2 We commit to go out and share the transforming Gospel of Jesus Christ, so that people may know life in all its fullness. Dear Colleagues, The variety of opportunities highlighted in this brochure is intended to enable different people in different situations to live out our diocesan vision for the sake of the Kingdom of God and the well-being of the Body of Christ. Continuing to develop our skills and ministries is a responsibility laid on all of us as we seek to cherish and nurture the gifts we have been given as disciples of Jesus Christ and ministers of the Gospel. Therefore, I am delighted to commend the rich range of events included in the following pages. Working in partnership with others, the Mission and Ministry Department have sought to provide opportunities that cater for a wide variety of ministry needs and contexts. There is much here to encourage and stimulate us in our vocation and ministry as we live out our commitment to Leadership-Committed to transformation, and only ever to the glory of God. This comes with my prayers and thanksgivings for the ministry we share. HOW TO USE THIS BROCHURE The events in this brochure are organised by the department and form a part of what is created in response to the LIFE vision. Please look out for reminders, updates and new opportunities in the monthly Developing Your Ministry . Each event is coded to indicate who may attend. Perhaps the most challenging times to be Christian in the midst of life is when hard, painful and unfair things happen and people need to ask the question why? It is moments like these when Christian faith can speak most deeply and meaningfully into human life and struggles. The traditional name for this important aspect of Christian teaching and sharing is Apologetics. The day will seek to strengthen our ability to engage with hard and questions. Core modules will be taught with the full group together over four Saturdays and a residential. Informal discussions based around material in other modules will take place in between, with dates to be decided between each group and their local mentor. We are expecting this to be of interest to teams beginning to explore a Fresh Expression in their local context; deanery/benefice groups exploring creative mission and potential Fresh Expression; as well as individuals exploring God s calling as it relates to creative approaches to mission. Free Taster Day on Saturday 24 Nov 18. Ask for details or simply book. Cost: 180 or 150 if three or more from a Fresh Expression or benefice book. Venues: Saturdays: Gloucester Farmers Club, GL2 9RG. Residential: Holland House, Main Street, Cropthorne, WR10 3NB MISSION SHAPED INTRO A L Mission Shaped Intro is a short course exploring contemporary missional thinking and practice. It is intended for people who are relatively new to thinking about these questions and who would find it helpful to explore why churches need different priorities in our changing culture and context, and what this might mean locally. It is complemented by the longer Mission Shaped Ministry course which goes deeper into these questions. The course is particularly appropriate for local groups, either deanery, benefice, individual churches or ecumenical. It is offered here in partnership with Cate Williams who will provide support in planning, and teach two sessions. It can also be run independently, contact Cate for more information and the link to downloads. 8 Quiet Day for the parishes around Tidenham Roaring Rugby Pauntley Primary School Fes vall PIONEER VISITS Pioneer visits will be of interest to lay and ordained leaders who are exploring creative ministry and would value an opportunity to explore a particular theme as expressed within pioneering. To enable us to be responsive to developing areas of interest visits tend to be arranged at a shorter timescale than allows for inclusion in this brochure. This entry is to encourage you to look out for visits as they are advertised in the Developing Your Ministry mailing. Past visits have included the Upper Room, Cirencester; Roots Café, Gloucester; and the Grace Network, Stroud; as well as occasional excursions beyond the Diocesan boundaries where a project is of particular interest. THE LANGUAGE OF TEARS THEIR GIFT, MYSTERY AND MEANING W O 7pm pm In the history of the church and across many cultures, tears have been received seriously as a sign of God s presence, as a way of praying, as a guide in life s journey and to making wise choices. By contrast society and church today find them embarrassing and we hide them. Drawing on themes from his latest book The Language of Tears, David Runcorn will explore the lost gift, mystery and meaning of tears. QUIET DAYS T O 2018 T F 2019 T J am - 4pm Our termly Quiet Days are for anyone involved with parish ministry; we particularly encourage clergy to depart from their usual busyness to have some quality time for themselves with God. These days are guided but do allow time for reflection and to listen for God as our souls are shaped and renewed. They are vital for re-energising and re-focusing, and help to keep the balance in life between being and doing. Led by officers from the Department of Mission and Ministry. TEACHER OF THE FAITH ANNUAL READER S DAY S S 10am pm A day for Readers and their incumbents. We will be particularly exploring the shared ministry of being teachers of the faith. Our keynote speaker is Charles Read, Deputy Warden and Reader Training Coordinator in Norwich Diocese. Charles is a passionate supporter of Reader ministry and has a particular vision for the ministry of Readers in sharing and communicating the faith.
