7 ANNOUNCEMENTS THE TALE OF THE KING, PART 1 HIS Arrival Not what you would expect is it? As we come to the arrival of the King into Jerusalem, we are actually seeing the entrance of Israel s long awaited Messiah the King of kings. Yet the level of complete irony is hard to overlook if your vantage point is that of those who that day were there in Jerusalem. They must have been thinking to themselves as the applause swelled before the procession, A king on a donkey, are you kidding me? Yet, according to scripture and befitting the King of humility, the Bible describes so clearly that this is the King coming to take His throne. The whole scene seems as such a paradox when you ponder it closely. Jesus is surrounded by and witnessed great joy and merriment. But He knew then, and we who have trusted Him for our salvation know now, that He is headed not for a gold gilded throne, but for a harsh wooden instrument of death the Roman Cross and three iron nails to hold Him there. Perhaps the strangest of all the dynamics of His entry into Jerusalem was this the ones bearing the palms, cheering him on, are the ones who, a week later will shout at the top of their lungs for Him to be crucified. At times, we too may bear the palms shouting, Hosanna, glory to God in the highest, blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. However, with our actions later that same day, we shout, Crucify Him, as we stumble our way through yet another bout of sin. What sadness and even distress must have filled Jesus heart as He is sitting on this donkey, surrounded by all the happiness, gladness and joy of the Passover celebration, knowing that the sins of the world were for Him to bear. What mix of emotions must have filled the heart of God s only Son as He rode up to that city the city He loved most among all the cities of the world, and where He would spend His last week. Even His disciples around Him were overjoyed and yet oblivious and unaware. Because of our sins, perhaps even today, indeed, all of us crucified our Lord and Savior Jesus that week. We are the festive Jerusalemites preparing for Passover, who are cheering for Him one day and crucifying Him the next. He arrived so that we would survive our sin-filled living by placing our lives in his nail-scarred hands to receive though faith in Him, a complete pardon by His amazing Grace. The King came for you. Will you surrender your life fully to His Kingdom purpose for you? Pastor Jeff Easter Celebration We are overjoyed to have our Easter Celebration here at CCSB!
