2 From the Pastor s Desk Christmas Time in the Christian s Heart Grace to You and Peace from God our Heavenly Father, Isaiah 9:6, For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. ESV Isaiah wrote these words 700 years before Christ was born. He points to the hope that exists in the Lord s promise. Isaiah speaks to a people who have been exiled to Babylon, a people who have lost everything that they held to be traditional, their homes, their way of life, their temple, and for some their God. But God had not abandoned them, His love overshadowed them even in the Babylonian Captivity. Read Daniel sometime and consider whether you could endure a lion s den, or a fiery furnace without God being there beside you. In fact Daniel tells of the Lord s presence in each of those episodes. For those who believed in and trusted the Lord, He was there even in the darkest of times. The Son who comes to reign, the Son of the Covenant, the Son given the name above all other names. The Son who does the Father s will to redeem the Father s children. At times, I think about Christmas past. The times as a little boy that I was privileged to celebrate with my family the Savior s Birth. The times that the family gathered for meal and sharing. The Midnight Candlelight services, singing and celebrating. The retelling of the old, old story. My mind goes back each time I hear the words of Isaiah 9 or Luke 2, It came to pas sin those days that a decree went our from Caesar Augustus. I am not that little boy any longer, my family will not be gathered this Christmas, there will be no Midnight Candlelight Service. Much of that past cannot be relived because it doesn't exist any longer. Christmas like it used to be is just that, a thing of the past. (Imagine a sad dark face.) But the story still remains. To us a Son is given, and Unto us is born this day in the City of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. The message, just like God s love, never changes, it is there for any who will listen. The true meaning of Christmas hasn t changed, it remains about a small town, and a newborn babe. It remains a message of hope and joy, God s love comes down at Christmas. God s reclaiming of His children from the slavery to sin has begun with that infant in a small town in a tiny country of the Middle East. This Advent season we will have two series of Advent messages in preparation for the Christmas celebration. On Wednesdays we will be looking a Gabriel s 3 messages to Mary, Joseph and the Shepherds. How did those messages change the lives of the individuals he spoke to, how do the messages impact us today. On Sundays we will journey through Isaiah 40:3-5, God prescribes actions to prepare the way for the King to come in. We will look at how we prepare, how we lift up, how we reveal, and how we listen. Please join us for each of these journeys. Our Christmas celebrations will center around the 24th and the 25th, with the children kicking off the Celebration as they tell the story of Jesus birth at 7:00 PM, on Christmas Eve, followed by the Christmas Eve Candlelight service, a Service of song and preaching. Join us on this Holy Night to journey again to Bethlehem. The journey continues on Christmas Morning as we arise to the new reality of a Savior born for us. One last celebration will be held on December 30th, with a Service of Carols and Readings, Caroling the Christmas Story. This service is patterned after a service out of England going back to the 1840 s. It is a fun and relaxing journey through the Christmas Story. I hope you will be blessed this Christmas season as you once again celebrate God s abiding love for you. From Angel messages to preparations to a Child in a manger, let the story of Christmas dwell in your heart and mind. And may God s peace and joy be with you in all of your celebrations this season. In keeping with the Great Commission, LWML is inviting the congregation to take part in our Advent, and later on, Lenten, mission project. Rev. Mark and Stefanie Rabe serve the Lord as missionaries through The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in Ethiopia. Mark teaches at Mekane Yesus Seminary in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The seminary is dedicated to training faithful Lutheran pastors and other church workers to serve in Ethiopia. (Small bio may be found on side shelf in narthex.) In conjunction with Advent, we encourage you to save your pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters each day from Sunday, November 25 through Sunday, December 23 for this mission. There is a mission box in the narthex for you to place your mission donation each week. Please also keep Rev. Mark, Stefanie, and their four children, Noah, Gabriella, Julianna, and Matthias in your prayers. BAKE ONE/BUY ONE CHRISTMAS BAKE SALE December 9 th! The LWML will hold their annual Christmas Bake Sale on Sunday, December 9 th. Purchase some delicious goodies to have with your dinner later in the day, or to bring to someone else as a thoughtful gift. Any donations of baked goods ae appreciated. The proceeds will go towards purchasing four new tables for the church and our Advent Mission Project in support of Rev. Mark Rabe. If you are interested in serving our Lord in His missions through our chapter of the LWML, please contact Sue Cravotta, If you are unable to attend our meetings but would like to receive our monthly meeting minutes, please contact Sue Cravotta. Also, if you are interested in receiving the LWML daily Mustard Seed devotional online, please go to their website, LCMS.org and go to Mustard Seeds and give them your address. You Are Invited to Join Us Christmas Caroling At Ocoee Health Care (1556 Maguire Rd., Ocoee, FL 34761) On Sunday, December 9th, At 2:00 PM If you should have any questions, please call Sammy at Save the Date of December 15 for a CTK Dinner Progressive Hosted by the Fischetti s, Hetz s and Hilgendorf s. The event will begin at John and Karen Fischetti s house at 4:30 PM for appetizers, then onto Jonathan & Jill Hetz s at 6:00 PM for the main course and at 7:30 PM to Kevin & Mariliz Hilgendorf s for dessert. A sign-up sheet will be in the narthex. All homes are located in the same subdivision (Turnburry). Join Us On Sunday, December 16, 2018 for a Christmas Train Show in Barnabas Hall Come see all different scales of Trains, from Z Scale 1:220 up to G Scale 1:22.5. Come join in the fun and relive the memories of seeing trains run around the Christmas Tree. There will be numerous displays, and all are welcome.

It s called the Eat More, Give More House of Worship Program. When families from Christ The King Lutheran Church & PreSchool receive their bill at either of these participating restaurants, please mention the House of Worship Program. When you mention the program, please let your waiter or waitress know that you would like your 10% of food purchases only donated back to Christ The King Lutheran Church.

They also need items like jelly and jello. But BOGOs or any deal you find at your favorite supermarket are a great way to stretch your donation dollars as well. Additionally, they are always looking for volunteers. Opportunities include answering the phone, sorting donations, thrift shop sales, or lunch preparation; contact Dan Snook, , if you have any questions or would like to join our little group, dnlsnk@outlook.com. In January we plan to volunteer to help prepare lunch. We ll do this as often as our volunteer force will permit, so come join us. It s rewarding and it s fun too! West Orange County Christian Service Center Warm Clothing Drive We are collecting winter clothing for the needy from October 28 December 9. All items may be new or used in good, clean condition. Sweatshirts, sweaters, jackets, scarves, hats, gloves, socks and blankets for sizes infant through adult can be deposited in the large marked box in the narthex.
