2 ORDER OF WORSHIP CHRISTMAS EVE CHILDREN S SERVICE December 24th, 2018 Officiate Pastor Douglas Bergelin Lay Minister Tim Zindl & Larry Beyer Musician Ricki Budewitz Hannah Frank Acolyte Lucy Groeler Children s Bulletin & Basket There are special bulletins for children. If your child did not receive one, ask the usher. There is also a Children s Basket in the narthex that contains crayon and pencil packets along with children s books and Christian coloring books. We love having children in worship and sometimes they need additional stimulation to keep them interested. These items are there for your children to enjoy. Please return items to the basket at the end of the service. Members In the event that you or your family may need Pastoral care or comfort, please don t assume that the Pastor or church office has been contacted by the facility you have been admitted to. Due to certain policies, some places cannot share that you or a loved one has been admitted and are in need of comfort or counseling. In your time of need, please don t hesitate to contact the Pastor by calling his cell number or the church office, which are listed on the back of the bulletin or Grapevine. Visitors Visitors are asked to stop at the welcome center in the narthex where you will find information about our church, newsletters, devotional materials and other items we hope you will find helpful. Please be sure to sign the attendance book that you find in the pew and is passed around during the offering. AS WE GATHER The theme for this year s service is taken from the beloved children s carol Away in a Manger. The carol, often incorrectly attributed to Martin Luther, is one of the most frequently sung carols of Christmastide. So what is found in that manger? Is it a cute little baby, or is there more? Who is that baby? God s Son, our Savior, is He who lies in that manger and brings to us gifts of forgiveness, life, and salvation from our heavenly Father. Join us now as we, through song and verse, look for and discover the gifts that are found in the manger. These Christmas gifts are eternal and these gifts are for you! Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask Thee to stay Close by me forever and love me, I pray. Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care, And take us to heaven to live with Thee there. For Our Guests: Hymnal Key-LSB is the Maroon Hymnal, WOV is the smaller Blue Hymnal

INVOCATION & OPENING PRAYER SERVICE OF LIGHT Pastor: Jesus Christ is the light of the world, People: The light no darkness can overcome. Pastor: Stay with us, lord, for it is evening, People: And the day is almost over. Pastor: Let your light scatter the darkness People: And illumine your church.

We sing to God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit: You are worthy of being praised with pure voices forever. O Son of God, O Giver of life: the universe proclaims your glory. THANKSGIVING FOR LIGHT Pastor: Blessed are You, O Lord our God, King of the universe, who led Your people Israel by a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. Enlighten our darkness by the light of Your Christ; may His Word be a lamp to our feet and a light to our path; for You are merciful, and You love Your whole creation and we, Your creatures, glorify You, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. People: Amen. PSALMODY Psalm 24:1, 3 5 Reader: The earth is the LORD s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein. People: Who shall ascend the hill of the LORD? And who shall stand in His holy place? Reader: People: He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. He will receive blessing from the LORD and righteousness from the God of his salvation. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; As it was in the beginning, Is now, and will be forever. Amen. COLLECT Pastor: People: O God, You make us glad with the yearly remembrance of the birth of Your only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ. Grant that, as we joyfully receive Him as our Redeemer, we may with sure confidence behold Him when He comes to be our Judge; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
