1 BETHANY LUTHERAN CHURCH The Messenger MARCH 2016 LEMONT IL HOLY WEEK At the end of this month, we will enter the most holy week of the year as we step through the story of Jesus triumphant entry into Jerusalem, the last supper, his betrayal, death, and come Easter dawn, the joy of Resurrection! It is a week of powerful storytelling and experience as we shout Hosanna and crucify him on Palm Sunday, water is poured over our feet on Maundy Thursday, we sit in the dark sanctuary on Good Friday, and as trumpets blast and the sanctuary comes to life on Easter morning! Join us as we enter the holy story of Jesus, the Christ. Palm Sunday March 20 10:30am Worship Maundy Thursday March 24 7pm worship with First Communion Good Friday March 25 7pm worship Easter Sunday March 27 Easter Breakfast 10:30am Worship MIDWEEK LENTEN WORSHIP March 9, 7pm Worship Meal provided by Sunday School Preacher: Bill McAdam March 16, 7pm Worship Meal provided by the Evangelism Committee Preacher: Gary Gray Capital Campaign Developments Since our November Congregational Meeting, there have been many developments on our capital campaign and Master Facility Plan. In regards to our projects, Don Garling has been working with several companies to secure bids for a new heating system for the sanctuary as well as exploring the possibility for adding air conditioning. He is working closely with companies to finalize project bids. A new handicap entrance door has been ordered. To keep up with code, we need to replace the ladder in the elevator shaft, a project that has been approved to move forward. Gerry Johnson worked on caulking under the threshold plates at a set of entry doors. Bruce Taylor repaired the refrigerator door handle taking the fridge replacement off our list. A group of volunteers started the mold abatement project by removing ceiling tiles and insulation in a couple of our Sunday School rooms. New heating units for the Education building have been purchased and are waiting to be installed. Already, we have made significant progress in achieving our immediate Master Facility Plan goals. Thank you to all those who have given their time and talents to complete these projects! A Capital Campaign Committee is preparing to implement the fundraising part our projects. In the coming months, the Campaign Committee will be reaching out to the congregation for financial support and continued gifts of time and talent. In addition, Glenn McAdam and Gary Gray have been working on securing financing. Together, we re moving forward to strengthen Bethany s foundation and build a future focused on ministry and mission. CTA passes and gift cards to Target, Walmart, Subway and the movies are welcomed. We'll also be working together to furnish an apartment for two young men aging out of the foster care system.
