2 1Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, in keeping with the promise of life that is in Christ Jesus, 2 To Timothy, my dear son: Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. 2 Timothy 1:1-8

3 I thank God, whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. 4 Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. 3 2 Timothy 1:1-8

4 2 Timothy 1:1-8 I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. 5

5 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. 6 2 Timothy 1:1-8

6 2 Timothy 1:1-8 So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God. 8

9 What do we know about Pastor Timothy?

10 i. He was young

11 1 Timothy 4:12 Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

13 1 Timothy 5:23 Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses.

14 iii. He was unique

15 Philippians 2:20 I have no one else like him, who will show genuine concern for your welfare.

16 iv. He was jailed

17 Hebrews 13:23 I want you to know that our brother Timothy has been released. If he arrives soon, I will come with him to see you."

28 Get Mark and bring him with you, because he is helpful to me in my ministry. 12 I sent Tychicus to Ephesus. 13 When you come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas, and my scrolls, especially the parchments. 2 Timothy 4:9-13

31 Mentorship is not the exclusive responsibility of the church, nor of the home; it is the partnership between the church and home

32 2) Mentoring in the Home (vs. 5)

33 2 Timothy 1:5 I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. 5

34 God has not intended for pastors to parent children. Parents pastor in their homes, just as pastors pastor in the church

35 A) Teaching (2 Timothy 3:14-17)

36 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus Timothy 3:14-17

37 2 Timothy 3: All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

38 If you want your children's walk with the Lord to be deep, your walk with the Lord must be deep. Never hold your children to a standard that you yourself cannot reach.

39 B) Lifestyle (Deuteronomy 6:4-9)

40 Deuteronomy 6:4-9 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 4

41 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Deuteronomy 6:4-9

42 Deuteronomy 6:4-9 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
