1 Founded in 1924 in the belief that there is more that binds us together than separates us in the worship of God. ALL SAINTS SUNDAY CHAPEL 8:30 A.M. C 2 SERVICE (COMMUNITY HALL) 10:00 A.M. SANCTUARY SERVICE 10:00 A.M. WELCOME Recognizing the wide welcome offered to all through Jesus Christ, Community Church opens its arms to all. We strive to offer Christ s wide welcome to all people, regardless of creed, age, race, or sexual identity. We invite you to join our congregation in worship and in membership, as we allow our lives to be shaped by the loving outreach of Christ.

2 *Please rise in body or spirit. Bold text indicates congregational participation. Please refrain from applause during worship until invited. Nursery care available during our C 2 and Sanctuary worship services. Our services are live-streamed via internet, capturing the chancel & the congregation and may appear on social media. Today we celebrate All Saints Day. The origin of this solemn remembrance of our departed members and friends in Christ dates to the 7 th century when Pope Boniface IV consecrated the Pantheon in Rome to heroes of the faith across the centuries. Today, while we acknowledge the loss we feel at the deaths of our friends and loved ones, we also claim our communion with them which is unending, and the promise that by God s grace we will share eternity with them. We proudly join in the fellowship of all Christ s followers, the saints. 3 UNISON PRAYER Eternal God, we find comfort in remembering your saints. Some we have known well; their lives have inspired and encouraged us. Others are unknown to us, but you have remembered them and honored them. We are grateful that all your saints are part of a faithful, beloved community. When we fail to live as your sanctified people, forgive us. Let your saints inspire us to demonstrate proof of your transforming grace. May our names, too, be listed among your great communion of saints. Amen. *WORDS OF ASSURANCE *GLORIA PATRI Dr. Robert T. Baggott *PASSING OF THE PEACE Rev. Holly H. Truax Cantor and Congregation One: 1 I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. 2 My soul makes its boast in the LORD; let the humble hear and be glad. 3 O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together. 4 I sought the LORD, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears. Cantor and Congregation One: 5 Look to him, and be radiant; so your faces shall never be ashamed. 7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. 8 O taste and see that the LORD is good; happy are those who take refuge in him. 9 O fear the LORD, you his holy ones, for those who fear him have no want. Cantor and Congregation One: 15 The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry. 17 When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears, and rescues them from all their troubles. 18 The LORD is near to the broken-hearted, and saves the crushed in spirit. 22 The LORD redeems the life of his servants; none of those who take refuge in him will be condemned. 4 *HYMN OF DEVOTION Amazing Grace/Just As I Am/Be Still My Soul Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found, was blind, but now I see. Through many dangers, toils, and snares, I have already come; Tis grace has brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home. Just as I am, Thou wilt receive, Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve; Because Thy promise in, without, O Lamb of God, I come, I come! Just as I am, Thy love unknown has broken every barrier down; Now to be Thine, yea Thine alone, O Lamb of God, I come, I come! Be still, my soul: For God is on your side; bear patiently the cross of grief or pain; Leave to your God to order and provide; in every change God faithful will remain. Be still, my soul: Your best eternal friend through thorny ways leads to a joyful end. Be still, my soul: The hour will soon be here when we shall be with God whom we adore, With disappointment gone, no grief nor fear, sorrow replaced with joy forevermore. Be still, my soul: When change and tears are past, all safe and blessed we shall meet at last. CALL TO SCRIPTURE One: Silence in us, O God, any voice but your own. All: May your Word be proclaimed and received here today. READING FROM THE EPISTLES Rev. David W. Johnson RESPONSE Hebrews 12:1-2, 28 1Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God. 28Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us give thanks, by which we offer to God an acceptable worship with reverence and awe. One: Hear what the Spirit is saying to the church. All: Thanks be to God! ANTHEM Saints Bound for Heaven Chancel Choir arr. He will dwell with them; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them; 4he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away. 5 And the one who was seated on the throne said, See, I am making all things new. Michael Joseph serves with Justapaz and the Cafepaz Peace Studies Center. In January of last year over 10,000 former Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia guerrilla fighters disarmed and demobilized as a result of the December 2016 peace accord. Thus began a long and challenging reentry process for many of them who had been part of the rebel army for most of their lives. The Cafepaz Peace Studies Center in Colombia has been leading workshops on conflict transformation and restorative justice that bring together both former FARC guerrilla combatants and civilian leaders in the hopes of helping facilitate a smooth reentry process for both the ex-combatants and the civilian community they are now joining. Cafepaz reports, Seeing former FARC combatants and civilians who were victims of the armed conflict doing joint dramatizations and peacefully discussing conflict is powerful and rewarding! Prayer: Loving God, today we pray for the country of Colombia and our Global Ministries partners there. Laying down weapons of war after fifty years of internal armed conflict is not easy. But you commanded us to love our neighbors as ourselves, and the people of Colombia are attempting to do just that through a comprehensive peace accord, signed in Today we pray for partner churches located in the regions where thousands of former guerrilla combatants are reentering civilian life. Give them courage and knowledge to best know how to minister in these complex times. Amen.
