1 Year One Week Two of Bible Road Trip is all about exploring the Old Testament. It can be tempting to see the Old Testament as less important than the New Testament. After all, we tend to be interested in reading about Jesus. The wonderful truth is that Jesus is present throughout the Old Testament. In addition, we must remember that every time the Bible refers to Scripture, it is referencing the Old Testament. Recall one of our verses from Year One Week One: 2 Timothy 3:14-17 says: But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (NIV) Knowing and understanding the Old Testament is critical to our understanding of God s plan for salvation, of the story of our Messiah, and of the New Testament itself. The Old Testament shows up in the New Testament in both direct quotes, and in allusions to the Old Testament Scriptures. There are 343 Old Testament quotes in the New Testament. In addition to the direct quotes, allusions abound. There are at least 620 allusions to the Old Testament just found in the book of Revelation! Theopedia: An Encyclopedia of Christianity has an interesting article entitled New Testament Use of the Old Testament where I located the above statistics. You can read the article at: I would argue that we cannot truly understand the New Testament without knowing the Old Testament. Bible Road Trip ~ will help children see the connection between the Old and New Testament, and Jesus presence in both. In preparation for Genesis, which begins next week, every level will take a look at the Pentateuch. Praying about the Word for the Grammar levels will look at Judaism, while Dialectic and Rhetoric students will begin a study of Asia.

It can be as simple as 3 cut brown pieces of paper glued across the poster board as shelves. Label your shelves with The Law, History, Poetry, Major Prophets, Minor Prophets. Every time you begin a new book of the Bible, cut a rectangular book spine out of cardstock, write the name of the book along the spine, and glue it onto the right part of the bookshelf. Make the book spines in your sections all the same color. For instance, make The Law books shades of yellow, and the History books shades of green or purple. Find a good spot to hang your poster, or file your cardstock in your notebook. You ll fill this bookshelf over the next two years as we study the Old Testament! Create a work of art for your Bible Verse Catalog, using your verse for this week.
