WELCOME TO PICTOU UNITED CHURCH Rev. Mary-Beth Moriarity B.A., B.Th., M.Div. David & Shelley Pos: Ministry of Music January 27 th, 2019 Third Sunday after Epiphany Between two words choose the quieter one. Between word and silence choose listening. Between two books choose the dustier one. Between the earth and the sky choose a bird. Between two animals choose the one who needs you more. Between two children choose both. Between the lesser and the bigger evil choose neither. Between hope and despair choose hope: it will be harder to bear. Decisions - Boris Novak Music to Gather Us Welcome & Announcements We Gather in Community As the music begins, we are invited to prepare ourselves for worship. Gathering Words ~ Moment To Pause Before us each day lie challenges, opportunities, possibilities. The choices we make craft us into who we are becoming. Today, may we ever open our eyes to the newness of our days. May we sense the surge of wonder just beneath the surface of the ordinary. May we be reminded of God s constant presence. May we find wisdom and meaning in each breaking moment. New life; Renewed energy; Deepening faith. As the Christ Candle Is Lit, We Sing In this moment, in this place, all is wonder, all is grace. In this moment, in this place, hope awaits... In this moment, in this place peace awaits. In this moment, in this place joy awaits. In this moment, in this place love awaits. words & music by Trisha Watts ~ Seasons of the Spirit
We Are Gathered Together We are not alone, we live in God s world. Let us worship our God; source of all love. We believe in God: who has created and is creating, who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh, to reconcile and make new. Let us worship the Christ; love incarnate who works in us and others, by the Spirit. Let us worship the Spirit; love s power. We trust in God. We are called to be the Church: to celebrate God s presence, to live with respect in Creation, to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil, to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope. In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us. We are not alone. Thanks be to God. adapted from our United Church Creed Hymn Your Love Is Amazing More Voices 26 We Are Gathered in Prayer What separates privilege from entitlement is gratitude. Brene Brown In gratitude, we pause and open ourselves to the goodness of this day; For the goodness of life; For the goodness of God around and within. Breathing in we pray Love Breathing out we pray is here We Prayerfully Sing Together: Gather us in, ground us in you. Gather us in, ground us in you. Gather us in, ground us in you. Gather us in, gather us in, ground us, ground us in you. More Voices 7 3
With gratitude in our hearts, we give thanks. For reminders of how we come close to You and You come close to us, we say thank you. For the ways we live in relationship in our community of faith, and in the multi-cultured world around us, we say thank you. For the ways you invite us deeper into love, we say thank you. You are always giving us more grace, more love, more joy, more peace, more abundant life. And we are grateful. from the writing of Janice Maclean And So We Sing!! Ev ry day is a day of thanksgiving. God you ve been so good to me, Ev ry day you re blessing me. Everyday He's blessing me. Ev ry day is a day of thanksgiving. I will glorify you, O my God, today! More Voices 185 Moment for All This little light of mine I m gonna let it shine This little light of mine I m gonna let it shine This little light of mine I m gonna let it shine Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine We Open Ourselves to Wisdom When our heart is in a holy place, When our heart is in a holy place, We are blessed with love and amazing grace, When our heart is in a holy place. words & music - Joyce Polley New Testament Wisdom 1 Corinthians 12: In Relationship p Hymn Christ Has No Body More Voices 171 Reflections Recharging our Spirits To Be Continued. Come build a church with soul and spirit, come build a church of flesh and bone. 4
We need no tower rising skyward; no house of wood, or glass, or stone. Come build a church with human frailty, come build a church of flesh and blood. Jesus shall be its sure foundation. It shall be built by the hand of God. words & music: Ken Medema We Respond and Move into the World We Prepare to Offer our Gifts ~ Offertory ~ Prayer These gifts we bring with grateful hearts, to reconcile, make new, gather us in grace, show us the way, to live our lives in Truth, to share your love in all we do. words and music: Pat Mayberry - arrangement: David Kai Ministry of Music Just Two Words A Litany of Celebration For our community gathered here; for the spirit that calls us together and draws us to one another: For moments we have shared with others; for times when we have reached out across barriers of distance and fear; for times when others have reached out to us across barriers of distance and fear; for moments when we have discovered kindred spirits along life s path: For the many gifts that are shared generously and prayerfully. For all the hands, eyes, minds, spirits, feet, lives that sustain, build and enable us to be the church. For this community of celebration and action; introspection and solitude; compassion and vision; risk-takers and justice-seekers: 5
For the ways in which we gather together; and are gathered together. For the ministry we share and how we embody God through our ministries; for this time of worship, weaving together our many separate selves; and for the opportunities, challenges and possibilities that are ours to embrace: adapted from Unitarian Universalist Worship resources Hymn Spirit God, Be Our Breath More Voices 150 We Are Blessed Called to Be a Blessing What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us. We are called: As we are; Where we are. We are loved: As we are; For who we are. We are invited: To be God s; Today! Every day! We Go Out Singing Let s go out and love one another, pray and care for the people in need. Let s be a sign of the love from above, and let this spark be a fire indeed. Let s go out and keep on singing, sing to the trees and the moon above, clap your hands and lift your feet, and dance to the music of love. Music to Send Us Out into The World from Let s Go Out words & music Leigh Newton Seasons of the Spirit Songbook Vol.4 This week's bulletin is dedicated in loving memory of Ralph Ferguson by Anne & family. REMEMBER! FUNDSCRIP orders NEXT SUNDAY. For more info call Bev or Nancy
