2 UNISON PRAYER OF INVOCATION AND THE LORD S PRAYER O God, ever so near, we gather as witnesses to your promise that if we seek you with all our hearts, we will find you. Let your presence be known among us this day. Hear the confessions of our mouths and the yearnings of our hearts. Help us to change the narrowness of our vision and the pettiness of our living. Make us new again with your holy grace. Grant us the maturity to accept your many gifts in true humility and to use them with faithfulness. Grant to us your Spirit that our worship may have integrity and energy. May your abiding Love manifest through our actions and be the catalyst that draws others to you. We praise and give thanks to you in Jesus name as we pray the prayer he gave us. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. A TIME FOR CONFESSION AND RECONCILIATION UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION Mother/Father God, we have sinned against you and one another. We have not cared for one another as you commanded. We continue to project our own brokenness onto our brothers and sisters as we focus on their shortcomings, judging that which is not to our liking. We place unrealistic expectations upon ourselves and one another. As we come to know that perfection is yours alone, we assume a false humility that negates the gifts you have bestowed upon us for the building up of your kin dom. And yet, we expect others to do that which we are unwilling to do. We have forgotten who we are to you and to one another. Forgive our faults and restore us to at-one-ment. Help us to take responsibility for the gifts you gave us to heal the wounds inflicted upon your Body. May we be of One Spirit, and united in our mission. GOSPEL READING Luke 7:1-10 After Jesus had finished all his sayings in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum. A centurion there had a slave whom he valued highly, and who was ill and close to death. When he heard about Jesus, he sent some Jewish elders to him, asking him to come and heal his slave. When they came to Jesus, they appealed to him earnestly, saying, He is worthy of having you do this for him, for he loves our people, and it is he who built our synagogue for us. And Jesus went with them, but when he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to say to him, Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; therefore I did not presume to come to you. But only speak the word, and let my servant be healed. For I also am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to one, Go, and he goes, and to another, Come, and he comes, and to my slave, Do this, and the slave does it. When Jesus heard this he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd that followed him, he said, I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith. When those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the slave in good health.
