Saturday of the Third Week of Easter The Holy Eucharist THE LITURGY OF THE WORD Processional Hymn Come, thou almighty King Hymnal 365 Celebrant: Celebrant: Celebrant: Alleluia! Christ is risen! The Lord is risen indeed! Alleluia! The Lord will pour out his Spirit upon all flesh, And your sons and daughters shall prophesy. Your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. You shall know that the Lord is in the midst of his people, that he is the Lord and there is none else. And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Let us pray. Collect O God, whose Son Jesus is the good shepherd of your people: Grant that when we hear his voice we may know him who calls us each by name, and follow where he leads; who, with you and the Holy Spirit, lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. First Reading (all be seated) Acts 4:23-37 (Pew Bible p. 888) Reader: The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.
The Gradual (all remain seated) Psalm 118:1, 8-9, 21-23, 26, 28, 29 Response: (Cantor sings once, then all sing) Verses: (Cantor sings Verse, then all sing Response) Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, For his mercy endures forever. It is better to take refuge in the LORD Than to trust in man. It is better to take refuge in the LORD Than to trust in princes. (Response) I will give thanks to you, for you have answered me And have been my savior. The stone which the builders rejected Has become the cornerstone. By the LORD has this been done; It is wonderful in our eyes. (Response) Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD; We bless you from the house of the LORD. I will give thanks to you, for you have answered me And have been my savior. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; For his kindness endures forever. (Response) Second Reading 1 John 3:1-10 (Pew Bible p. 990) Reader: The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Sequence (all stand) Show Us Christ (verse 1 and chorus) Bob Kauflin, Doug Plank; CCLI:
Deacon: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Saint John. Glory to you, Lord Christ. Holy Gospel John 10:11-16 (Pew Bible p. 872) Deacon: The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ. Sequence Show Us Christ (verse 2 and chorus) Bob Kauflin, Doug Plank; CCLI:
Sermon (all be seated) Nicene Creed (in unison) We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father [and the Son], who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. The Presentation, Exhortation and Examination Presenters: Presenters: Then the Bishop says: Right Reverend Father in God, we present these persons to receive the laying on of hands. Have they been adequately prepared? They have. Dearly beloved, it is essential that those who wish to be Confirmed in this Church must publicly confess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior; become his disciple; know and affirm the Nicene Creed, the Lord s Prayer, and the Ten Commandments; and have received instruction in the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments and the Catechism of the Church. God s grace is imparted in baptism where we are made God s children by adoption and given the Holy Spirit. Through the power of the Spirit, manifested in gifts and fruit, we are enabled to be God s people for the sake of the world. Now, these candidates here desire publicly to confess their faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and their commitment to follow him as Lord. They also desire the strengthening of grace through the laying on of hands that the Holy Spirit may fill them more and more for their ministry in the Church and in the world. Then the Bishop Addresses the Candidates: Candidates: Candidates: Candidates: Candidates: Candidates: Do you, here in the presence of God and the Church, renew the solemn promises and vows made at your Baptism and commit to keep them? I do. Do you renounce the Devil and all the spiritual forces of wickedness that rebel against God? I renounce them. Do you renounce the empty promises and deadly deceits of this world which corrupt and destroy the creatures of God? I renounce them. Do you renounce the sinful desires of the flesh that draw you from the love of God? I renounce them. Do you turn to Jesus Christ and confess him as your Lord and Savior? I do.
Candidates: Candidates: Do you joyfully receive the Christian Faith, as revealed in the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments? I do. Will you obediently keep God s holy will and commandments, and walk in them all the days of your life? I will, the Lord being my helper. The Bishop then Addresses the Congregation: Will you who witness these vows do all in your power to support these persons in their life in Christ? We will. Prayers for the Candidates Then the Bishop says: Let us pray. Almighty and everliving God, we ask you to strengthen these your servants for witness and ministry, through the power of your Holy Spirit. Daily increase in them the gift of your grace and the fruit of your Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. For Confirmation The Bishop lays hands upon each one and says: Defend, O Lord, this your servant N. with your heavenly grace, that he may continue yours for ever, and daily increase in your Holy Spirit more and more until he comes into the fullness of your everlasting kingdom. Amen. For Reception N., we recognize you as a member of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church; and we receive you into the fellowship of this Communion. God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, bless, preserve, and empower you. Amen. For Reaffirmation N., the Holy Spirit, who has begun a good work in you, direct and empower you by his grace, that you may continue in the service of our Lord Jesus Christ all the days of your life. Amen. The Bishop concludes with this prayer: Almighty and everliving God, let your fatherly hand be upon these your servants; let your Holy Spirit ever be with them; and so lead them in the knowledge and obedience of your Holy Word, that they may faithfully serve you in this life, and joyfully dwell with you in the life to come; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Peace (all stand) Celebrant: The Peace of the Lord be always with you. And with your spirit. Announcements (all be seated) We rejoice with those who are being confirmed or received today: Emily Hinsberger, Christina Larsen and Jonathan Olson, Hugh McGinn, Kaitlin Monroe, Derek Morrow, Owen Schutte, Jill Selman, Bree and Charles Snow, Sarah and Phil Thomas, Tammy Wasson, Betty Wilder THE HOLY COMMUNION Offertory Come And Sing CCLI: Presentation Hymn Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below; Alleluia, Alleluia! Praise him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia! Lasst uns erfreuen Sursum Corda Celebrant: The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Celebrant: Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Celebrant: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give him thanks and praise. It is right, our duty and our joy, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. But chiefly are we bound to praise you for the glorious resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; for he is the true Paschal Lamb, which was offered for us, and has taken away the sin of the world; who by his death has destroyed death, and by his rising to life again has restored us to everlasting life. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name.
Sanctus et Benedictus Words: Traditional Music: Justin Philip Brooks, Tiffany Brooks The Prayer of Consecration (all kneel) Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and when we had sinned against you and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent your only Son into the world for our salvation. By the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary he became flesh and dwelt among us. In obedience to your will, he stretched out his arms upon the cross and offered himself once for all, that by his suffering and death we might be saved. By his resurrection he broke the bonds of death, trampling Hell and Satan under his feet. As our great high priest, he ascended to your right hand in glory, that we might come with confidence before the throne of grace.
On the night that he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it,* and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take, eat; this is my Body which is given for you: Do this in remembrance of me. Likewise, after supper, Jesus took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, Drink this, all of you; for this is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you, and for many, for the forgiveness of sins: Whenever you drink it, do this in remembrance of me. Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, and we offer you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Word and Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son Jesus Christ. Sanctify us also, that we may worthily receive this holy sacrament, and be made one body with him, so that he may dwell in us and we in him. And bring us with all your saints into the fullness of your heavenly kingdom, where we shall see our Lord face to face. All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ: By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and forever. Amen. The Lord s Prayer (in unison) BCP p. 336 Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. The Fraction Celebrant: Alleluia. Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia. Prayer of Humble Access (in unison) We do not presume to come to this your table, merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in your abundant and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under your table. But you are the same Lord, who always delights in showing mercy. Grant us, therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of your dear Son Jesus Christ and to drink his blood, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by his body, and our souls washed through his most precious blood, and that we may evermore dwell in him, and he in us. Amen.
Communion All baptized Christians who profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are welcome to receive Holy Communion in this church. All who do not wish to receive are still welcome to come forward to the altar rail. You may cross your arms across your chest as an indication you do not wish to receive, and a prayer of blessing will be offered for you instead. Gluten-free wafers are available. If you would like to receive a gluten-free wafer, simply ask the priest when he comes to you at the communion rail. Additional prayer is offered by our Altarside Prayer Team on either side of the altar, if you are in need of specific prayer, they would be happy to pray with you after you have received communion.
