1 Founded in 1924 in the belief that there is more that binds us together than separates us in the worship of God BLUEGRASS SUNDAY SANCTUARY SERVICE 10:00 A.M. We strive to offer Christ s wide welcome to all people, regardless of creed, age, race, or sexual identity. We invite you to join our congregation in worship and in membership, as we allow our lives to be shaped by the loving outreach of Christ.

Baggott *OPENING SONG (CONGREGATION) I ll Fly Away Blue Cypress Bluegrass Band Some glad morning when this life is over, I ll fly away; To that home on God s celestial shore, I ll fly away. Refrain: I ll fly away, O glory, I ll fly away. When I die, Hallelujah, bye and bye, I ll fly away. When the shadows of this life are gone, I ll fly away; Like a bird from prison bars has flown, I ll fly away. Refrain Just a few more weary days and then, I ll fly away; To a land where joy shall never end, I ll fly away. Refrain *LITANY Bruce Metcalfe People of God, let us gather in joy and in faith. We will worship the God who calls to each of us and bids us come. People of God, look into your neighbors faces; find brothers and sisters in this community of kindred hearts. We find God s shining spirit alive among us here; drawing us all together. People of God, may a harmony of hope ring out in our midst to remind us of God s lasting and gracious love. Let us pray. *UNISON PRAYER In your presence, O God, we find our gladness. As your faithful people, we proclaim your goodness. Through every season, across every space, in familiar ways and in new ways, you come to us. Be near to us as we sing, and pray, and reflect today. Confirm our place in your heart and urge us to follow Christ s path, confidently and caringly. Amen. *PASSING OF THE PEACE Rev. David W. Johnson CHILDREN S MOMENT Dueling Banjos Dr. Robert T. 3 MUSICAL OFFERING The Little White Church Blue Cypress Bluegrass Band ANTIPHONAL READING ATTENDING TO GOD S WORD Andrew Galuska Psalm 146: Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD, O my soul! 2 I will praise the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God all my life long. 3 Do not put your trust in princes, in mortals, in whom there is no help. 4 When their breath departs, they return to the earth; on that very day their plans perish. 5 Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD their God, 6 who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; who keeps faith forever; 7 who executes justice for the oppressed; who gives food to the hungry. The LORD sets the prisoners free; 8 the LORD opens the eyes of the blind. The LORD lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous. 9 The LORD watches over the strangers; he upholds the orphan and the widow, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin. 10 The Lord will reign forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the Lord! MUSICAL OFFERING Working on a Building Blue Cypress Bluegrass Band THE GOSPEL LESSON Silence in us, O God, any voice but your own. May your Word be proclaimed and received here today. Rev. David W. Johnson Luke 9: Now about eight days after these sayings Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. 29 And while he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white. 30 Suddenly they saw two men, Moses and Elijah, talking to him. 31 They appeared in glory and were speaking of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. 32 Now Peter and his companions were weighed down with sleep; but since they had stayed awake, they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. 33 Just as they were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah not knowing what he said. 34 While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were terrified as they entered the cloud. 35 Then from the cloud came a voice that said, This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him! RESPONSE Hear what the Spirit is saying to the church. Thanks be to God! MUSICAL OFFERING The Old Rugged Cross Blue Cypress Bluegrass Band Crying Holy SERMON Foggy Mountain Moment Dr. Robert T. Baggott Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. Luke 9:28b 3

O Lord, show us your mercy. And grant us your salvation. O God, make clean our hearts within us. And take not your Holy Spirit from us. MUSICAL CALL TO PRAYER Just a Closer Walk With Thee Blue Cypress Bluegrass Band Dr. Casey G. Baggott Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors, And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. PRAYER OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD S PRAYER THE SENDING FORTH *CLOSING SONG (CONGREGATION) Will the Circle be Unbroken Blue Cypress Bluegrass Band *BLESSING I was standing by my window on a cold and cloudy day, When I saw that hearse come rolling for to carry my mother away.
