1 FOR THE JOURNEY January Vol. 26, No. 1 HOPE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH 2233 Golf Road Eau Claire, Wisconsin / / hopeumcec@yahoo.com Happy New Year! I am wondering if you still make New Year s resolutions. As we begin a new year, we may wish to be more hope-filled and stronger as a whole, but we may also begin to question, What is it all for? This is a good time to remind ourselves what the purpose of our life is, as we consider the meaning of this season. Beginning with Christmas Day, December 25 th, we celebrate twelve days of Christmas, called Epiphany, which traditionally ends on January 6 th. The word epiphany means: manifestation, to reveal, to show forth or appear. In other words, during the Epiphany season the church focuses on showing forth or making known to the whole world the newborn King, Christ who came in the flesh. This means that during this season of Epiphany we are to focus on revealing and letting people know who Jesus is, and sharing what he has done for us. Our focus will again change as we move into the Lent and Easter seasons, according to church calendar. So, as we think about the meaning of this season and begin a new year, I want to remind you that this is a time for making Christ known. As Christians beginning a new year, how about we start with this simple question, How can I spend time this year making Christ known to my neighbors, my family, and my friends? This coming year I hope we can all sing a new song filled with God s promises, assurance of God s presence, and courage while facing the struggles and joys in our lives. Pastor Hyejung O sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things. His right hand and his holy arm have gotten him victory. ~ Psalm 98:1-1 -

4 PARKING NOTE WOMEN OF HOPE We will gather on Saturday, January 19th at 9:30am. Plans are still being determined, so stay tuned for more information. ASH TREES We are blessed with a beautiful wooded lot, but unfortunately we have lots of ash trees and they all gotta go before they are felled by the ash borer infestation. Take a minute to thank our resident master woodsman Chris Widstrand along with Denny Schultz, Chuck Lorentz, Mike Clauson and Dan Shuck for their efforts in removing 7 trees so far. If you are interested in some of the wood please let any Trustee know. With winter just around the corner, we are asking for your help to kindly leave the parking spots closest to the building available for those who may require easier access to the entrance on Sunday mornings. Thank you! Happy Birthday to you, to Jesus be true May God s richest blessing, now rest upon you! I wanted to express my gratitude for your various warm greetings, expressions of appreciation, and gifts this Christmas. I am truly blessed to work with such amazing and kindhearted members. Blessings to all of you as we journey into the New Year. Thank you again, Kristen Birthday Blessings to all who are celebrating a January Birthday! - 4 -
