5 HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE Welcome to St. Mark s! We are so excited to have you join us on Sunday mornings for time in God s Word. In this guide you will notice several options and categories for classes. 6 Leaders Andy Bates Andy is the Director of Programming for Worldwide KFUO, the Broadcast Ministry of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Andy earned a Bachelor of Arts in communication/ theatre with a minor in theology, Master of Arts in Religion and Director of Christian Education certificate at Concordia University Chicago. He has served in parish education, youth and family ministry, outdoor ministry and higher education. Andy and his wife, Lauren, also a D.C.E., are the proud parents of one son. Kim Becker Kim has been a member at St. Mark s since She has worked as part of the St. Mark s staff and through the years volunteered in many ministries in a variety of ways. We are so grateful for her gifts of teaching and leading in Women s Ministry. Kim and her husband Greg have one adult daughter. Brian & Laura Falls Brian is a D.C.E. and a Care Coordinator/Counselor for youth. Laura Falls is a Music Education Major and St. Mark's Worship Team Leader. Laura is also a homeschool teacher to Sawyer and Sadie. They love spending time outdoors with their family. Pastor Dar Karsten Pastor Dar received his Master of Divinity from Concordia University St. Louis. He served as St. Mark s lead pastor for over 34 years. He is currently sharing God s Word in the Branson, Mis-souri area. Pastor Dar and his wife Jan have three children, and eight grandchildren. Pastor Bob Liebmann Pastor Bob is a 1999 graduate from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, and currently serves St. Mark's as our Pastor. Pastor Bob and Jeannine, have three sons. 6

Dates: February 3, 10 Time: 10:45 a.m. Location: Conference Room Leader: Pastor Bob Liebmann Road to Coronation Crossways Study A vivid portrait of Jesus the Servant King who welcomed outcasts as family, touched and raised the dead, performed miracles that made astonishing theological statements, and confounded the spiritual authorities of His day. Vindicated in the resurrection and enthroned in the ascension, Jesus calls us to listen, believe, and follow. Dates: March 10 - April 14 Time: 8:00 a.m. & 10:30 a.m. Location: Room 105 Leader: Pastor Dar Karsten Section 200: Books of the Bible Blessed is the Man Psalms of Lament Men, take this journey together through Blessed Is the Man to discover how Christ your Savior builds your character and integrity through His Word. You will read real stories from other men sharing how they deal with the realities of daily life and the challenges and opportunities they face. This study helps you live out the greatest adventure every man is given: a life rooted in God s Word and anchored in blessings of Christ. Dates: March 10 - April 14 Time: 10:30 a.m. Location: Conference Room Leader: Andy Bates Section 300: Church History One God, many gods You have heard of many of these religions, but what do they practice? Join as we dig deeper with the goal of identifying the central teachings of each and providing tools for Christians who encounter people of other faiths in their daily lives. (Basic Teachings of Mormonism, Basic Teachings of Jehovah s Witnesses, Basic Teachings of Islam) Dates: February 17 & 24, March 3 Time: 8:00 a.m. Location: Room 105 Leader: Andy Bates, D.C.E. 7

8 Section 400: Topical Experiencing Contagious Joy (Women s Study) Joy has a way of working its way from the inside out. When our lives are filled with joy, the symptoms are unmistakable. A twinkle in the eye. A ready smile. A skip in the step. A song in the heart. Joy lends a glow to the face and a lilt to the voice. Joy is contagious. It is also the birthright of every believer, but rainy days have a way of distracting us from that fact. In this study, readers will take a careful look at this uniquely Christian characteristic and discover they have every reason to be joyful. They will see that joy is their strength and their song and provides a solid foundation in their hearts. Dates: Begins January 20 - April 7 Time: 10:30 a.m. Location: Room 104 Leader: Kim Becker Will the Real Jesus Please Stand Up When s the last time you stepped up to the counter and ordered one medium-size Jesus, extra generous, and heavy on the bling? Or maybe you like your Jesus supersized! No? Perhaps you prefer yours extra small, and hold the onion please. Here s the same question: When s the last time you took a hammer and a chisel to the Jesus of the Bible and formed Him into your own personal Jesus? Will the Real Jesus Please Stand Up? not only reminds us who the real Jesus of the Bible is, but it also reveals to us twelve false christs who are embraced, loved, promoted, and revered even by well-meaning Christians. Dates: January 6 - February 10 Time: 8:00 a.m. Location: Room 105 Leader: Andy Bates, D.C.E. Clearly Christian-Following Jesus in the Age of Confusion Let s just admit we re all a little confused. Networks connect people around the world, yet we struggle to remember our next-door neighbor s name. We have access to more information than ever, but it hasn t solved the problems of discrimination, prejudice, or self-absorption. We have an excess of many things gadgets, technology, cat memes but nothing is more abundant than confusion. This confusion also swirls around and seeps into the Christian faith. Non-Christians look at Christianity through layers of misinformation, and even Christians can get lost in a fog of opinions mixed with truth, confused about who they are and what they believe. Clearly Christian takes the confusion head-on. A. Trevor Sutton dispels one falsehood about Christianity after another. In this age of counterfeits and fakes, the world desperately needs clear Christianity: the real love and forgiveness of God, who is the Savior for real sinners.
