Faith STATEMENTS Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota, FL
Faith Statements 2018 Matthew Arguello God has a plan for me. I learn about this plan from scripture in the Bible and participation in worship and youth group. In life I find God in my family and friends. Like my family and friends, I know God watches over me. I pray to God asking Him to help myself and others to get along as He intends for us to do. Thanks to this, I know that God is our Creator. He created the universe and you and me. He sent His Son, Jesus, to be our Savior. Learning that Jesus is our Messiah makes me want to learn more about Him and His teachings. I shall worship Him all of my life and beyond. James Carrion I believe that God started everything that there is in and out of our world. I believe He is loving and caring and has a plan for every single one of us. I believe that He guides us through our day and takes care of us equally. I believe that there is nothing that anyone does without God having a meaning for it. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God. I believe He was sent to earth to teach us about God and give us a fresh slate and clear our sins. I believe that Jesus taught us a lot of the things we know about God. I believe that the Holy Spirit is God s presence inside of us. It helps God help us to make the decisions that God wants us to make. I believe that the Holy Spirit guides us on the path of God. Being a follower of Jesus to me, means more than just believing He is the Son of God. I think that being a follower of Jesus also means to live by His example that He set years ago. To not sin and to follow God. I believe that the Bible is a tool that was given to us to use for good. I believe that not just one person wrote it and but that many people. I think of the Bible as a handbook for life and how we should live it. I want to become a member of this church, because it will better help me with my connection with God. I feel that when I am at home or doing something, I am not constantly thinking about God. When I am in church, it reminds me of His presence from things like the cross in the Chapel to the songs that we sing. I also want to be a member this church because it is like a family to me. Everyone believes what I believe to some extent and they embrace me and my opinions about God. This is what I feel is important in my faith and why I want to be confirmed. 2
Grant Collins I believe that God is the ruler of the universe who is loving and forgiving. He gave humanity many things, but the greatest gift of all was his son, Jesus, who he sent down to the earth to die so that we could live. Jesus is like God in that he is forgiving and loving, and he performed many miracles to help people who needed assistance. Jesus wanted mankind to always forgive one another when one of us has done something wrong and always love one another even if we don t want to. Jesus exemplified this when he forgave Peter for betraying him and saying that he did not know him when he was arrested. I believe that the Holy Spirit is God s presence in the universe, and there is no place that does not contain it. The Holy Spirit gives humans a connection with God and Jesus throughout our lives. The Bible serves as a way for people to learn how God wants them to live their lives and learn more about the love that both God and Jesus have for us. This is extremely important because without the Bible, people may not know the stories of God and Jesus and may lose faith in them. The church is a group of Christians whose mission is to live life based on the Bible and Jesus s teachings when he was here on Earth. I want to be a part of the church because it would allow me to have a place where I can discuss Christianity without worry of feeling judged. To be a follower of Jesus, one must learn to love others, always be kind, and forgive without hesitation. This is what I want to achieve when I become a member of the church, as I think it would better me as a person. God has given me the gifts of loving, kind family members and friends, and I believe that God intends for me to help others using the gifts that I have been given. Jacob Dreels I believe in a higher power than us. I believe that our Father is perfect and sent His one and only Son down because He loves us so much. I believe in a God that has a plan for each and every one of us. I believe the mission of the church is to spread the gospel and bring others into Christianity. I believe Jesus died for every person s sins. Being a Christian means following Jesus no matter what. By becoming a member of the church I can deliver the message of God to others with mission trips and volunteering. I want to get confirmed because I want to be a member of the church and officially say that I am one of God s children. 3
Rebecca Gardner I believe in God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. I believe that God is the Father and maker of Heaven and Earth. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God, that laid down His life so that He could save us all. I believe that the Holy Spirit is God working through everyone, including me. The mission of Church of the Palms is to love God and to love neighbor. I believe this is an excellent mission because it brings out what being a Christian is about...loving each other. To be a follower of Jesus, I believe that you have to believe in Him, and do good that promotes Jesus and God. I want to become a member of the church and a follower of Jesus Christ because this is my faith and becoming a member will help me better understand and learn more about God and how to spread the word. I believe that the Bible is full of events of what God, Jesus, and other people have done that helps us understand and believe in him. Also it teaches us more about Christianity and what God did for us. Nathan Hume My relationship with God is a lot like other Christians. Much of the time I forget God is there, and when I pursue Him I feel like I am not doing enough. I know the stories behind Jesus. But I need to acknowledge Him and seek Him in all things. I want to be more connected to Jesus. I have done irresponsible things and I worry that they will drive me away from God. There are many things that distract me from God, and pressures from my friends to focus on other activities. I want to focus on the big picture and that God is my future. That s why my faith is important to me. Jesus showed me that there is no sacrifice too great. In confirmation I have learned more about what that sacrifice means and I have become more connected to God. I know that I don t need to earn God s favor, but I do want to do something helpful in my life with my faith. I want God to be pleased with me. Tyler MacIndoe I believe in the creator of all things and that He created us in His image. I believe in the loving and caring Jesus Christ and that He loved us so much he died on the cross, so we can go to heaven and walk beside Him. I believe in that the Holy Spirit guides me and how it teaches you about God, and the Holy Spirit takes our messages (prayers) to God. I believe the message of the church is to spread the good news and to take care of all God s people and to welcome them in. What I think it means to be a Christ follower is being kind, loving, and to 4
care about anyone and it also means to share the good news of God. Why I want to join the church is to spread the good news of God and help other people in other countries and to learn more about God. I believe the Bible is God speaking to us and trying to get us in heaven with Him, I also think it is important because it is the way to heaven and a Holy Book that tells us what to do. This is my faith statement. Jake Pettingell God is everywhere, He is inside all of us. He created the entire universe and all of existence. He is a kind and loving God. Jesus is the Son of God, God sent him down to Earth to save us, make people stop sinning, and to spread the word of God and believe in Him. Jesus taught kindness and forgiveness and wants everyone to live in peace and harmony. God sent his only Son down to Earth to spread the word of Him. The Holy Spirit is Joy and the presence of the Lord. The Holy Spirit spreads faith throughout the world. A church is somewhere where we all learn about God. Unlike outside of the church everyone has different beliefs, inside church, we all have the same beliefs. I want to be a part of the church to create a stronger connection with God. Also at church everyone is a family and cares for each other. It is amazing to be a follower of Jesus. In order to be a follower of Jesus, you must be loving, kind, and forgiving. In tough times God can always help you out. You can pray to him, and he can show you things in the way of the Holy Spirit. Being a Christian means that you need to be loving and forgiving, and spread the way of the Lord. During this life and after we pass away, we want to always be loving to each other and go to heaven after we pass away. God has made me very athletic, kind, and loving. I think God wants me to be a happy and a kind son of his. I also think he wants all Christians to spread the word of Him. Worship and the Sacraments are very important parts of my faith, because it builds a stronger connection with God. Wyatt Plattner I believe in the God that is with me at all times. God guides my life on a good path. For example, I made a mistake and I believe that all bad things happen for a reason so we can learn. I think God puts the bad things in my life for a reason. I believe in the caring Jesus Christ that was crucified for us. I believe in the Holy Spirit because He is the messenger for our prayers to God. The mission of the church is the spreading of God s word. To be a follower of Jesus to me means to be loving, caring, and in others ways within the community. The Bible is a book that helps us worship God and to spread God s word to everyone who believes in Him. It s important because I believe it helps us worship God and His word. 5
Brooke Riley I ve always wanted to help people, I believe following God s plan is the way to do that. I believe in God and the Holy Spirit, and that Jesus died on the cross for our sins. We do something wrong, and Jesus still loves us. I will always love Jesus. I believe the Holy Spirit will always lead me to make the right decisions. God is always with me, God is always with you. I am no longer scared of the dark, ghosts, and death for I know that God is protecting me in everything I do. He is right by my side not just 24/7, but 25/8. Even though I am still yet to see God, I know he s there, what s up God! Jenna Riley I believe God is my Father and will love me for me. He has helped me through many tough times where I felt I couldn t do something I wanted really, really badly. And I got through it. Jesus is the Son of God. He died on the cross to forgive us from our sins no matter how bad they can be. That makes me feel great knowing that no matter how hard I mess up, I know I can always get through it. I believe in the Holy Trinity. I believe I am covered with grace. I want to continue this way as a person, and I hope it never changes. God loves me and everyone else so so much that it would be kind of rude to turn that down. So I would love to prove how much I love him too by confirming my faith as a Presbyterian Christian. Matthew Saba I believe that God is real regardless of what others say. I believe God has a plan for all of us. I believe that all things are possible through the power of Christ. For example, things such as healing and happiness can be achieved through Christ. I believe Jesus never sinned, died for us, saved us from sin, and rose from the dead. I believe that God intended for church to be a place of worship for His followers. I believe church is a place to serve and glorify God through the community. I believe that coming to church is very important, and we benefit from it because it brings us closer to God. I believe that the Bible is a guide for how we should lead our lives as Christians and is also used as a teaching tool to tell stories with morals. In my favorite parable, The Parable of the Four Soils, Jesus teaches us that people do not always accept Christ into their lives, but if his falls on the right ears, they will accept Christ into their lives. 6
Ella Scarlett I believe in God, he is the Father almighty. God created everything and continues to create. God is loving of all and forgives us of our sins. Jesus is the Son of God born of Mary. He served God, his father teaching the people the ways of God and how to live. Jesus wants us to love God, have faith in Him and to be honest and humble. Jesus died for us, was crucified and ascended into heaven. He died to forgive the sins of the people. The Holy Spirit conceived Jesus. The Holy Spirit is a gift from God in us. The church is the house of God and is where we come as a family under Him and worship Him. The mission of the church is to spread the word and love of God. To be a follower of Jesus, you are a follower of God, the son and the Holy Spirit. God has given me a healthy life and loving family. As a Christian, you are honest, forgiving, understanding and humble to yourself and others. In being a Christian, you are given the hope of being forgiven and to have the gift of heaven. Worship and the Sacraments give me an opportunity to learn and understand the Bible and God. The Sacraments confirm my beliefs and my faith for God and Jesus. Kevin Southerland Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. John 14:1 Being a good Christian has always been important to me and my family, and my Confirmation is the next step in my journey with God. God is our Lord and Savior. I believe that people have the free will to accept or reject God s grace. I think that God doesn t force us to do anything He just sets the path for us to follow. If we don t follow it then we have failed Him. I believe that God created Earth for us to live in and that He is very forgiving of my mistakes. Jesus is God s only Son that came from heaven to save us from our sins. Jesus taught us many new teachings about how to be a better Christian, such as love your neighbor as you love yourself. Jesus wants everyone to live by the word of Hod and he died doing this. The Holy Spirit is what people hear and feel from God. The Holy Spirit speaks and comforts us when we need it, and it puts us in place when we are being sinful. I believe the Holy Spirit is the messenger of God, and it helps us understand our lives. To be a follower of Jesus I believe you must believe in God. I also believe that the church s main goal is to help people affirm their faith by teaching them the word of God. 7
Alexander Vafeas Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19 I believe there is only one true God. He is a God that loves us and watches over us. I believe God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to save us from our sins. I believe in the Trinity God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit. I believe the mission of the church is to be a light to others and show Christ s love to all. I believe we should act as Jesus would act in everything that we say and do. I want to read the Bible more because it explains the word of God and it teaches what God wants us to do and what God expects us to do. I want to show others what it means to be a Christian by following God s teachings and sharing His love. I want to use the gifts and talents that God has given me in a way that glorifies Him and helps others. I want to live out the Church of the Palms mission to Love God and Love Neighbor. Ashley VanDerzee I believe there is one true God, eternally existing in three forms. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is my whole world. I will follow Him with all my heart, soul, and mind. I believe in the virgin birth and that He died for our sins, descended into hell, rose again and ascended into heaven. I trust that He will lead me down that the path I am supposed to follow. From the way I act and treat others to my life outside of the church. I will stay true to Him everywhere I go in and outside of the church. I am thankful that one day I will receive the glory God and all of His blessings. Calder Volino I believe in God, the father of Jesus Christ who is our Lord and Savior. I believe Jesus died on the cross so that us, being humans, could experience the forgiveness of sins and learn to love each other and be accepting of one another. I believe that God is the one who is always beside me wherever I may be. I believe that Jesus Christ, God s only son, was sent to teach us to be loving and caring and we learn from His words and works in the Bible. I believe God exist as Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit and that s eternal. I believe the Holy Spirit is alive and sends my messages to God when I pray, and God sends messages back to me. 8
I believe the mission of the church is to spread the good news of the gospel through my community and the world. Jesus words in the Bible teaches us how to complete this mission. I believe being a follower of Jesus Christ means He can show me a path through bad times. I believe being Christian is through prayer, worship, and even communion. My hope as a Christian is that God has a plan for me. I want to be a follower of Jesus Christ because I depend on Him through faith. I want to become a member of the church so that I can enjoy worshiping with other Christians, participate in youth group, and take part in mission trips to help others. I believe the Bible is the messages and teachings of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. It s important to me because I believe in their words in the Bible, teaching me their overall plan for me. 9
