For more than six years this school in Peoria, Illinois, has been sending missions team members to our school. Once again, ACA joyfully welcomed the 2010 Korea Missions Team from PCS. This year was very challenging for all the members. I ve never done a mission trip, but my best friends Lyssa and Rachel came last year, and they talked about how much the mission trip influenced their lives. So, I prayed and felt I should join the Korea Team, said Lyndzi Miller (12 th grader). More than 20 students at PCS applied for the missions trip this year. They all had interviewed with the school s principal before being selected. According to all the students, the interview was extremely tough. All in all, 14 students were selected for this year s missions trip. It was good to see Mrs. Nelson again, who has been visiting ACA along with PCS Team for the last six years. Mrs. Nelson also excited everyone by bringing Indianstyle costumes (Sari) and cuisines for Spring Fling. ACA students became attached to PCS missions team members very quickly. The educational program with PCS Team was for ten days. ACA students and the PCS Team interacted as the members taught ACA students interesting subjects such as speech and economy. During the week, the PCS missions team had a chance to visit two meaningful places. First, they were invited by the Bo Young Girls High School. Many of them could see the differences between Korean high school and American high school. Second, the young missionaries visited a local orphanage and spent some time with kids Continued in page 2

2 at the orphanage. They performed an amazing skit called The Miracles of Jesus. Thankfully, PCS again prepared very entertaining and meaningful events for us: Spring Fling and Retreat. This year s Spring Fling was sensational, for it was Indian style. Mrs. Nelson brought not only the ingredients for Indian dishes but also the traditional outfits for both girls and boys. PCS missions team, using Indian silk fabrics with distinctive colors, did an amazing job in decoration. Even though the Indian dishes looked strange and unfamiliar to many ACA students, they all tasted delicious. Needless to say, the retreat was the unforgettable part of this year s educational program with PCS. The students were able to learn more about the Holy Spirit and how He can be the best supporter in our lives. We also played hilarious games. Surprisingly, the teachers were involved in games in which they had to feed each other with milk and yogurt. Through the worship at late night, several of ACA students truly felt the presence of God and accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior. I loved seeing the people changed. Especially, I liked seeing the high school students going through the transformation as they accepted Christ as S t a r L i g h t their Savior, said Laura Friday (11 th grader). 3 By Ye Eun Hong (11th Grade) and Michael Joo (10th Grade) O n March 15~16th, ACA Middle and High School students and PCS students and teachers went to an annual spiritual retreat to a nearby local church. At this retreat, Mrs. Nelson and Mrs. Claxton spoke about the work of the Holy Spirit. The retreat s main topic was about how the Holy Spirit could help and work in us. Students also divided into small groups with PCS and had a sharing time. We also shared prayer requests, so that PCS could pray for one another. We also did some activities and games that are related to our studies. Many students enjoyed their time with PCS. During the evening worship and praise time many students broke down and cried. It was life changing experience for many of us. Many gave their life to Jesus that night. We all hugged and cried. We were able to share our pain. For many ACA students they now have new brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus! It was also wonderful to see ACA and PCS teachers holding hands with the students and praying. It was memorable retreat that we will never forget. M a r c h / 3

4 By Genesis Diaz (12th grade) H ave you ever been to an Indian restaurant in India? This year the PCS team came up with new By Min Yong Glenn (9th grade) surprising and interesting ideas for the Spring Fling. This year s annual Spring Fling was held on March 12 with the purpose of getting the PCS and ACA students to enjoy a memorable night. The room was decorated with colorful decorations from India. The tables were set up with By Jenny Usukhbayar (10th grade) candlesticks and special Indian drinks. The whole atmosphere felt like we were really in Indian. Mrs. Nelson, the coordinator of this event, brought traditional clothes form India for both male and female students. I started shopping from December to January with the help of my helpers back in India. Since I live there, I thought it would be a good influence to have another culture for the Spring Fling. My expectations for that night is that God shows up, and He can get all the glory out of it, said Mrs. Nelson. As the night went on, the food was served by the PCS missions team members. There were many types of food. For example, lemon rice mix, Dal Fry, mix vegetable curry and Alu Muttar. Their tasty flavor made a memorable night. Pictures were taken, and all kinds of laughter were heard during the delicious dinner. Soon after, Mr. Kang and Mrs. Nelson gathered all the students and teachers to one side of the room to take a group picture. During that time, Mrs. Nelson called one of her helpers from India, for us to thank for all the help he had provided to make the night possible, such as shopping for food and clothing. In one loud voice we all expressed our gratitude, and the helper was very happy to ear it, all the way from India. As the night came to end, students and teachers gathered around to dance as a family in Christ. PCS had made a last impact on all of the ACA students, and Spring Fling is one of the great moments that would be kept in our hearts forever. m a r c h / 4

5 PCS s visit to My Home Orphanage By Jung Do Huh (9th Grade) and Betty Kim (9th Grade) On March 11, PCS and ACA students visited My Home Orphanage. This orphanage is supported by Mrs. Kang, who has been a board member of this orphanage for about 8years. Through this relationship our school naturally became connected with the orphanage. This is the first time that ACA students had the opportunity to help the kids in the orphanage along with PCS. Even though the PCS went to the center last year, they were excited to see the kids again. Same as last year, PCS donated money for dinner. The kids loved the food. They also liked the skit, The Life and Miracles of Jesus that the PCS performed. After the skit, older kids at the orphanage and some of the PCS and ACA students went to the stadium to played soccer. Others played various American games at the orphanage. Young kids really liked playing musical chairs, duck duck goose, Simon says, and numbering games with the PCS and ACA students. Everyone had a great time together. It was meaningful visit for us. Ping Pong and Chess Tournament ACA Students raise 300,000 won for the Global Outreach Program to the Philippines By Brandon Hagen (9th Grade) he day that the ping pong and chess fans had eagerly waited for finally came. On March 26, ACA T had a ping pong and chess tournaments. Excitement filled the 1st floor lounge as the tournaments began. The prizes were all ready for the winners of the tournaments. However, the tournaments are not just about winning the prizes. The purpose behind these tournaments were fundraising for the Global Outreach missions team. In Ping pong singles and doubles, there were both competitive and social groups. The two players who had the best records competed at the finals. The entry cost for one event was 5,000 won, 8,000 won for two events, and 10,000 won for all three events. The winners were Jung Do Huh for ping pong competitive singles, Genesis Diaz for social singles; Genesis Diaz and Betty Kim won for Social Doubles, Beyker Muente and Jung Do Huh won for competitive double. For chess tournament, Daniel Gargallo, a 6th grader, won. We were able to raise 300,000 won for the missions team. We will use the fund to purchase school supplies for the students in the Philippines. Congratulations to those who won and big thanks to all the students who participated in the tournament! m a r c h / 5

6 . The picnic for the older students, 6 th through 12 th grade was definitely different from the younger students. It was held on the 25 th of September, a dry, hot day, perfect weather for climbing a mountain! The picnic location was Soyo Mountain just like the younger students, but their main purpose for this picnic was hiking, which shocked many of the students. ACA The students came and in their pray gym collect clothes just funds like to any help other earthquake Fridays for P.E. victims. Everyone perfectly prepared enough water for the thirst of hiking to the top of Soyo Mountain. Also, a prison was damaged allowing the prisoners to escape freely. Chilean police had recaptured 36 of 203 prisoners that have escaped. The ACA student council is preparing a Prayer Day for Chile and Haiti. Moreover, the members are making posters and sending out letters to inspire other students and parents to donate to this charity. We can help these people in difficult situations by praying for them. We hope that our small prayers and donations will comfort those who lost so much and suffered a lot. Our hearts go out to all the victims of the earthquake. m a r c h / 6

Minkie Porter (9th grade) YES I think ACA should have school uniform because some students want to have a chance of wearing a school uniform in their life time. Also if we have a school uniform, we don t have to worry about what we are going to wear every day. Sunny Renville (10th grade) NO I disagree that we should have a school uniform because to design and make the uniform will cost students too much money. And I know some girls don t like to wear skirt to school. m a r c h / 7

8 Beyker Muente (9th Grade) This movie is about a story of a quiet young man named Michael Oher, who had been separated from his mother. One of his friend s father, a football coach, takes Mike to another team. After the father convinces the coach of the other team to accept Big Mike into his team, Mike is enrolled into a Christian School. In the beginning, he felt so lonely because he was an African American in a mostly white school. In the new school, Mike meets a little boy named Sean SJ, who quickly becomes his friend. One day, Sean s mother; Leigh Anne, sees Mike walking on the road shaking in the freezing rain, so she decided to pick him up and let him sleep over her house. After that night, Leigh starts to feel compassion for Mike and she gets to know more about him, his humble heart and his innocent Spirit. Mike slowly starts to become part of the Christian family, and Leigh and her family decides to adopt Mike. When Big Mike gets adopted by the family, he starts to develop his skills in football and becomes a good player. Studying hard, he finally graduates from his school, and because of his abilities on the football team, he is recruited by many colleges. Eventually, he decides to study in Tennessee near where his new family was living. This movie teaches you about what real love is about love accepting people as they are. This love overcomes skin color, social classes, and family background. Something that I learned from Mike was his courage. According to Mike, courage is tricky, and you always should hope for courage and try for honor.
