1 RESURRECTION CONNECTIONS September 19, 2010 Greetings Visitors! Welcome to worship at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. If you are a visitor, we encourage you to share your contact information either on the back of a pew envelope (and place it in offering plate) or by signing the guest book just outside the Sanctuary. We will make a follow-up contact with you to help answer any questions you may have about ministry at LCR. To contact Pastor Taylor, please direct inquiries to: rev_st@yahoo.com SPECIAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING - Your Vote Is Important - Please Plan To Attend!! ALL LCR members are encouraged to attend a special congregational meeting to be held on Sunday, October 17, 2010, immediately following the 11:00 am service. The meeting will have a singular purpose with regard to our building expansion program. A motion will be considered to take funds, not to exceed $25,000, from our endowment fund to meet the shortfall between the total cost of the previously approved Building Expansion Phase 1a project and the funds received through the Capital Campaign, dedicated to this project, and recorded in Fund 5. The intent will be to repay the endowment fund, with interest over the next five years. Between now and October 17th, you will have the opportunity to contribute an "over and above" thanksgiving offering to help offset the shortfall, thereby reducing the amount we will need to take from the endowment fund. Please watch your mail for a special communication for additional information. English Translation of Anthem Sung by our Quartet Cantate Domino Canticum Novum Giuseppe Pitoni Sing to the Lord a New Song Cantate Domino, cantata, cantata, cantata Domino Sing to the Lord on high, O sing ye, O sing ye, O sing to God on high, canticum vovum, laus ejus in ecclesia sanctorum, in ecclesia sanctorum. Laetetur Israel in eo, laetetur, laetetur in eo, Let all of Israel rejoice now, rejoice now, rejoice in Him, rejoice qui fecit eum, et filii Sion, et filii Sion exsultent, in Him who made them, and children of Zion, and children of Zion be joyful, exsultent, exsultent in rege suo, exsultent, exsultent in rege suo. Be joyful, be joyful and praise God, their King. Recovery Ministry LCR has started a new "recovery ministry" in an attempt to provide church and community members with information and support with concerns relating to alcohol consumption, drug use, or over- indulgence of activities that may be bringing life into spiritual imbalance.. If you feel participation may help you or someone you love, we urge you to join us. For more information or questions please inquiries to the group at lcr.recovery@gmail.com
2 Opportunities to Serve! Altar Guild Team: Do you have the gift of hospitality? Do you like to serve quietly behind the scenes? Preparing the worship area and altar for communion is an important job in the life of our faith community. We are presently looking for men and women to join our altar guild team for either set-up before 8am worship or clean-up after 11am. If you are interested in serving, please contact Pastor Sharon or Valda Wohlhueter. Property Committee: Are you a 'hands on" type of person? Are you looking for a way to serve that involves caring for the physical church facility? If so, the property team has an opportunity for you. We are looking to add a few good men and women to the ranks of the property team. Please join us on Monday, September 13th at 7:30 pm when we will meet with the other committees at LCR for "All Committee Night", then as a ministry team following the general session. Questions...please contact Ken Speers, Eric Evenson or Diane Casey. Energy, Flexibility & Balance Who would not want to enjoy more energy, as well as great flexibility and balance? With just 20 minutes every day you can see these improved health benefits in as little as 6 weeks. But, don t take my word for it. The Harvard Medical School Newsletter lists studies at various universities which showed improvement for several health conditions, including: arthritis, hypertension, sleep problems and heart disease. The recent issue of the New England Journal of Medicine noted improvement in pain reduction and improved mood with the use of Tai Chi as an alternative treatment. If you would like to learn more, please join Clyde Beury in the LCR fellowship hall on Monday, September 20 th at 11 a.m. for an introduction to Tai Chi. This will be a 45 minute session with an emphasis on a few simple movements after a brief warm-up (part of this can be done while sitting). NO SPECIAL CLOTHING OR EQUIPMENT REQUIRED! Just bring an open mind and wear comfortable clothing and flat shoes. Think of the session as slow motion yoga with relaxed breathing. If you have any questions, please talk with Clyde at Medication Disposal Do you have unused, unneeded or expired medications in your home? Bucks County Area Agency on Aging along with TODAY Inc. and the DEA are sponsoring a safe, FREE and confidential way to dispose of these items. On Saturday, September 25 from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m. at 20 sites throughout Bucks County you can drop off the following medications: Prescription and over-thecounter solid dosage medication, i.e. tablets and capsules. DO NOT BRING: Intravenous solutions, injectables, needles or liquids. Also, illegal substances such as marijuana or other street drugs will not be accepted. The former advice of flushing medications down the toilet is no longer an acceptable practice; bring them to any of the locations listed on the poster located on the Bulletin Board leading to the Fellowship Hall. Any questions please see Clyde Beury. A Wedding! Liz Spencer and Sean Siffel invite all members of the congregation to attend their wedding on October 1, 2010 at 3:00 pm. All are welcome! Nooma Returns to LCR Jesus lived with the awareness that God is doing something, right here, right now, and anybody can be a part of it. He encouraged his listeners to search, to question, to wrestle with the implications of what he was saying and doing. He inspired, challenged, provoked, comforted, and invited people to be open to God s work in this world. Wherever he went, whatever he did, Jesus started discussions about what matters most, because for Jesus, God is always inviting us to open our eyes and join in. NOOMA is a series of short films that explore our world from a perspective of Jesus. NOOMA is an invitation to search, question, and join the discussion, from the Nooma website, nooma.com Join us for our first monthly session on Thursday, October 21, at 7 pm, in Fellowship Hall. 5 Social Media Team News We are moving forward with LCR s Media Team! We are letting our congregation, community and the world know what we do in the spreading of our Christian faith through all of our projects, events and missions. We have undertaken, with the approval of council, a mission to photograph and video the goings on at LCR and place them on our web site But we realize that not everyone will want to have their photograph used so we are asking that if you are at an event where the team is working to please tell them not to take your picture. In addition, each team member will have a permission form for minors (anyone under the age of 18) to be signed by a parent or guardian. The Social Media Team members are Michael Garozzo, Justin Benner, Nick Fiscarelli, Kari Ries. Financial News
