1 Trinity Lueran Church 5005 I-40 West Amarillo, Texas Change Service Requested Non Profit Organization U.S. Postage Paid Amarillo, Texas Permit No. 307 March 2016 P a s t o r H e s s e - L i v i n g L e n t a n d C e l e b r a t i n g E a s t e r As we move rough e season of Lent rough e rest of March, we world around us will go directly to e celebration of Easter. Even many Christian churches will zip right past e observances of Holy Thursday and Good Friday. For some people and churches, Easter is just anoer Sunday will little or no festivities. At Trinity, our eme for e season of Lent has been Living Lent as Resurrection People Easter is not just anoer Sunday. I nside is i ss ue: It wasn t just anoer ordinary Sunday on at first Easter eier. St. Luke tells us, On e first day of e week, at early dawn, ey came to e tomb. (Luke 24:1) For e women who had seen and were still mourning e dea of Jesus, it was no ordinary Sunday. For em, at Sunday was a grim, inescapable reminder of e paradise at had been hoped for and now lost in e dea of Jesus. For em it was more an just e dea of a loved one or a friend. Now ey were going to carry out all painful and grim responsibilities at came wi is loss. They were going back to e tomb to revisit e defeat, e dea of eir hopes and dreams and ey were going to bury em properly. Family Life Ministry 2 Elders 3 School News 4-5 Bd. Of Child Care 6 March 2016 Sunday Services At Trinity 8:00 A.M.,10:30 A.M. & 6:00 P.M. Sunday School & Bible Class 9:20 A.M. You are Cordially Invited to Attend Rev. Brian Hesse, Senior Pastor Charessa Koontz, Director of You & Family Ministry Mr. Rick Ryan, Principal Mrs. Meliea Cox, Child Care Director Easter is a celebration of Paradise restored. Easter is first about e celebration of e resurrection of Jesus Christ. Second, it is e celebration of our own promised resurrection. Third it is e celebration of our paradise restored. For people who have lived e Lenten journey, Easter is a welcome awakening to once again e dreams of a paradise restored, a paradise no longer mired in e sinful reflections common roughout Lent. There is a story about Winston Churchill who once went to speak at Harrow School in London. In his advanced years he shuffled to e podium, moving slowly. He got to e podium and gave e following speech. Never, never, never, ever give up! Churchill en left e stage, and went and sat down. This is one of e shortest speeches ever recorded. Churchill s speech from beginning to end captures what it means to live as Easter people. Wi Jesus Christ our perfect paradise is restored and awaiting e day of His return and triumphant fulfillment. Only rough e cross of Christ, rough His blood, His dea and His resurrection do we have victory and live as resurrection people. Never, never, never ever give up as resurrection people. As Lent comes to a close and we celebrate anoer Easter, may your joy Easter joy spill into e everyday living as e resurrection bound people of God. There is a commitment to Child Development and Christian Education The Body of Christ Wins Our Local Communities Win The Kingdom of God Wins Please join us as we seek e Lord s guidance and discernment in is process. In His Service, Pastor Brian Hesse Charessa Koontz, Family Life Minister Elders - Living Lent Our Lenten series is year is Living Lent- As People of e Resurrection. As we complete is series and look to e Glorious day of Resurrection, we might Ponder why did God send his Son for our salvation. The following is from Martin Luer s Lectures on Galatians 3:3 The phrase 'for us.' Therefore we should not imagine Christ as an innocent and private person who is holy and righteous only for himself...it is, of course, true at Christ is e purest of persons; but is is not e place to stop. For you do not yet have Christ, even ough you know at He is God and man. You truly have Him only when you believe at is altogeer pure and innocent Person has been granted to you by e Faer as your High Priest and Redeemer, yes, as your Slave. Putting off His innocence and holiness and putting on your sinful person, He bore your sin, dea, and curse; He became a sacrifice and a curse for you, in order us to set you free from e curse of e Law. "You see, en, wi what a completely apostolic spirit Paul treats is serious argument about e blessing and e curse, when he not only subjects Christ to e curse but even says at He became a curse. Thus he calls Him 'sin' in II Corinians 5:21, when he says: 'For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin. Alough ese statements could be correctly expounded by saying at Christ became a 'curse,' at is, a sacrifice for e curse, or 'sin,' at is, a sacrifice for sin; nevereless, it is more pleasing if e precise meaning of e terms is preserved for e sake of greater emphasis. For when a sinner really comes to a knowledge of himself, he feels himself to be a sinner not only concretely or adjectivally but abstractly and substantively. That is, he seems to himself to be not only miserable but misery itself; not only a sinner, and an accursed one, but sin and e curse itself. Thus in Latin, when we want a strong way to say at someone is a criminal, we call him a 'crime.' It is someing awful to bear sin, e wra of God, e curse, and dea. Therefore a man who feels ese ings in earnest really becomes sin, dea, and e curse itself." Jesus becomes sin for us. He is labeled sin or sinner for e purpose of granting our salvation. Luer captures and articulates what it means at Jesus is for us. The Board of Elders wish to ank e Cox Family for e new electronic sign completed recently. A dedication service is being planned for is addition to our facilities. Also e Board wanted to Thank Sara Black and Misty Walker for eir work in restarting e Trinity Choir. The Board of Elders will serve e Lenten meal March 9 wi proceeds going to support e Choir. Please ank em for efforts. The Elders are asking each member to update eir contact information at is contained in e church directory. This contact information is constantly changing as we change phone numbers and addresses. Please write your changes on e back of e attendance card or call or e church office wi any changes you wish to make in is information.
