O God, we turn to you in our confessions, and ask that you help us to release that which deals death, so that we may receive Christ, who gives life. PRAYER OF CONFESSION O Holy God, forgive us our sins. We cling to those who have died and are bound by our memories of a perfect past. We hold right to our preconceptions about God and are unwilling to experience the holy in new ways. We clutch the Easter holi day rather than letting resurrection change our liv es. Meet us in the garden of weeping and forgive us our fears and sins. Amen. (silent meditation) ASSURANCE OF PARDON Christ is risen and all our guilt and sin are left behind in the tomb. Alleluia! Thank s be to God. Amen. Passing of the Peace SUNG RESPONSE #390 Praise, Praise, Praise the Lord! The strike is o'er, the battle done: Now is the victor's triumph won! Now be the song of praise begun. Alleluia! Christ the Lord is risen today. Alleluia! Earth and heav'n in chorus say: Alleluia! Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia! Sing, ye heav'ns, and earth reply: Alleluia! 6 6 I nvitation to the Lord s Table He was always the guest. In the homes of Mary and Martha, Peter and Jairus, Joanna and Susanna, he was always the guest. At the meal tables of the wealthy. where he pled the case of the poor, he was always the guest. Upsetting polite company, befriending the isolated, welcoming the stranger and shunned, he was always the guest. But here at this table, he is the host. Those who wish to serve him must first be served by him. Those who want to follow him must first be led by him. Those who would wash his feet must first let him make them clean. This is the table where God intends us to be nourished. This is the time when God can make us new. So come you who hunger and thirst for a deeper faith, for a better life and a fairer world. Jesus Christ, who sat at our tables, now invites us to be a guest at his. The Great Thanksgiving The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give God thanks and praise. Eternal God, it is our joy to give you thanks and praise, for you alone are God. You laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. You made us in your image and called us to be your people. When we turned from you, you still loved us and sought us. In Christ you called us back to you, and opened the way to eternal life. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with all the faithful of every time and place, who forever sing to the glory of your name: *THE SANCTUS (Hymn #597 v.2)
7 Holy, most holy Lord, Lord God of power and might, Heaven and earth are filled, filled with your holy light. O blessed is the One, the One who comes, Comes in the name of God. Hosanna in the high est, hosanna, Sanna, sanna sanna! Great is the mystery of faith: Christ has died, but death does not have the last word. Christ is risen, and Christ calls us by name. Christ will come again and lead us to God s glory! Alleluia! PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD S PRAYER [You are welcome to say the Lord's Prayer (and any prayers) in your native language.] Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever, Amen. Breaking of Bread/ Communion of the People WORDS OF INSTITUTION PRAYER OF CONSECRATION *HYMN DURING COMMUNION #511 Come, Behold! The Feast of Heaven PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION: In gratitude, deep gratitude, for this moment, this meal, these people, we give ourselves to you. Take us out to live as changed, Easter people. Because we have seen the Lord and shared the Living Bread, we cannot remain the same. Ask much of us, expect much from us, enable much by us, encourage many through us. May we live to your glory, both as inhabitants of this garden earth and as citizens of the commonwealth of heaven. May we never cease singing your praises and liv ing out our Allelu ias. Amen. 7
8 Going Forth in Dedication and Service *HYMN #240 Alleluia, Alleluia! Give Thanks *THE CHARGE and BENEDICTION SENDING MUSIC Postlude: Hail the Day That Sees Him Rise! (Williams/Forest) Bonnie Callahan, Trumpet Max Wang, Percussion If God be for us, Who can be against us? He who did not spare His only Son, but gave Him up for all, shall he not with him freely give us all things? (repeat) Hall the day that sees Him rise, alleluia! To His throne beyond the skies, alleluia! Christ, the lamb for sinners given, alleluia! Enters now the highest heaven, alleluia. Circled around with angel powers, alleluia! There triumphant Lord and ours, alleluia! Christ has conquered death and sin, alleluia! Take the King of glory in, alleluia! Hail the day that sees Him rise, alleluia! To his throne beyond the skies, alleluia! Christ, the lamb for sinners given, alleluia! Enters now the highest heaven, alleluia! Shall he not with him freely give us all things? Alleluia! Our liturgist, Joe VanDeWeert, and our reader, David Voreacos, are helping lead our worship this morning. Our communion servers are Tom Topousis, Pete Shanno, Suzanne Broffman, Lisa VanDeWeert. 11 CLI MATE CHANGE R ALLY Saturday, April 29 at 9:30 a.m. in Wood Park we join others from Leonia and beyond in showing our support for caring for the earth. As Christians, we understand the earth as God s creation, so to do violence to the earth is to damage God s holy work. We join others in discovering ways we can tread more lightly upon the earth. There will be children s activities, speakers, music, and fun learning activities. See flyer in today s bulletin. JOI N A BI BLE STUDY Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. we have a weekly Bible Study. Our Wednesday Bible Study meets at 10:45 am and our ESL Bible Study meets most Sundays (unless there is another church activity) from noon-1pm, and includes lunch. New members are always welcome to any of these classes. Come and explore faith together and make closer relationships in the process. FAMI LY PR OMI SE OF BER GEN COUNTY The Family Promise annual Hike or Bike event will be held on Sunday, May 7 th. 12 MI SSI ON TR IP Our Mission Trip to the Yakima Indian Reservation in Washington State is July 9-15 is in formation. We have 8 planning to go. The cost of the trip is between $ ; however, there are generous people who have indicated they would like to help cover the local transportation and program cost, so that your cost would be just airfare--about $600. And there is funding available to cover even airfare for people who find that financially prohibitive. So, please consider joining us at the Presbyterian Church (USA) Campbell Farm ministry, which works with the local population of both reservation families and migrant workers. We will work with activity and feeding programs with the children at the Farm, feeding programs in the community, and for those with construction or painting skills we will offer repairs for the camp and its neighbors. Please pastorleonia@gmail.com if you are considering attending. WOR SHI P THOUGHTS Feel free to draw a picture of something in the service, write a question to ask about the service or write your reflections on the service. 1 CHUR CH OFFI CE: Fort Lee R oad, Leonia, NJ Web Site Rev.
