Mueller, Pastor ext. 302 or ) Debbie Billman, Director, Worship & Music Ministries ext. 325 or ) Vicky Lesiak, Early Childhood Education Ministries Director ext. 304) Malinda Long-Copland, Administrative Assistant Sydney Van Pelt, Church Office Assistant ext. 301) Welcome to King of Kings! Our prayer is that the Holy Spirit will draw you closer to the living God through your time of worship with us today and strengthen your connection to Christ our Savior. Please refer to the maps at both entrances for location of rooms. A staffed nursery is available for children through kindergarten age. Prayer cards are available just outside the Worship Center (gym). The Education hour begins at 9:45 am. Current studies include: Adults: A Longer Look At the Lessons (Pastor John, Fellowship Hall) Junior and Senior High Youth (grades 6 12): Not-So-Nice Bible Stories Master Criminals (Laura Pieper and Su Polzin, room 100) Sunday School: Hands-On Bible Study (ages 3 through grade 5, gather in Luther Chapel for opening) + Celebration of Holy Communion at King of Kings + We believe that Holy Communion is a Sacrament whereby we receive, under the bread and wine, the true Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of our sins. Our Lord invites to His table those who trust His words, repent of all sin, and set aside any refusal to forgive and love others as He forgives and loves us (Matthew 6:15). Our gathering together at Jesus table also gives us the opportunity to profess our common faith as one church family (1 Corinthians 10:17). Guests who are members of other LCMS congregations are invited to commune with us. Visitors from other churches, or guests without a church home, are invited to come forward and place your hands over your heart to receive a blessing as you stand with those communing. Children are also invited to come forward with their parents for a special blessing. If you have any questions regarding the Sacrament or your desire to receive it, Pastor Mueller is eager to meet with you. Please feel free to contact Pastor John Mueller at pastor.john@koklcms.org or

Radical Children! Luke 6: Our Lord s new kingdom ushered in by Jesus Christ is filled with His unique, gracious blessings. These blessings do nothing if they are not embraced through faith in Jesus Christ. Let s discover this morning how such blessings empower us to put into action the radical nature of living as God s children as we are guided by His unique and deep love which never wavers. + In the Name of Jesus + Sunday, February 24, 2019; 11:00 am Entrance Music If We are the Body (Acoustic) by Casting Crowns Human Spark by Michael W. 4 Page 2 We Confess our Sins and Rejoice in God s Forgiveness P: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. P: Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. C: Forgive us, dear Lord, for our sins and offenses against You. P: Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. C: Forgive us, dear Lord, for our sins and offenses against each other. P: Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. C: Forgive us, dear Lord, and give us Your grace to live as Your people. In Jesus name we pray, Amen. P: Dear friends in Christ, hear the Good News: In Him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in Him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of His glory (Ephesians 1:13,14). Receive God s forgiveness: in the stead and by the command of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, I, a called and ordained servant of the Word, forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. Prayer for Unity Make Us One Make us one, make us one. Make us one undivided body. Make us one, make us one. For the sake of Your name make us one. Make us love, make us love. Make us love so the world will know we love You. Make us love, make us love. For the sake of Your name, make us love. Make us pure, make us pure. Make us pure and righteous; make us holy. Make us pure, make us pure. For the sake of Your name, make us pure. Make us one, make us one. Make us one undivided body. Make us one, make us one. For the sake of Your name make us one. For the sake of Your name, till You come. For the sake of Your name make us one. Words and Music by Twila Paris 2003 Ariose Music and Mountain Spring Music CCLI #677188

Page 3 The Old Testament Lesson Genesis 45: 3 15 (Joseph reveals himself, reassuring his brothers. With Pharaoh s full support, he sends for his father and family. God rules the world and brings evil to a good end for the sake of His people, as He did with Joseph s slavery.) 3 Joseph said to his brothers, I am Joseph! Is my father still alive? But his brothers could not answer him, for they were dismayed at his presence. 4 So Joseph said to his brothers, Come near to me, please. And they came near. And he said, I am your brother, Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt. 5 And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life. 6 For the famine has been in the land these two years, and there are yet five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvest. 7 And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for you many survivors. 8 So it was not you who sent me here, but God. He has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house and ruler over all the land of Egypt. 9 Hurry and go up to my father and say to him, Thus says your son Joseph, God has made me lord of all Egypt. Come down to me; do not tarry. 10 You shall dwell in the land of Goshen, and you shall be near me, you and your children and your children s children, and your flocks, your herds, and all that you have. 11 There I will provide for you, for there are yet five years of famine to come, so that you and your household, and all that you have, do not come to poverty. 12 And now your eyes see, and the eyes of my brother Benjamin see, that it is my mouth that speaks to you. 13 You must tell my father of all my honor in Egypt, and of all that you have seen. Hurry and bring my father down here. 14 Then he fell upon his brother Benjamin s neck and wept, and Benjamin wept upon his neck. 15 And he kissed all his brothers and wept upon them. After that his brothers talked with him. The Epistle Lesson 1 Corinthians 15: 21 26, (Christ as conquering general now wars against sin, death, and the power of the devil. He will present His conquest to His Father, who has given Him authority to wage this war. Death is destroyed by the gift of eternal life in Christ. Paul provides three examples from God s created order to illustrate the principle of resurrection.) 21 For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. (to page 4)

Page 4 The Epistle Lesson (continued) 1 Corinthians 15: 21 26, Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power. 25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death. 30 Why am I in danger every hour? 31 I protest, brothers, by my pride in you, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die every day! 32 What do I gain if, humanly speaking, I fought with beasts at Ephesus? If the dead are not raised, Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die. 33 Do not be deceived: Bad company ruins good morals. 34 Wake up from your drunken stupor, as is right, and do not go on sinning. For some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame. 35 But someone will ask, How are the dead raised? With what kind of body do they come? 36 You foolish person! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. 37 And what you sow is not the body that is to be, but a bare kernel, perhaps of wheat or of some other grain. 38 But God gives it a body as he has chosen, and to each kind of seed its own body. 39 For not all flesh is the same, but there is one kind for humans, another for animals, another for birds, and another for fish. 40 There are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is of one kind, and the glory of the earthly is of another. 41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory. 42 So is it with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable. The Gospel Lesson (please rise) Luke 6: (Jesus overthrows the common ethics of human culture to emphasize the Father s ways of love and mercy.) 27 [Jesus said:] But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. 29 To one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic either. 30 Give to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back. 31 And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them. (to page 5)

Page 5 The Gospel Lesson (continued) Luke 6: If you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount. 35 But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. 36 Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful. 37 Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven; 38 give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you. We Confess our Faith in the Triune God ALL: We believe in God our Father, Who created the universe, and our earth; Who continues to care for us. We believe in our Lord, Jesus Christ, Who redeems creation and all people, Who continues to live in us. We believe in the Holy Spirit, Who empowers renewal and acts of service; Who continues to work in us. We believe we are being saved By the grace of God, and look forward to everlasting life with Him. Amen. The Children s Message Pastor John

Page 6 Preparation to Hear the Message In Christ There Is No East or West (Tune: How Sweet the Name of Jesus Sounds ) In Christ there is no east or west, in Him no south or north, But one great fellowship of love throughout the whole wide earth. So, brothers, sisters, praise His name who died to set us free From sin, division, hate, and shame, from spite and enmity! In Christ now meet both east and west; in Him meet south and north. All Christian souls are one in Him throughout the whole wide earth. Hope Publishing Co. Used by permission: LSB (#653) Hymn License.NET, no ; The Message Radical Children! For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Page 8 The Words of Our Lord P: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: Take, eat; this is My body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me. In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me. May the peace of the Lord be with you always. C: And also with you. 11 Page 9 Distribution Hymn Lord of Glory, You Have Bought Us Lord of glory, You have bought us with Your lifeblood as the price, Never grudging for the lost ones that tremendous sacrifice; And with that have freely given blessings countless as the sand To the unthankful and the evil with Your own unsparing hand. Grant us hearts, dear Lord, to give You gladly, freely of Your own. With the sunshine of Your goodness melt our thankless hearts of stone Till our cold and selfish natures, warmed by You, at length believe That more happy and more blessed tis to give than to receive. Lord of glory, You have bought us with Your lifeblood as the price, Never grudging for the lost ones that tremendous sacrifice; Give us faith to trust You boldly, hope, to stay our souls on You; But, oh, best of all Your graces, with Your love our love renew. Public domain; Lutheran Service Book #851 Prayer of Thanksgiving P: Grant, O Lord, that the lips which have sung Your praise in the sanctuary may glorify You in the world; that the ears which have heard the voice of Your songs may be closed to the voice of clamor and dispute, that the eyes which have seen Your great love may also behold Your blessed hope, that the tongues which have confessed Your name may ever speak the truth, and that the bodies of all who have tasted of Your Son s living body and blood may be restored to newness of life; through Jesus Christ, Your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: Amen. Challenge His Vision in Action As children in God s kingdom we are called to an unselfish love that expects nothing in return!

Page 10 The Blessing P: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace. C: Amen. Closing Praise Empty hands held high, such small sacrifice. If not joined with my life, I sing in vain tonight. May the words I say and the things I do Make my lifesong sing, bring a smile to You. Lifesong Let my lifesong sing to You, let my lifesong sing to You. I wanna sign Your name to the end of this day, knowing that my heart was true. Let my lifesong sing to You. 15 Page 13 Church News JOIN US THIS LENTEN SEASON FOR MIDWEEK + HOLY WEEK WORSHIP! Behold the man! was Pontius Pilate s short, yet most profound, sermon. Our endeavor this Lententide and Easter Sunday is to behold the man, God in human flesh, Jesus. Each time together, we are meditating on and proclaiming His real, bodily suffering and death as well as His physical resurrection. Jesus knew all that real bodies experience; He suffered, wept, bled, ate, and hoped. As we move through this season of Lent, it will become increasingly clear why God became man: He lived this physical life in order to be nailed to a cross. Thereby, we are truly preparing for the celebration of His real, bodily, flesh-and-blood resurrection. Without that, our faith and our preaching are all in vain. God the Son became the embodied, incarnate Son of Mary. In Jesus, God has human flesh, a body, just like us. What could be more profound? Behold the man, who has led the way for us through death to our own physical resurrection! WE BEGIN OUR LENTEN WORSHIP ASH WEDNESDAY, MARCH 6 7:00 P.M. During the mid-week Lenten series the school would like to invite members to stay after the fellowship period and join the children in Chapel at 1:15 pm. Children s Bulletins King of Kings has a subscription to quality children s bulletins that can enrich a child s worship experience. Please pick up one each time you have a child accompanying you in worship. The ushers will be happy to help you locate them. Worship Servers Needed Especially At Early Service Would you like to get involved at King of Kings but aren t quite sure how? Would you like to start with a small commitment? If so, please consider serving on Sunday mornings. There is a particular need at early service but we will gladly take help at the late service as well! Positions include acolyte/candlelighter, communion assistant, reader, sound tech, greeter, usher, liturgist (8:15 am only) and PowerPoint tech (11:00 am only). Training will be provided and you can block dates for the times you are out of town on a Sunday. If you are interested, please get in touch with Debbie Billman (worship@koklcms.org).

Page 14 School News for February School News Our students have had lots of learning opportunities with winter weather this last month! We ve explored the arctic biome and the animals that live there. See our special projects and artwork on the bulletin boards. In addition to our academic work and play, our Bible time picked up right after Christmas and Christ s birth. We learned about Jesus as a young boy, his early miracles, and the story of the Good Samaritan. National Lutheran Schools Week occurred the last week of January and, due to three days off for inclement weather, carried into February. We had a great time learning about how God is real and present and what that means to us through Real Grace, Real People, Real Places, Real Time, and Real Praise. It was great to see the school and church come together for an outreach project for Kings Local Food Pantry. Thanks to all who showed God s love in a tangible way. We collected $350 from the congregation, $175 from Chapel, a $25 gift card to Meijer, and 535 items (211 food items toiletries and cleaning items). We have been very busy with the school open house in January and families enrolling for the school year. To date, we estimate over 60% of our classroom slots have been secured. We appreciate your continued support and sharing the word about our amazing school here at King of Kings. Outreach News Kings Food Pantry Update In spite of inclement weather that canceled services and school days, we had a substantial collection for Kings Local Food Pantry. Last Friday, church and school representatives delivered 535 items (211 food items toiletries and cleaning items) as well as $550 ($350 in church donations, $175 in Chapel donations, and a $25 Meijer gift card). Check out the photos of the delivery posted to social media if you haven t already. Many thanks to all who contributed to this collection, which serves an increasing number of families and elders in need in our community. Prince of Peace Donation Prince of Peace recently opened a new facility and they are in need of 4 large area rugs. If you would like to donate, please leave the rugs next to the mailboxes in Narthex and we ll take them down to POP. Please contact Lyle and Mary Jo Pagel at (513) with any questions.
