Today we acknowledge that we have let our denominational differences divide us. We have labeled other Christians by how they worship and how they go about

3 their faith. We are guided by caution rather than given to encouragement. And we fail to see in the other Christian the hands and feet of Christ. Forgive our prejudice, our ignorance, our pride. And open us up to study more about our own faith, our tradition, and our heritage, so that we can better share the good news of your salvation, given to all in Jesus Christ. Hearing assistance is also provided to those who would like it, as well as large print bulletins and music. Mothers Morning Shannon Costello is facilitating a Bible study for young moms. Members of the Martha and Mary Circle have volunteered to babysit, so our young mothers can have time for study, support, and fellowship. The group welcomes also members of the larger community, so please bring or refer your friends. The group meets in the Church Library for about 1 1/2 hours every other week. Each time we meet, we'll read a story and use thought-provoking questions to discuss and grow in our understanding of the mystery and truth about Jesus. Wills Emphasis Sunday and Seminar October 9 after worship from 12-1 p.m. Members will have the opportunity to learn about simple steps of estate planning and putting together a will. Meals for Members Meals for Members is a ministry supported by the Deacons of FPC to provide homecooked meals for those who are unable to make meals for themselves or are in need of a meal due to illness, surgery, loss of a loved one, even having a new baby. The Deacons have been busy this summer helping make and deliver meals to our church members in need and we are looking for volunteers to help out! If you are interested in this important and rewarding ministry, please sign up on the sheet in the lobby. You may sign up individually or in teams. Prison Creative Arts Project at IHM Motherhouse PCAP exhibits bring the artwork of incarcerated artists into the public in order to humanize prisoners, break stereotypes and create dialogue about mass incarceration. 12 CARING CONVERSATIONS Discuss in your home or small group: What people have influenced your life of faith? How did these people influence your faith? In 2 Timothy 1:5, St. Paul notes that the faith of Timothy came from his grandmother and mother. What does this say about how faith is formed? Who nurtures your faith today? Who might be nurtured by your faith? DEVOTIONS Faith in God can be challenged when things are difficult, when those who act wrongly seem to succeed, and those who trust God experience difficulties. Psalm 37 affirms that the gains of the wicked will not last. Verse 4a states, Trust in the Lord, and do good. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, God s spirit doesn t make cowards out of us. The Spirit gives us power, love, and self-control. Make a list of the things in your life that make trust in Jesus difficult. Pray for strength and courage so that your life can be freed to serve others in faith and love. SERVICE There are many people around us who serve as mustard seeds they do many little things that others may not notice, but add up to a big difference. Think of someone who fits this description. Find some way to thank them for their example of faith. RITUALS AND TRADITIONS In 2 Timothy 1:6, Paul mentions that he laid his hands on Timothy. This Christian ritual conveys the passing on of faith and the Spirit from person to person, just as Paul had received faith from ancestors (verse 3) and Timothy had received faith through his family (verse 5). Place your hands on another person s shoulders or head and use the words from A Blessing to Give as a way to support that person s faith with power, love, and self-control Milestones Ministry, LLC.
