Darkness was thick like a fog. You cannot discern the source of a sound. It is so dark that you cannot see your hand right in front of your face. It is a little scary. Then someone strikes a match or turns on a flashlight. What a relief. The darkness begins to go away and tries to hide in corners and shadows which have not been touched by the light. Have you ever felt darkness inside of you? Some have described it like depression or the absence of hope or joy. Have you ever felt the heaviness of despair or the sadness of loss? If you have, then you know what it would be like to have a spark of light, just a tiny spark that would be inside you. Your mind would be alive again. Your thoughts would turn to encouragement and joy. Your face would reflect peace and your body would feel healthy inside. I dare you to take a trip inside your body and see if you can find that little light shining in the distance. Go toward it. Do you notice that the closer you get to the light the brighter it becomes? When you are standing right beside it all the darkness is gone and the warmth brings joy and peace. What would happen if you could merge with the light? What would happen if the light of your life could become one with the light of Jesus? When you put two candles together the light increases and darkness flees. 2 (Continued from Page 1) The same thing happens inside us when we welcome the Light of the world to become one with our light. Remember what it is like on a bright sunny day? You can t find the darkness anywhere. When the Divine Energy merges with our energy it produces a life that is bright, joyful, and radiant. Darkness cannot remain present. It goes away. Imagine what it would be like to walk into a meeting or your workplace or even your home with that kind of energy coming from inside you. You would glow with the radiance of Jesus Himself. YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD because your life has become one with the TRUE LIGHT THAT HAS COME INTO THE WORLD. As hard as it tries, the darkness cannot put it out. The energy inside you does not have to be conserved. It is eternal and will never run out. So discover your light inside of you and let it shine. Draw close to it every day. Discover what it is like to live in the presence of Jesus all the time. THIS LITTLE LIGHT OF MINE, I M GONNA LET IT SHINE, LET IT SHINE, LET IT SHINE. -Pastor Bob SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES BIBLE STUDY Beginning July 8 and continuing each Tuesday evening through August. We will be studying the Letter of James. Anyone is welcome to attend. Pastor Bob will be leading the study. Use any Bible translation that you prefer. Each session will begin at 7:00 p.m. and last about one hour. PERSONAL GROWTH Beginning July 10 and continuing each Thursday evening through August, Pastor Bob will facilitate a group around THE POWER OF NOW, by Eckhart Tolle. This is the third group that has shared this growth experience. You will learn much about yourself and how to develop your spirituality. You will experience the presence of God in yourself, learn to meditate, and transform your relationships with others. The group is limited to 7 people. It will fill up fast. If you want to attend, call Pastor Bob at and indicate your desire to participate. You will need to purchase your own book or borrow a copy from someone who has gone through this experience New Women s Wednesday Study Please join us this summer on June 25 th, July 9 th, July 23 rd, August 6 th, and August 20 th as we explore Joyce Meyer s Battlefield of the Mind. We will meet at 5:00pm on each of these Wednesdays in the Sunday school room at the top of the steps. You have the option to simply come and watch the DVD s to let bestselling author Joyce Meyer teach you how to overcome negative thoughts and become responsible for your own joy or add on by reading through her book to gain more insight. We will have a discussion period at the end of each session to discuss the topic at hand. If you are interested in reading through the book, you can either purchase the book on your own or contact Cherie Moore by June 16 th to order one for you to be picked up at Sunday s June 22 nd church service. 3 Sprint to the Finish As graduations draw closer, seniors of all schools get antsy to walk across the stage and receive their diplomas with proud relatives beaming. So too, is the anticipation of the June opening of the Simpson Center. LV Killen, III, and Ron Fraser, announced at both Sunday services that Billy Webb and his band of volunteer workers could use some last minute financial gifts to cross the goal line. If you d like to make a contribution small or large, please take one or more of the ornaments/envelopes from the trees in the Narthex or around the church and donate what you desire to helping them open the doors on time. Thank you for your support and please remember to write your name or envelope number for your tax records. Whatcoat United Methodist Men The Simpson Center building fund campaign got off to a wonderful start as there was a doubling of participants from the week of May 11 th till the week of May 18 th. You may have donated a box of floor tiles, or a can of paint, or even a classroom door. Whatever you chose to do, it is great appreciated as well as the labor volunteered by church members. Glancing through the glass windows from the sidewalk, the progress is readily apparent. Thank you Billy Webb for your leadership and inspiration to see this project going as well as anticipated. June 1st, 2014 is the next Methodist Men s breakfast. We meet at 0730 before church in the Fellowship Hall, discuss future activities, and have a devotional speaker. If you would like to be included in this fellowship, merely show up. All men of Whatcoat church are considered to be members. Ron Fraser wants to remind parents with children who are planning to attend Camp Pecometh this summer that the letters of camperships requests should be due by our last meeting on June 2 nd, Please contact either Ron Fraser or LV Killen, treasurer, prior to that date so your child will be included. 4 The Book Thief We will be showing the movie The Book Thief at the home of Kris Knarr on Sunday evening, June 22nd at 7:00p.m.. The movie is based on the book by the same title about a young girl growing up in Nazi Germany during WWII and the events of her life. The book is wri en by the angel of death who takes souls to heaven after death. The story gives hope for the human race as it discusses the efforts of her family and others to stop the insanity. We will have light snacks and beverages. Feel free to bring something. Questions? Call Linda England at Biblical History I have given a collection of the magazine Biblical Archaeology Review, from 1990 to the current issue, to our church library. They are published every two months. I still receive it, and will place them in the library as they come. The magazine covers stories from the Old and new Testament that have been supported by archaeological digs. Frequently there is debate over its reality or date in history. The Jan/Feb issue includes a list of upcoming summer digs and what they are looking for. Some of the article subjects have been about Solomon s palace, When more Jews became jesus followers, finding Sodom, Josephus and Jeremiah-history and rophecy; did the Esseneas write the Dead Sea Scrolls and is the bone box that was discovered, authenic ( James, son of Jose[ph, brother of Jesus ). The magazines have a lot of pictures and are quite readable. Give it a try. Stop by the church library and check them out! 5 Missions and Outreach Volunteer Opportunity: We are seeking people (teenagers and adults) to assist with building a house through Habitat for Humanity. We have a work day scheduled for June 21. No experience necessary just a servants heart! If you are interested please contact Kent Gladish at Please keep your items coming in monthly for Opera on Christmas Child and place in basket in narthex. There will be some cra ing days this summer. Thanks for all of your con nued support and generosity! Blessings and love to all! Whatcoat Women for Christ The Whatcoat Women have been busy the month of May. On Saturday May 3rd several ladies planted the pink petunias you see in the flower beds around the church. With all the help, the flowers were planted in no time at all! Thank you to the ladies that took time out of their Saturday to help. Saturday May 10th was our annual Mother's Day Tea where we celebrated mothers, daughters, "princesses" and even a "prince". We would like to thank Tom, Drew & Aaron for helping to set up the tables and all the table hostesses for helping to make the afternoon wonderful. Our last meeting for the spring will be June 23rd at 6:30pm. Please keep your eyes peeled for the fun we are planning during the summer. 5

He was 90 years old and lived with Pat & Penney (Bailey) Broomell. We pray that Harold s family will be comforted with their wonderful memories. 7
