2 Advent and Christmas are my favorite time of year in the church. There s something about this season of anticipation that enlivens my senses. This is a season of extra church services (I love spending time with you in worship) and family gatherings. This is a season of surprises how God decided to send his Son to the world in a barn of all places. We are surprised by presents, how we find the time to send cards and make the cookies. We are surprised how on earth that Sunday School Christmas program could be pulled off! Many surprises, much anticipation, and reflection of how Christ comes, not only at Christmas and on the Last Day, but in our lives each and every day if we have the eyes to see Him. The Hauschild Christmas will have an international flavor! Not only will we have Riccardo, from Italy, with us, but also Frede, from Denmark, is coming back for a visit! We ll have a house full! I am very happy to announce that Alex Hansen has accepted the position of Sr. High Youth Director. Since the Eblings departure in August, Alex has filled in exceptionally well as a volunteer. She has a wonderful ability to relate to teenagers and engage them in fun and in faith. She will work 5-10 hours a week, focusing on Wednesday night Youth Group, Sunday morning Youth Forum, and fun monthly activities or service opportunities. I want to thank the church Council for having a clear vision on ministry to our church youth, and the budgetary dollars that are invested. I hope many people come to the Messiah concert on December 2 nd at 2pm. I just love to be a part of this wonderful Advent musical event! I ve sung and I ve watched both have truly blessed me. Remember Advent brings extra worship opportunities that you will love: Midweek services on Wednesdays at 7pm, a Sunday School Christmas program on Sunday, Dec. 23 rd at 10:30am, and a Christmas in the Barn service on Sunday, Dec. 16 th at 7pm at the Scanlan Farm. And of course, wonderful Christmas Eve services at 4:30pm and 10pm, and Christmas Day at 10am. I hope the pews are filled up with our family of God! You will notice that this newsletter combines December AND January. This is to help with paper costs and fewer volunteers to assemble them. Mark your calendars for our Annual Meeting on Sunday, January 27 th at 11:45am. A soup potluck will precede this beginning at 11:15am. Please let us know if 2 you can bring a crockpot of soup! We ll need many! Also have you ever thought about serving on council for 3 years? We d love to hear from you! God s Peace, Pastor Paul MID-WEEK ADVENT WORSHIP BEGINS On Wednesday nights in December, 7pm 7:30pm, we will have special services that help us anticipate the season of Christmas. Our worship themes will be based on Max Lucado s wonderful book: Because of Bethlehem. Please pause from your busy schedules to come and worship! Sunday Morning Adult Forums in December & January Dec. 9 th and 16 th : Because Of Bethlehem Love is Born, Hope is Here. In these video Bible studies, Max Lucado explores how the One who made everything chose to make himself nothing and come into our world. Jesus birth gives us the promise that God is always near us, always for us, and always within us. Participant guides are free and Lucado s popular book will be available for $10. Lucado studies have been popular at Trinity! Come and experience Advent/Christmas! 9:15am in the Fellowship Hall. Sundays in January: The Jesus Creed Lessons on Loving God and Loving Others. This is a seven-sunday series that explores the 2 greatest commandments (Mark 12:29-31). This video study uses biblical characters such as John the Baptist and Peter to explore themes important to every Christian: What are you living for? What has God called you to become? How is God calling you to compassion? How can we be like the first disciples? Books and participant guides will be available. Join us at 9:15am in the Fellowship Hall.
