4 LAST CALL FOR TRIPLETS If you would like to be involved in the current triplets scheme please Dale in the next few days so that I can include you in the groups of three that I will be setting up very soon. THANK YOU FOR PRAYING A big thank you to everyone who prayed for last weekend s church camp. We had an enjoyable and valuable time. We were spared problems with the weather as the threatened storm did not materialize! Thank God for all we shared and pray for Dale as he considers the feed back about hopes for the future he received from the groups. Thank God for all the efforts of so many people that went into making the camp run so smoothly. PRAYERS FOR THE 21 ST SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY Almighty God, in whose service lies perfect freedom: teach us to obey you with loving hearts and steadfast wills; through Jesus Christ our Lord. In these times of economic turmoil, help us all to build on the foundation that cannot be shaken, the Word of our Lord Jesus Christ: Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. [Matthew 7: 24 & 25] Pray for people who feel their lives are being shaken that they will come to Christ and find security in Him. Pray for the effects of the global credit crisis especially the effects on the poorest people in our world who are always the worst affected by any disaster (man made or natural). Pray that international plans to alleviate the worst of global poverty will not be delayed by the effects of the current crisis on the richer nations. Here at Shatin Church pray for the recent church camp to bear fruit that will last. Give thanks to God for all the good things we were able to enjoy on the camp. Pray too for the men s fellowship as it begins the third part of the men s fraternity The Great Adventure. Pray for the next series of triplets meetings and also for future growth in our network of small groups. Hear again the Words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the security He offers us (this time in The Message version): Matthew 7:24-25 (MsgB) These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on. If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock. Rain poured down, the river flooded, a tornado hit but nothing moved that house. It was fixed to the rock. 4
5 New Year Dear Parents KINGDOM KIDS We are beginning a new year in our children's programme in September with the topic "Virtues and Values". The programme on Sundays start at 10:00am with Worship in the hall before we go downstairs to G02 to learn more about Virtues and Values. The children meet in one large group on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month and in Small Groups on the 1st and 3rd Sundays. We need to know the ages of your children for small group allocation and your contact details (for obvious reasons). We would really appreciate you joining us in praying for God's covering on things as we start our programme. We would like the children (and everyone) to enjoy what it means to be truly surrendered to God in every part of themselves and to live the life that God has prepared for them. If you have any queries, please contact any of the Kingdom Kids leaders, our names are on the back of the bulletin. 7 UNCLASSIFIED Unclassified these items have been placed by members of Shatin Church but their inclusion does not mean they are endorsed by Shatin Church in any way. 10 TH ANNIVERSARY With the blessing, protection and grace of almighty God, Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui was inaugurated on 25 th October 1998 and became the 38 th Province of the Anglican Communion. A decade has passed and this year will be the 10 th Anniversary of the Inauguration of our Province. In order to celebrate this meaningful day and to give thanks to almighty God, a Thanksgiving Choral Eucharist will be held on Saturday 25 th October 2008 at 4pm at St. John s Cathedral. Congregations of SKH parishes/mission churches and members of SKH schools and welfare organisations are cordially invited to attend the Thanksgiving Eucharist. POWER OF LOVE CONFERENCE ENCE Caring Friends registered as a society in Hong Kong in June We investigate developmental homosexuality and its prevention, education the public about homosexuality and how we can approach this issue from a Christian perspective. Caring Friends holds an annual Fall conference about homosexuality. Last year we told people about Jesus but this year we want to give youth a chance to accept Jesus into their lives. So we are holding a youth rally on 18 th October at 7:30pm at Swatow Baptist Church at 56 Bute St., 6/F.,Mong Kok. Everyone is invited to this free event. As opposed to inviting non-christian friends to an evangelistic meeting, this will be mostly one man s life story/testimony and then an invitation to accept Christ for anyone who wants to. Our speaker, Tim Wilkins, is not a pushy person. Tim will talk about how he entered homosexuality for 12 years and then left. Later he married and now has three children. Tim has pastured two churches and has a website at: HELP WANTED! We need help with music, ushering and praying with youth. We need people to bring non- Christian youth to the event. If you can help, please call Gordon Truscott at or Analyn at Thanks so much. Youth who come to Christ should be able to manage their lives better and interact more in the community. ENGLISH TUTOR NEEDED English tutor needed. For 2 schoolchildren from Shatin Junior School, Year 4 and Year 5. They live at Prince of Wales Hospital Staff Quarters. I am currently tutoring them, but will leave for the Philippines soon, and I need someone to take over. Anyone interested or willing, please contact Misha at or at bcauseofhim@gmail.com. NO PARKING Please note that No Parking is allowed in the school grounds! Thank you! 7
8 WANTED: CHEAP / SIMPLE MOBILE PHONE (USED OK) Someone at the Vineyard Church, Cebu, the ministry Carlos Choi is involved with. Contact James on before Wednesday the 15 th. HELP NEEDED FOR TRADESHOW HONG KONG Help needed for Crossroads on Thursday, October 23rd: Willing volunteers to help pack up and move goods into trucks, starting from 5pm - 9pm, at Asia World-Expo (near HK Int'l Airport). Twice a year, the China Sourcing Fair is held at Asia World-Expo. Goods are displayed from HK, Thailand, India, Vietnam, Philippines, and other places around Asia. All goods are DISPLAY ONLY and cannot be bought or sold, but the makers often cannot afford to fly them back to their home country. So, instead of letting these brand new items be trashed, Crossroads volunteers will go to the site after the exhibition and collect all goods suitable for shipping or giving to those in need. This is a HUGE task, as the area covers about 10 stadiums, and they are PACKED with stalls! But it is LOADS OF FUN, and if you are willing to jump in for 4 hrs of CRAZY running around with walkie-talkies and cell phones, please contact Misha at or bcauseofhim@gmail.com. For more information about the China Sourcing Fair, visit: GIFTS.HTM?source=TSCCSF_GS_CSFlogo. Thank you very much and look forward to seeing you there! 2008 PASSION HONG KONG (16 TH OCTOBER) Tickets are available from Sam Fan sam_fan_theiet@yahoo.com.hk 8
