5 Prayer of the Day Let us pray. Almighty and ever-living God, throughout time you free the oppressed, heal the sick, and make whole all that you have made. Look with compassion on the world wounded by sin, and by your power restore us to wholeness of life, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen Children s Sermon First Reading Deuteronomy 5:12-15 Part of the Ten Commandments, these verses instruct the Israelites to keep the Sabbath. The Israelites are to rest and they are to allow their slaves, their livestock, and the foreigners living among them to do the same. They were once slaves, and so they are to treat their own slaves justly. 12 Observe the sabbath day and keep it holy, as the LORD your God commanded you. 13 Six days you shall labor and do all your work. 14 But the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God; you shall not do any work you, or your son or your daughter, or your male or female slave, or your ox or your donkey, or any of your livestock, or the resident alien in your towns, so that your male and female slave may rest as well as you. 15 Remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God brought you out from there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm; therefore the LORD your God commanded you to keep the sabbath day. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it. Second Reading 2 Corinthians 4:5-12 When we carry out God s ministry we do so not for our glory but for the sake of Jesus Christ whom we proclaim as Lord. The power for ministry comes from God, not us, so that we persevere no matter what, trusting in God s power and promises at work through us. 5 We do not proclaim ourselves; we proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and ourselves as your slaves for Jesus sake. 6 For it is the God who said, Let light shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 7 But we have this treasure in clay jars, so that it may be made clear that this extraordinary power belongs to God and does not come from us. 8 We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; 10 always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be made visible in our bodies. 11 For while

The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Gospel Acclamation Announcement of the Gospel The Gospel according to Mark the 2 nd and 3 rd chapter. Glory to you, O Lord Gospel Lesson Mark 2:23-3:6 Jesus challenges the prevailing interpretation of what is lawful on the sabbath and tells his critics that the sabbath was made for humankind, not the other way around. Healing the man with the withered hand is work that cannot wait until the next day. 23 One sabbath [Jesus] was going through the grainfields; and as they made their way his disciples began to pluck heads of grain. 24 The Pharisees said to him, Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the sabbath? 25 And he said to them, Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need of food? 26 He entered the house of God, when Abiathar was high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and he gave some to his companions. 27 Then he said to them, The sabbath was made for humankind, and not humankind for the sabbath; 28 so the Son of Man is lord even of the sabbath.

8 3:1 Again he entered the synagogue, and a man was there who had a withered hand. 2 They watched him to see whether he would cure him on the sabbath, so that they might accuse him. 3 And he said to the man who had the withered hand, Come forward. 4 Then he said to them, Is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the sabbath, to save life or to kill? But they were silent. 5 He looked around at them with anger; he was grieved at their hardness of heart and said to the man, Stretch out your hand. He stretched it out, and his hand was restored. 6 The Pharisees went out and immediately conspired with the Herodians against him, how to destroy him. This is the good news for you today. Praise to you, O Christ. Sermon Song O Day of Rest and Gladness # 521 Apostle s Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. 9 Offertory Response Offering Prayer Let us pray. Holy God, gracious and merciful, you bring forth food from the earth and nourish your whole creation. Turn our hearts toward those who hunger in any way, that all may know your care; and prepare us now to feast on the bread of life, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. It you have items for Redeemer, the Crisis Center, Agape, and other special collections you will find the appropriate box in our collection corner. Hands in Mission donations requested: Fabrics, sewing thread, monetary donations to purchase these items for the World Relief Quilt Project. Fabrics must not have any religious symbols, holiday references or military related prints/patterns. June Prayer Practice: Examine Prayer Practice. How is God bringing you life? What is causing you distress? Anyone is welcome to pray with us at Trinity every week on Wednesdays at noon. If you can t join us face to face, we still encourage you to practice prayer where you are at noon on Wednesdays. You are also welcome to text Pastor Melodi at by noon Wednesday and we will lift up your prayer concerns with you. The Auglaize County Historical Society will host a Gravestone Restoration workshop on Saturday, June 16, at St. John s Lutheran Church, Pusheta Road. The cost is $28 for historical society members, and $36 for non-members, which includes breakfast, lunch, and all workshop supplies. Contact the historical society, auglaizecountyhistory@bright.net, for more information or a registration form. On Friday evening (June 15) at 7 pm at the church noted genealogist Karen Bennett will provide a powerpoint presentation about Gravestone Symbolism; the Friday program is free and open to the public. Repairing tombstones is a great way to understand and honor our family, church, and community history! We are creating an informal pictorial directory of members in conjunction with the 150th Anniversary celebration. It can be any kind of picture: studio pictures, Christmas together, or a fun one off Facebook- just tell us which one! This will also help our new members put names to smiling faces! Synod Assembly will be this Friday and Saturday June 8-9th at Bowling Green State University. Anyone is welcome to attend as a guest. Our voting delegates Tammy and Kyle Frishe and Pastor Melodi will representing Trinity in worship, prayer, and voting on the concerns of the church. Haiti Mission Picnic Sunday, June 10 th 2-5pm. For anyone interested in meeting the past team members who have traveled to Haiti and to receive information about the next Haiti Mission Trip in February Families are invited to come with to Pastor Melodi s family pond for fishing, swimming, and a picnic where information will be shared about Haiti. Please bring a lawn chair and a donation for beans and rice for Haiti. Drinks and Food will be provided. Please talk to Pastor Melodi if you are able to attend and for directions! Adult Affirmation of Baptism Classes offered in June on Sundays at 9am. Did you just take confirmation because your parents made you? Thank you for your generous support of our youth offering this year. Since January 2018 we have received over $1,600 to support our youth partners at Redeemer Lutheran. From June-August our youth offering will support our local kids to go to VBS here at Trinity.

15 Agape will be offering their Summer Feeding Program bags again this year. Hard to believe that this will be our twelfth year. Since we provide these bags to all the students who were enrolled in their respective schools free and reduced breakfast and/or lunch feeding programs, we potentially could offer these bags to 1057 students each month. While this is a staggering number of students who are enrolled, we provide for an average of 910 to 965 bags each month. Each student will receive a total of 41 shelf stable items, 6 cold and frozen items and 5 soft and squishy items. These are packed into a total of 3 bags. The shelf stable items can be pre-packed but the cold and frozen and the soft and squishy must to be packed as needed. This requires a substantial amount of work. This is why we require volunteer groups to assist in these packing parties. If you have adults and children that have time during the day, evenings or Saturdays, please let us know so we can make arrangements to have them pack bags for us. Only an hour or so is needed and we can accommodate anywhere from 5 to 35 or so at a time. Give us a call at (419) or send an at agape@bright.net. We can certainly use the help and it really is a great time for everyone. Children can decorate the small snack bags and pack with goodies and the adults can pack the bags. Please help us help our communities.
