2 Mission & Impact Statements Mission Youth for Christ reaches young people everywhere, working together with the local church and other like minded partners to raise up lifelong followers of Jesus who lead by their godliness in lifestyle, devotion to the word of God and prayer, passion for sharing the love of Christ and commitment to social involvement. Background Since 1944, Youth for Christ has had a distinctive history of youth evangelism. During World War II, large youth rallies spread throughout Canada, England, and America. The need to coordinate this movement led to the organization of Youth for Christ. Dr. Billy Graham was our first full-time staff evangelist. Sensitive to the changing times, Youth for Christ's ministry methodology turned to bible clubs in the late 50's. In the 1960's, Campus Life ministries to junior and senior high students became the thrust of Youth for Christ. Several new ministry models were developed, including Youth Guidance to reach those institutionalized, Teen Parents to mentor and equip young mothers to know that God has hope and purpose for them and their baby, and City Life to holistically reach and empower young people in our major urban communities. Nashville Youth for Christ was formed in 1976 to begin a ministry of service to the youth of Nashville and surrounding areas and Counties. Today we are active in numerous schools with our Campus Life and Parent Life programs in Williamson, Davidson and Sumner Counties, several juvenile detention centers, and has several City Life project areas in and around Nashville. Nashville Youth for Christ is a chartered member of Youth for Christ USA, one of over 130 chapters with Youth for Christ representation. Nashville Youth For Christ is part of the Association of Churches, along with the other YFC chapters and the host, YFC USA. Throughout its history, Youth for Christ has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to youth evangelism and Biblical Christianity. We creatively communicate the Gospel message of hope, grace, and love in order to reach every young person - one at a time. In 2019 Youth for Christ chapters celebrate our 75th year as an organization. Over the last 75 years, Youth For Christ has remained committed to boldly sharing the message of the Gospel. We remember the work God has done over the years with thankfulness, and these memories compel us to dream even bigger for the future. Impact Top accomplishments from the past year: 1) We impact over 300 students weekly in 22 schools, 50+ teen parentsand serve in 3 detention centers on a weekly basis. 2) YFC gave two students from our programs a $1,000. college scholarships to start college. 3) Over 62 decisions for Christ were made in ) The ministry of Nashville Youth For Christ has impacted over 3,000 teens this year. We want to thank you for your prayers and support! Needs 1) Broaden our Widespread Prayer for each ministry site, student, volunteer and staff thru our social media portals. 2) Additional volunteers from Churches, Universities, social agencies, community partners and other non profits 3) Provision of additional funds to aggressively grow the ministry in conjunction with the national goals of YFC USA 4) Additional staff and resources to further our outreach to additional schools and sites. 5) Continued Godly governance from our current Board of Directors and add additional board members. 3 Education / Educational Services Areas of Service Areas Served TN - Davidson TN - Williamson TN - Rutherford All areas of Davidson, Williamson, Rutherford and Sumner Counties are served by this Youth For Christ ministry chapter and its programs and partners. Board Chair Statement 2017/2018 was an amazing year for Youth for Christ Nashville. We watched God move in ways that on many occasions caused us to stand still and know that He is God! We watched the lives of young men and women literally transform in front of us as their minds were transformed by the Word of God. All of the local YFC chapters have been challenged by its national organization (Youth for Christ USA) to increase the number of youth ministered to by five times. This is a huge undertaking that Nashville Youth for Christ takes very seriously and will actively pursue donors and additional sites to meet this challenge. CEO Statement On the school campus... in the community... with the Church. (On the school campus) - Our Campus Life ministry provides a safe place of acceptance where students can experience healthy relationships and learn to make good choices, establishing a solid foundation for life while they positively impact their school. All of our character classes help students cope with the pressures and struggles in life and offer hope and encouragement to them and their families. (In the community) - Youth for Christ has a commitment to social involvement with its ministries such as Teen Parents, City Life, and Juvenile Justice. Trained adult mentors connect with students to help them establish good life skills as well as giving them an opportunity to give back to their community. (With the Church) - Youth for Christ is an inter-denominational ministry that intentionally works together with local churches, like-minded ministries, and social agencies to provide sustainable and fruitful ministry. We are open to all youth, regardless of their beliefs, but really have a heart for "at-risk" students which many other non profits do not reach. We see the hope and potential in every student. 3
4 Programs Programs Campus Life Description Campus Life is an action-oriented program aimed at middle school and high school students. It allows young people to come together in weekly meetings and discuss life, and how to deal with today's obstacles and struggles in a positive, Christian way. Our staff and volunteers encourage them to achieve a "balanced life" through the physical, mental, social, and spiritual aspects of life, as well as challenging them to think through their values, ethics, and beliefs. We present the teachings of Jesus Christ, emphasizing the aspect of relationship between Him and ourselves, and how we are to relate to each other. In a society where teens will have a better than 50% chance of having reduced support in these areas because of divorce, one-parent family, or not being churched on a regular basis; Campus Life combines healthy relationships with creative programs to help teens make good choices, establish a solid foundation for life, and positively impact their schools for Christ. Budget Category Religion, General/Other Christianity Population Served Adolescents Only (13-19 years),, Parent/Teen Life Description Our local Parent/Teen Life program, as part of national Youth for Christ Teen Parents program, started locally in 1993 to support young women between the ages of 13 and 20 who are pregnant or have just had their baby. This program provides a support group for the teen who are referred to YFC by their school, local church, or social service agency. The young lady will receive assistance for physical needs, but also will receive encouragement, counsel, and instruction for their emotional, spiritual, social, and mental needs as well. In the support group where the Mom will benefit from positive peer relationships, the Teen Mom is often matched with a caring mentor as well. The Program Coordinator and mentors will also discuss the teachings of Jesus Christ, and that He gives purpose and hope for both Mom and her baby. This helps them make good choices establishing a solid foundation in the lives of both Mom and baby. Budget Category Population Served Religion, General/Other Christianity Females, Families, 4
5 City Life Description City Life is a more holistic ministry model that helps young people in urban communities through teaching life skills, building relationships with caring adult role model "mentors", providing opportunities for positive group experiences, a chance to give back to their community through social involvement, and opportunities to discuss the teachings of Jesus Christ and its relevance to their lives. In areas where teens often experience minimal support economically, spiritually, and where family role models are often absent, City Life will combat the allure of the gang by providing positive peer support to become productive citizens of the community. Budget Category Population Served Religion, General/Other Christianity At-Risk Populations, Minorities, Juvenile Justice Description Through the Juvenile Justice Ministry, YFC is working in six detention centers in Nashville which is making a significant difference in the young adult lives being served. We coach, counsel, advise, and love these individuals to let them know that they can have hope and a future outside of life of crime. Budget 34,000 Category Population Served Examples of Program Success Religion, General/Other Christianity Offenders/Ex-Offenders, Adolescents Only (13-19 years), We have seen a substantial reduction in recidivism rates with the students we mentor. Our Juvenile Justice Director contacts each student after their release from detention center. Our goal is to help them finish their education or enter a trade, find employment and discipline their lives so that they can reenter society and succeed. We maintain a relationship with these students as long as they will allow us to and several have become volunteers for Youth for Christ and other ministries.
