stand) Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below; Praise him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. Old One Hundredth All things come from you, O Lord. And of your own have we given you. Sursum Corda The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give him thanks and praise. It is right, our duty and our joy, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. For you anointed your only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to be prophet, priest, and king; making your whole creation subject to his rule, that he may present it to you, Heavenly Father, in beauty, truth, and love. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name. Sanctus et Benedictus Hymnal S114

The Prayer of Consecration (all kneel) Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and when we had sinned against you and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent your only Son into the world for our salvation. By the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary he became flesh and dwelt among us. In obedience to your will, he stretched out his arms upon the cross and offered himself once for all, that by his suffering and death we might be saved. By his resurrection he broke the bonds of death, trampling Hell and Satan under his feet. As our great high priest, he ascended to your right hand in glory, that we might come with confidence before the throne of grace. On the night that he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it,* and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take, eat; this is my Body which is given for you: Do this in remembrance of me. Likewise, after supper, Jesus took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, Drink this, all of you; for this is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you, and for many, for the forgiveness of sins: Whenever you drink it, do this in remembrance of me. Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, and we offer you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Word and Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son Jesus Christ. Sanctify us also, that we may worthily receive this holy sacrament, and be made one body with him, so that he may dwell in us and we in him. And bring us with all your saints into the fullness of your heavenly kingdom, where we shall see our Lord face to face. All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ: By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and forever. Amen. The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Fraction Alleluia. Christ our Passover Lamb has been sacrificed, once for all upon the cross. Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia. Prayer of Humble Access (in unison) We do not presume to come to this, your table, O merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in your abundant and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under your table. But you are the same Lord, who always delights in showing mercy. Grant us, therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of your dear Son Jesus Christ and to drink his blood, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by his body, and our souls washed through his most precious blood, and that we may evermore dwell in him, and he in us. Amen. Fraction Anthem Agnus Dei Hymnal S159

Communion All baptized Christians who profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are welcome to receive Holy Communion in this church. All who do not wish to receive are still welcome to come forward to the altar rail. You may cross your arms across your chest as an indication you do not wish to receive, and a prayer of blessing will be offered for you instead. Gluten-free wafers are available. If you would like to receive a gluten-free wafer, simply ask the priest when he comes to you at the communion rail. Additional prayer is offered by our Altarside Prayer Team on either side of the altar, if you are in need of specific prayer, they would be happy to pray with you after you have received communion. Communion Music Wait for the Lord Taize I come with joy to meet my Lord Hymnal 304 This is the hour of banquet and song Hymnal 317 Let thy Blood in mercy poured Hymnal 313 Post Communion Prayer (in unison) Heavenly Father, we thank you for feeding us with the spiritual food of the most precious body and blood of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ: and for assuring us in these holy mysteries that we are living members of the body of your Son, and heirs of your eternal Kingdom. And now Father, send us out into the world to do the work you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and forever. Amen. Prayer for our Search Team (in unison) Good and gracious God, thank you for blessing our church in every way imaginable. As we prepare for our future, we are confident of your goodness and care, and we humbly ask you to open our hearts and minds so that we may listen well for your guidance. Help us to discern Your will, and to be guided to select the person you already have in mind to be our new Rector. May we love each other and You more deeply as we make this journey together. This we pray in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The Blessing The peace of God, which passes all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord; and the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be upon you and remain with you for ever. Amen. Recessional Hymn At the name of Jesus Hymnal 435

Beginning next Sunday, December 2, we will return to a single Adult Education offering for Advent led by Dr. Tim Smith: Christmas in Isaiah! Isaiah s ancient prophecy has been called the Fifth Gospel as it is so clearly foretells the life and mission of Messiah Jesus. St. Augustine said of this book written centuries before Christ s Advent, Methinks Isaiah writes this not as a prophecy but as a Gospel. In this Advent series we will reflect on some of Isaiah s prophecies about Jesus birth. Here are words that inspired Handel s great oratorio Messiah and inspire us today! Flowers at the Altar The flowers at the altar today are given to the glory of God and in thanksgiving and celebration for the 63rd wedding anniversary of George and Mary Ellen VanDeWyngaerde. Turkey Drive Thank You Many thanks to all who participated in our annual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive last Sunday. We collected 93 turkeys that were delivered to families by volunteers from the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Along with the turkeys went a message of God s love and Christ s gift of salvation to the world. Your support for this program is very much appreciated. Advent Devotionals We Have Seen His Glory! a collection of daily reflections for Advent 2018 by Dr. Tim Smith, is available in the Narthex and the Parish Hall. Wednesday Bible Study The Wednesday Bible study at Christ Church Anglican will start up again the week after Thanksgiving, November 28, 1:30-2:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Fr. Chuck will lead us through a study of the Gospel of John every Wednesday until we finish, or until Jesus returns! As the last of the gospels written, John provides the aerial view of the message and meaning of Jesus Christ. All are welcome! One-Day Confirmation Class Fr. Chuck will lead a one-day confirmation class in the Parish Hall on Saturday, December 8, 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend the class; attendance does not mean you must choose to be confirmed or to officially join the church. However, confirmation is a requirement for official membership to CCA, and this class qualifies as the membership class. To attend, please RSVP to Cheryl at ctimmerman@christchurchphoenix.org. If you will need childcare, please let us know by November 29. The next opportunity to be confirmed at CCA will be Sunday, December 23, when Bp. Keith will be with us. Rector Search Committee Update Thank you to all those who have already completed the parish survey we are eager to read the results.
