2 FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT DECEMBER 20TH, 2015 CHRISTMAS 2015 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, May the peace of this Christmas season be with all of you! One of the traditional images of Christmas that readily comes to our minds is the star, shining brightly above the manger where Jesus was laid. The thought of light dispelling the darkness brings a sense of happiness. We only need to drive around on Christmas Eve and see houses lit up in colorful displays to realize how light has a way of lifting our spirits. Christ Jesus came into our world to be the light of the human race, as the beginning of John s Gospel proclaims. No matter what the coming year may bring, it is my hope that each of us may find comfort in knowing that the light of God s Love shines in our hearts. With my best wishes for a joyous and Merry Christmas, I am Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend John R. Gaydos Bishop of Jefferson City THIS WEEK SUN. Don and Jo Ann Drake SAINT OF THE WEEK St. John of Kanty ( )- December 23 was a Polish priest, scholastic philosopher, physicist, and a theologian. He was born in Poland. After graduating from the Kraków Academy, John taught philosophy while preparing for the priesthood. He was a professor of theology and spent many hours copying manuscripts of the Holy Scriptures. John became well known for his generosity and compassion toward the poor, especially needy students. He subsisted on what was strictly necessary to sustain his life. He made four pilgrimages to Rome, carrying his luggage on his back. He slept little, ate sparingly, and took no meat. He was a typical Saint: kind, humble, and generous. May we realize as he did that "what kind of work can be more noble than to cultivate the minds of young people so that the love of God and his Holy precepts go hand-in- DECEMBER ANNIVERSARIES CONGRATULATIONS Melvin & Jane Grossman, 58 years Bob & Judy Raeth, 45 years George & Kathy Tankersley, 44 years Gary & Rhonda Burris, 35 years May the Lord Bless you with many more years!! 4 COACOATS FOR KIDS ST. PAT S CHRISTMAS SCHEDULE THANKS FOR YOUR GENEROUSITY!!! We work with the nurses at the Versailles and Stover schools. At this time of the year we respond accordingly and have provided either coats, gloves, sweat pants, underwear, tennis shoes, soap and toiletries to over 300 children. As requests are received throughout the school year, we respond accordingly. Thanks also to the Knights for your donation!! Your donations are making a difference!! Thanks for helping us help others!! God Bless!! Jim & Harriet Troia Ed and Gwen Seaton THE PRESENT OF PRESENCE God sent a present into the world, the Gift of loving presence named Jesus. The gospel stories indicate that Jesus gave few material things to people. What he gave most was his personal presence, gift that were treasures of the heart: belief in self, inner healing, peace of mind, compassion, forgiveness, dignity, and justice. Like Jesus, we can give from our inner abundance, gifts from the heart. Moments lovingly spent with another through prayer or through personal presence carry more beauty and have more endurance than anything material we could give. Advent is a good season to be more deliberate in sharing the present of our presence every day. It may be through a phone call, letter, a visit, or through the bonding of prayer as we focus love and attention toward those who need the strength of God to be with them.
