1 H e r i t a g e Herald July 22, 2018 THIS WEEK: Dear Friends and Members, This week has been a full week as God graciously gave strength in health to me. On Monday, my doctor told me that I was suffering from a Lyme s infection, which is caused by a tick bite. Praise the Lord for the antibiotics of today. I am already feeling better. To God be the glory! I would ask prayer from my friends as I continue to recover. One problem that I am having is the experience of shortness of breath. And that is not good for a preacher. It should disappear as I get stronger and as the internal swelling dissipates. Wednesday, Pastor Jake preached a wonderful message on Rejoicing. Praise the Lord for a young teenage girl who recently received Christ as her Savior, and who has been sharing with her mother what God has been doing for her and what she has been learning. She has shown great seriousness in witnessing to her father and mother. Wednesday evening her mother came with her to church, and following the service she received Christ as her Savior. It is truly a blessing to see seriousness in people regarding the truth of Christ and what He has done to save us. It gives great cause of rejoicing to genuine believers. Many of our young people are working since they graduated from high school and college, but some of our young people that were available, were of great help to me this week. 2 buildings and grounds, relieving me for time to rest. Early Thursday morning the printing of Pastor George Totica s doctoral dissertation was completed. It was then delivered to Lansing Station, New York. Mr. Don Ridley, pictured with me on the left, received the dissertation to hard bind it. He has been a good friend in helping bind books for our seminary. Today he lives on Cayuga Lake, binding books in his spare time. Dr. George Totica has been a student, coming to module classes in the Philippines. He has planted several independent Baptist churches. He is the pastor of one of those churches which is in Iloilo City, Philippines. He is to be congratulated for earning the Doctor of Ministry degree from Bible Baptist Theological Seminary of Cromwell, Connecticut. This accomplishment came after many years of intense and advanced study of the Scripture. A schedule change has been made regarding the upcoming module with Pastor Stephen Hinebaugh at the Galilean Baptist Church in Stafford Springs Connecticut. Dr. Keith Main will relieve me from my class on Baptist History and will teach a module class on the Book of Romans. I will take this time to continue resting and dieting in order to strengthen my health. I need to be ready for my upcoming trip and module in September with Dr. Jed Raquintan at the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Quezon City, Philippines. for the discerning THE FEAR OF DEATH And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage (Hebrews 2:15). The fear of death has a great influence on the choices people make. For example, the bucket list is a list of experiences people are determined to go through before they die. 3 for the discerning to cram as many into your life as you can before you die. Some race to become rich, to amass great treasures and indulge in pleasures, hoping to die in great comfort. Death is often a subject not to be discussed for these people because it puts a damper on the good times. Many seek fame and power and influence, spending their energies climbing the ladder of success, stepping on others as they ascend to whatever pinnacle they are determined to reach. In contrast, there are those who become depressed, step out of life, and are largely paralyzed by fear of death. They avoid any risk or danger; they spend countless hours and days consulting doctors, taking drugs and seeking health gurus to try to live as long as possible. Many seek answers in religion, adhering to a system of works and rituals attempting to appease whatever false God they are taken by. In a system of works, is there ever any certainty? What if you come up just a little short? Is all that effort lost? So many answers to try to drown out the fear of death, but all these fail to eliminate it. Human answers always subject the person to bondage. God has a better answer: But we see Jesus...that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man (Hebrews 2:9). Jesus took part in flesh and blood...that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil... (Hebrews 2:14). The saved person has no reason to fear death. As the apostle Paul said,...to live is Christ, and to die is gain (Philippians 1:21). God not only will save you, but he also lets you have assurance and certainty of that salvation. Are you saved? Are you in bondage to the fear of death? Reeves Two thousand years ago, Jesus Christ the Son of God rose from the dead to give eternal hope to all who will believe that He is God s Savior for all mankind. Thus, it makes several things possible for the believing sinner: I. That We Might be Saved in Him (2 Corinthians 5:21) A. Made righteous by washing (1 Corinthians 5:11) B.
