4 Did You Know? WELCOME CENTER Our Savior s Way is developing a Welcome Center for the Narthex. This is a project presently in the research and development stage. All questions and suggestions are welcome. If you are interested in assisting in this ministry, please contact Martie Dunnett, Debbie Justice, or Roxie Sullivan. We will be seeking helpers for very short time frames - approximately 15 minutes before and after each service - to answer questions, give directions, take requests, etc. for our members and guests. We're very excited about this outreach opportunity and look forward to the Welcome Center becoming a hub of activity! CROSSWAYS TO BEGIN AGAIN Crossways is a 60 week Bible Study course covering the whole Bible from Genesis to Revelation. It is a great course, giving you a perspective of GRACE in both the Old and New Testaments. There is Bible reading and some homework for each lesson; class time is valuable even if you are not able to get all the homework done. This would be a wonderful way to follow up on "The Story" that we are going through now at OSWLC. Call Tom at the church office or contact Pastor Wiechmann to register for Crossways. We will determine the time and day when enough sign up to meet the most schedules. Ralph Wiechmann pastor.wiechmann@oswlc.org EARLY COMMUNION CLASS OSWLC has an early Communion policy that permits children to begin communing before confirmation. Participation in a six-week course, taught by Pastor Wiechmann, is required before beginning to commune. We would like to start a class soon, so the attendees can commune during Holy Week/Easter. Call Tom at the church office, or contact Pastor Wiechmann to register or to have your questions answered. Ralph Wiechmann pastor.wiechmann@oswlc.org EXTEND YOUR SUNDAY WORSHIP Increase your Sunday worship experience on tv or radio. On tv, tune into THE TIME OF GRACE on Verizon Fios channel 6 or 506 at 9:00-9:30 a.m. This comes out or a Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, WI with Pastor Mark Jeske. It is worth watching. On the radio, tune in to THE LUTHERAN HOUR on WMZQ fm, 98.7 from 7:00-7:30 with Rev Greg Steltz as the speaker. You can also get daily devotions sent to your that are inspirational and Scripture based by signing up at Ralph Wiechmann pastor.wiechmann@oswlc.org FAITH FORWARD UPDATE Since we were able to finish paying off our $1.6 million Bridge Loan last October, all Faith Forward contributions have been used to make extra principle payments on our longterm Mortgage Loan. Thanks to our generous members, Faith Forward contributions have, thus far, permitted us to make extra principle payments of $56,554 since last October. These extra principle payments also reduce our future mortgage interest costs by $77,028, so our longterm mortgage debt has been reduced by a total of $133,582. Again, thank you for continuing to contribute to Faith Forward!

Carrianne Joback carrianne@oswlc.org DD Piotter ddpiotter@xantheon.com BLAZE SERVICE PROJECT TABS FOR REECE Please keep collecting the tabs off your soda cans. Help two-year old Reece give back to the hospital that has given her such great care with her Arthrogryposis. There is a large collection bin by the kitchen. If anyone would like a labeled container to start a collection of their own, we can provide one. One OSW youth talked to her principal and now her middle school is collecting tabs in the lunch room, teacher lounges and main office. Reece will be going to Shriners in the middle of February for a week of physical therapy. We are hopeful that she will be walking unassisted when she returns! Let s send her off with as many tabs as we can collect for this trip.
6 For You to Ponder Are You Involved in a Bible Class or Small Group? If not, now is a great time to get involved! Check out the small groups that are reading and discussing The Story by visiting our website: events/thestory/ There is no better way to make friends, get involved and grow in your faith! This month as we read the LOWER story of man s struggle to be faithful to God and Israel s spiritual failures, the UPPER story of God s faithfulness and God s love for us becomes clearer. Israel, like you and I, struggles to let go of our hope in ourselves for our prosperity and life and to trust in God s provision. Daniel s life models true faith. He never gives up on God s faithfulness even when life is filled with all kinds of problems and pressures. As we read about Israel s problems, keep your ears open to hear, the UPPER Story, God s story of hope and salvation. Feb 2 Ch The Beginning of the End Feb 9 Ch The Kingdom s Fall Feb16 Ch Daniel in Exile Feb 23 Ch The Return Home ARE YOU LISTENING? THE STORY is leading us through the prophets. Sadly, the only one of the prophets who had anyone actually listen to him and make a life change was Jonah, and he wasn t even talking to God s people! He was sent to the pagan nation of the Assyrians in Nineveh. When the people of Nineveh heard the same message that Amos and Hosea couldn t get through to the people of Israel, they fell on their faces and repented and turned to true worship of the true God and experienced a revival. It s ironic that the people who had the most opportunities over the years of their heritage to listen to God are the ones who turned a deaf ear to God, while these pagans listened to God immediately. God is still speaking today. Will we listen, or will we ignore his message like the Israelites did? God speaks to us through His Word, the Bible, and he has given us his Holy Spirit to speak to us, convict us, comfort us and illuminate God s words to us so we understand it. What is God saying to you today? Is he telling you to stop doing something? To go somewhere? To stop going someplace? To start something? To join something? To give up? To charge on? God is speaking are you listening?

8 Non Profit Org. U.S. Postage PAID Waxpool Road, Ashburn, VA Dulles, VA Permit No. 751 Return Service Requested - Dated Material - Do Not Delay SAVE WHAT REALLY MATTERS I want to make a confession, I am a collector. I hold onto things and find it difficult to throw things away. It drives my wife, Bobbie, crazy. She keeps telling me Save what is important and pitch the rest. Not so easy for me, because everything has a memory or has importance. Who knows when I might need that tool or want to look at that photo? Not having your priorities straight can clutter up an office or a garage but it can clutter up your life too. Jesus traveled light. He knew his life was not about getting head, collecting stuff, making a name for himself, pleasing others, or even being successful. He held onto His Father s will and pitched the rest. Imagine if God was making your decisions and could pitch anything he wanted? Scary? Maybe not so scary when you realize God always works for good. Why not go to the Lord and ask Him to help you discern what is important and empower you to pitch the rest. Rev. Dr. Eric G. Peterson, , pastor.peterson@oswlc.org BEAT THE WINTER BLUES SEASONAL AFFECTIVE DISORDER SAD is a condition affects many people s moods through the winter. Symptoms mirror those of depression, creating fatigue, sadness, anxiety, overeating, and mood changes. Tips to Counteract SAD: Exercise, especially outdoors in the daylight. A healthy diet full of nutrient-rich fruits and vegetables with an emphasis on omega-3-rich fish. Phototherapy, or bright light therapy, utilizes specially made lights that simulate the sun s rays that can wake you up in the morning and provide a homemade dawn. Antidepressants can be prescribed for those suffering extensively from SAD. source The Church Health Center PARISH NURSE Linda Merkle muv2much@aol.com Waxpool Road, Ashburn, VA
