1 News of Hope Fall 2015 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. 3 John 4 Inside this issue: Administrator News 1 Meet Our Staff Learning Outside the Classroom Building Expansion & Fundraising What s New at Hope Glow in the Dark Week Spirit Week Jog-A-Thon Update Mark Your Calendars! Christmas Program December We are off and running for the school year! It has been a great start, and we are thankful for many things. Our God has promised that He will supply all our needs, and He continues to show His faithfulness to us over and over again. We have building needs He has met; we have had staff needs He has met, and we have spiritual needs He continues to meet daily. Our spiritual emphasis this year is taken from Matthew 15:8, which talks about how Jesus seeks our heart, not just our lips, to be involved in following Him. Hearts for Christ By Shane Bradley, Administrator Bake Day March 3 Grandparent s Day & Spring Banquet May 6 High School Graduation Many things fight for our attention and personal desires. As our desire for other things grows stronger, our desire for God can grow dimmer. Consequently, our faith becomes more lip service than an actual passion for God. Psalm 16:11 says, You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. This year we want to continue teaching a worldview where Jesus becomes the path of life and the source of fullness of joy. May our students develop hearts that are not just following rules but are passionate

2 Meet Our Staff Page 2 The Dangerous Prayer Brings Teachers to North Dakota We rejoice in knowing without a shadow of a doubt that the LORD specifically called us here. On May 7, 2015, we were on our way to a city-wide National Day of Prayer service in Mission Viejo, California. Lori asked the simple question, What should we pray for tonight? We prayed a dangerous prayer, LORD, where in the world would you have us serve? We continued to pray through God s Word. We began posting our resumes online through Association of Christian Schools International, ACSI, and experienced God working very quickly to test our willingness to go Lori & David Del Padre wherever. After numerous late nights spent completing multiple page applications plus Skype interviews and phone interviews with U.S. schools, it became apparent that North Dakota and Northern California were the top contenders. Honestly, moving to a cold climate seemed like a good reason to eliminate ND from our list, whereas, Northern California seemed doable. Then, in the stillness, we heard God loud and clear, I thought you prayed, wherever. Humbled, we continued to pray. When we SKYPE interviewed with HOPE Christian Academy, we asked, If you could describe HCA in one word, what would it be? In unison, they quickly replied, GROWING. One month after our dangerous prayer, we were nearing the end of our school year at Mission Viejo Christian School. MVCS, HCA, and the school in Northern California had all offered us contracts. We knew a decision was needed before our school year ended on June 18th. God is faithful, and His timing is always right. Saturday the 14th, our Bible study commentary of John 1 pointed out that believers will find HOPE in being faithful to God s call. It referenced the GROWth of believers in God s word. Sunday the 15th, the title of the pastor s message was HOPE for Mature Believers. The pastor expressed that as mature believers we must continue to GROW by going and by pouring into the younger believers. We had heard loud and clear! Confirmation! The message to us during those three days was GO to HOPE Christian Academy and work as mature Christian teachers to mentor and assist a GROWing school and staff. We were excited that God was in control. We knew He was in all of this! God is showing two Southern Californians that the best part of North Dakota is the genuinely kind, loving, warm-hearted, and hospitable people. We are in awe of the blue skies, the puffy white clouds, the wild wind, the unending fields of sunflowers, and the soon to be winter wonderland. We are pleased to call HOPE Christian Academy in Dickinson, ND our home for as long as the Lord would have us to serve in this community. We are overwhelmed by His goodness and love! We look forward to getting to know you.

3 Page 3 Meet Our Staff HCA welcomes new Preschool & Junior High Science teacher aboard Hello! My name is Deb Dohrmann. My husband, John, and I live with our two children, Christina and Daniel, in rural Taylor on our family farm. Christina is a second grader here at Hope Christian Academy, and Daniel is a Kindergartener at Taylor-Richardton Elementary School in Richardton. We are praying that Daniel progresses to the point of not needing a paraprofessional and be able to join his sister at Hope Christian Academy very soon. I am teaching preschool and junior high science as well as health to the seventh, eighth, and ninth graders here at HCA. I feel blessed to be able to teach in a Christian setting as keeping God in the forefront is so important, especially in the times in which we now live. I am also working to finish my Masters in Education through North Dakota State University online. Another thing I love doing is working with the Kindergarten-second graders in the Awana program at Evangelical Bible Church. I teach their Bible lesson on Wednesday evenings. In our free time, my husband and I are usually remodeling our home and increasing our hobby farm. As of now, we have one horse, twelve chickens, a dog, and a cat. In the future, we would love to add rabbits, goats and HCA Classroom Teachers Mr. Shane Bradley Administrator Junior High High School Deb Dohrmann Preschool Tanis Marschner Kindergarten 1st Grade P.M. 5 Page 5 Building & Fundraising Building Expansion Update Once again I write you this year with great joy in the Lord s abundant provisions to our Building Project! If you recall from last year at this time, we faced a final dollar amount of nearly $1.2 million to complete the project. We had hoped to raise two-thirds of that amount to finish the lower level for occupancy this fall, and God helped us do so! So here we find ourselves with thankful hearts this fall, enjoying the use of our building, and anticipating the near completion. Currently, our final figure stands at $425,000 thanks to the support of many donors and HCA families like yourself. This number will help us complete the gymnasium, (flooring, audio, acoustic package, etc.), second level classrooms, and the kitchen. It is our hope that we could raise this final amount to finish the last phase this coming winter and spring. We could then fully occupy the building by the summer/fall of We ask that you prayerfully consider a gift this year to assist us for project completion. Maybe you know of someone who would like to make a charitable contribution this year, or perhaps your employer may be considering avenues to give outside the norm. Materials are available at the school office providing info on HCA that may be of interest to potential donors. If the Lord has laid it on your heart to give this year, please bring or mail your donation to HCA, specifying Building Project. In Christ, Travis Toews, Chairman of Arise & Build Building Expansion Project Committee 2015 Fall Fundraising We continue to be in awe of how the Lord has provided for Hope Christian Academy for over 30 years. This fall, we were busy with three major fundraisers. The Lord blessed each of the events, and we surpassed our expectations and goals. Our 2 nd annual Pumpkins in the Patch brought in over $24,000 on a beautiful, almost 90 degree October day in ND! Our hope of engaging and providing fellowship for individuals and families in Dickinson and the surrounding areas was met with over 2,000 in attendance. We offer our thanks to every one of you who has supported Hope Christian Academy either And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together Event Goal Results Jog-A-Thon $40,000 $49,307 Golf Scramble $30,000 $30,399 Hope s Herd $6,000 TBD Bake Day #1 $7,700 $7,878 Bake Day #2 $7,500 TBD Spring Banquet $37,000 TBD Fundraising Total $128,200 $87,584

6 What s New at Hope Page 6 More Opportunities Available to Junior High & High School Students By Cain Kolar, Assistant Administrator As we begin the school year, we have much to be thankful for. The junior high and high school have been blessed with a few new teachers, allowing differentiated courses and (much to the students satisfaction) fewer video courses. David Del Padre has made the transition from a school in sunny California to teach our social studies courses. He might be getting some hints that he is not in California anymore, but we will still keep that a secret. Deb Dohrmann has assumed responsibility for teaching health and science to the energetic 7 th -9 th grade students. Pastor Sevier, Mr. Bradley, Irwin, Mr. Kolar and Ms. Rustad continue to offer Bible, Spanish and Health, Life Skills and Speech, Math, and English courses (respectively). In addition to more differentiated instruction, students and staff have been extremely blessed with offices and classrooms in the main building, which will certainly prove to be a blessing in the coming winter months. Every class from 7 th to 12 th grade is situated in their new classrooms, and the students have also been able to take advantage of the new computer lab quite frequently. Praise God for the precious gift of space! One of the highlights of the school year will be Hope Christian Academy s first graduating class. Courtney Bernhardt, Maddie Scammon, and Bryce Timmerman will pave the way for students to graduate from HCA in the spring (as Bryce himself says, Lord willing! ). The seniors are also paving the way for job shadowing and taking individualized courses online. Above all, our prayer is that our graduating students Former Hope Alumni crowned 2015 UND homecoming king Former Hope alumni, Luke Schields was crowned the University of North Dakota Homecoming King Monday, October 5. Luke is the son of Sharon Gegelmann & Mark Schields. Luke attended HCA from Kindergarten through grade 8 along with his sisters, Rebekah & Rachel. Sharon has been the HCA librarian for almost 20 years. Luke is a senior at UND and is double majoring in entrepreneurship and French. He has studied a semester in France and has travelled throughout Europe. He is involved with Honors Society, International Students Club, and French Club. Upcoming Christmas Program: The Loaned Manger In the small western town of Incarnation, Christmas is celebrated with grit, giddy-up, and gusto! But 1891 is the year that two big signs o progress could spell either trouble, or opportunity. Round up some rambunctious cowpokes, some forward-thinkin townsfolk, a manger on loan, and a lot of raucous yee-haw for the Wild West Christmas Adventures of The Loaned Manger!
