So much for all the El Nino forecasts that predicted a milder than average winter. Maybe March will be better. Of course, we are hearing the jokes about wanting a little more global warming, to which the scientists will patiently explain the difference between weather and climate. While cruising the Caribbean, I twice overheard people spouting off, denying climate change. They didn t seem like scientists, but then it is hard to judge when the speaker is wearing swim trunks and drinking too much beer. But from reputable sources we are hearing the alarms that we are nearer to the point of being able to stem the tide than we think. If we are going to start declaring emergencies, this is one we really need to do now. One of the jobs God gives us is stewardship of creation. Through much of my time in ministry, creation care seems to be one of those many important issues we keep on the back burners for another time. But as there was a time for Noah to start building the ark, perhaps it is now the time that people of faith need to take a more visible stance in environmental advocacy, and more actions to shrink our carbon footprint. I admit that this is not one of my areas of expertise. It has been over 40 years since I had a college class on environmental concerns. But I know a little about what I can do, and so do you. I think God s call for the time is for us all to do what we can to care for the earth so that we can pass on a better planet to the generations to come than we found. If we do that, God will bless us, as will the generations to come. Be a blessing. Loren See you in church

3 Fidget Lap Blanket Project We are still receiving requests for Fidget Lap Blankets for area nursing homes and elder care and hospice facilities, as well as for comfort blankets for children facing cancer treatments and for special ed. students in area schools. We have probably distributed around 200 blankets by now, but we need your help! We would appreciate money donations to help cover the cost of fabrics, batting, muslin, wash bags, and specialized notions. You may write a check to Dodge Center United Methodist Church and memo for Fidget Blankets. We have plenty of fabrics in our stash at church, so we are ok on those donations. We would also appreciate help with sewing on buttons, etc. on 9" squares. Our most recent work sessions were on Feb. 21, Feb. 28, and March 2. Several ladies from Owatonna UMC help us but we could use more help sewing. We will have a display of fidget blankets at the Dodge County Expo on March 30 at our church booth. Let Lois Lepp or Sheila Freerksen know how you can help. Ash Wednesday service with Pastor Loren will be held at 7:00 pm on March 6 th. Offerings for Heifer International Save your loose change for our Palm Sunday Loud Offering which will be held on Sunday, April 14 th. This will be our 8 th consecutive year that we have been collecting money to send to Heifer International. Last year we received just over $1,000. and we have already been gifted $ for this year's offering. You may make a donation any time during Lent, between March 6 th until a week after Easter which is April 21 st. There will be banks and calendars available at church if you wish to collect your offering that way or write a check to the church and memo Heifer International. Thank- you for your continued support from the Sunday School students and teachers. March 10 th will meet on Friday, March 15 at 9:30 a.m. at Sheila Freerksen's home th Ave. Dodge Center. All women and friends are invited to join us for an informal time of fellowship.

4 March Sunday School News Lesson: Jacob Main Idea: Jacob and Esau were brothers who had a lifelong struggle to get along with each other. Love and forgiveness brought them back together. We too can love and forgive those people we have struggles with. Jacob and Esau were brothers who struggled to get along with each other. Jacob was deceitful, cheated his brother, and left home because he had caused his brother to be so angry. Esau's love and forgiveness turned out to be stronger than his hatred for his brother. How do you reconcile God's blessings on Jacob when he was so dishonest? Scriptures: Genesis 25:19-34, Genesis 27:1-45, Genesis 33:1-11 Sunday School SCHEDULE For the school year, there will be Sunday School on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month for kids ages 3 years old through 4th grade; and confirmation for the kids in grades 5 and up. The classes will be during worship. As in the past, this younger group will start in worship and then go to class after the children s message. Grades 5 and up will start class right at 9:00 a.m. when church starts. The schedule for the year is below. Mark your calendars now.
