2 Young Teen (Junior High) Visuals Instruction Sheet Using the visual materials Visuals assist the teacher in presenting the lesson and aid the student in the learning process. The visuals consist of a quarterly theme poster that presents the subject of the quarter, three unit posters that remind students of each unit s theme, thirteen lesson posters and twenty-six photomasters that may be used as overhead transparencies or copied and handed out to the students. Unit posters should be posted at the beginning of a unit and remain up throughout the quarter with the weekly lesson posters that belong to each lesson. The teaching posters may be used separately as teaching aids. UNIT POSTERS Before beginning a unit of study, place these posters in a prominent place on the classroom wall. Allow enough room to put up the lesson posters that relate to each lesson in the unit. UNIT 1 Unit 1 Poster focuses on prominent world religions. UNIT 2 Unit 2 Poster deals with cults and their ungodly beliefs. It gives a warning to young teens today. UNIT 3 Unit 3 Poster will focus on false religious practices or organizations that claim to be of a Christian nature. LESSON POSTERS AND VISUALS Lesson posters should be used at the appropriate time in the lessons each week. LESSON 1 Lesson 1 Poster introduces The True and Living God and poses the question What Do You Believe About God? Hand out copies of Photomaster 1-1. It lists some names or titles of God found in Scripture. Read the five Bible passages and have students tell in their own words what characteristics of God the passages describe. Each student should receive a copy of Photomaster 1-2. Students will follow the instructions on the photomaster and will list some of the things archaeologists of the future might find in the ruins of their houses. What would these articles tell future generations about their God? LESSON 2 Lesson 2 Poster reminds students that the Bible calls the atheist a fool. Use the poster to introduce the material found in the Lesson Exposition and in the student leaflet. Hand out copies of Photomaster 2-1. Students are to check the headlines they think can be believed. Hand out copies of Photomaster 2-2 and have students check three reasons why some teenagers who profess to be Christians do not take their belief in God seriously. LESSON 3 Lesson 3 Poster compares Buddhism with Christianity. The teachings of Buddhism ramble and point only to a mystical place called nirvana. Christianity points to the eternal God. Make one copy of Photomaster 3-1 and use it according to the instructions in the Lesson Strategy. Hand out copies of Photomaster 3-2 to help students understand the words in the Vocabulary Builder.

3 LESSON 4 Lesson 4 Poster introduces students to the religion of Judaism. Hand out copies of Photomaster 4-1, go over the words in the Vocabulary Builder and then have students complete the activity. Hand out copies of Photomaster 4-2 and have students list as many similarities between Judaism and Christianity as they can. LESSON 5 Lesson 5 Poster introduces the study of Hinduism by showing the Hindu trinity. Hand out copies of Photomaster 5-1. This handout will help students understand some Hindu expressions by giving detailed definitions of the words in the Vocabulary Builder. Hand out copies of Photomaster 5-2. There is information on this handout about TM (Transcendental Meditation), a popular teaching that some are unaware comes from Hinduism. LESSON 6 Lesson 6 Poster contrasts the Five Pillars upon which Islam is built with Christianity s Rock. Hand out copies of Photomaster 6-1. After reading the two passages of Scripture, students should write out what they learned from each verse. Hand out copies of Photomaster 6-2. Have students follow the instructions concerning the activity. LESSON 7 Lesson 7 Poster introduces a lesson about animism, an ancient pagan practice. Hand out copies of Photomaster 7-1 or use it as a transparency. Have students list some actions and practices of human beings that are apparent attempts to fill the emptiness of a soul without God. Hand out copies of Photomaster 7-2. Have students read the story and list the animistic acts committed or mentioned. LESSON 8 Lesson 8 Poster portrays the dangers of the New Age movement. Hand out copies of Photomaster 8-1 and have students complete the exercise. Photomaster 8-2 asks students to list how the passages teach them to withstand the devil. LESSON 9 Lesson 9 Poster proclaims the theme of humanism to be Self on a Pedestal. Copy Photomaster 9-1 and use it as a flash card according to the instructions in the Lesson Strategy. Hand out copies of Photomaster 9-2 and have students place a mark indicating whether they agree or disagree with the statements. LESSON 10 Lesson 10 Poster proclaims that there is nothing cute and sweet about astrology. Begin the class by handing out copies of Photomaster There are four numbers missing from the list that are necessary for the students to solve the equations. An explanation about the exercise is in the Lesson Strategy. Hand out copies of Photomaster Have students write letters to a friend telling him what they know about astrology. Explain also why Christians should have nothing to do with astrology in any form. LESSON 11 Lesson 11 Poster pictures the Mormon temple in Salt Lake City, Utah, as the temple of deception. Hand out copies of Photomaster 11-1 which is a map of the important events in Mormonism s history from its beginning in New York state to the establishing of its headquarters in Salt Lake City. Hand out copies of Photomaster This handout is a true or false quiz about Mormonism. Use it as a review of the lesson. LESSON 12 Lesson 12 Poster describes the Jehovah s Witnesses as Mind Snatchers. Hand out copies of Photomaster 12-1 which lists thirteen reasons for not being a Jehovah s Witness. Hand out copies of Photomaster 12-2 which traces the history of the heretical religious group known as the Jehovah s Witnesses. LESSON 13 Lesson 13 Poster shows that with Catholicism it is Ritual vs Relationship. Hand out copies of Photomaster 13-1 which is a list of Catholic terms that will help students converse more intelligently with Catholic friends. Hand out copies of Photomaster Students can see that true New Testament churches may be identified in every age by their doctrines which, unlike other organizations, have never changed.

God has many names or titles because God has many character traits. Given below are a few New Testament names of God and the Scriptures where they are found. But how different from an atheist is the person who professes to be a Christian but does not take his belief in God seriously? In the list below, check three reasons why some teenagers who profess to be Christians do not take their belief in God seriously. Things in the real world keep me too busy to worry about God. God s laws are too difficult to live by. God does not seem to want me to have fun. God s way is boring. God does not communicate clearly.
