Prabhudas Koshy The following list of people with bad behaviour and sinful practices are mentioned in the Bible as disorderly Christians. If anyone who professes to be a Christian is found behaving as such in the following biblical list, he warrants our withdrawal from him. Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us. For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you (2 Thessalonians 3:6-7). Busybody persons (2 Thessalonians 3:11): These are those who meddle with the affairs of others instead of attending to their own duties. They pry into other people s circumstances and domestic affairs, and tell tales about them by magnifying, minimizing, or misrepresenting. Seeing that some Thessalonians had such a tendency, Paul commanded them, in his earlier epistle, to do [their] own business (1 Thessalonians 4:11). Lazy and irresponsible persons (2 Thessalonians 3:11). This often leads to other sins. As it was in the case of the Thessalonians, idleness is the mother pastoral exhortation 3

4 pastoral exhortation of busybodies. Even today, we see this to be the case. People, who have too much free time, leaving their own household matters to others, go about as busybodies and often become tattlers. Fornicator (1 Corinthians 5:11): This is a man who lives in sexual sins. The word fornicator is translated from the Greek word pornos from which the English word pornography originates. It is descriptive of a man who lives a sensual, immoral life. Covetous (1 Corinthians 5:11): This is a materialistic person whose life is driven by greed. The love of money and material glory characterises his life s passions and pursuits. In his philosophy, wealth supersedes truth, mercy and righteousness. Idolater (1 Corinthians 5:11): This is a man who still engages in other religious feasts and festivals, even though he claims to be a Christian. Railer (1 Corinthians 5:11): This is a person who speaks reproachfully of others. He abuses others with coarse, rude, harsh and bitter words. He vilifies other men s character and hurts their feelings. Railers take pleasure in maligning people, no matter how honest and upright their lives may be. Drunkard (1 Corinthians 5:11): He is also known as a winebibber. This man takes to intoxicating drinks, which corrupt his thinking and behaviour. Extortioner (1 Corinthians 5:11): This is a man who swindles others. He robs and cheats others of their possessions. He is also a violent and rapacious person. Schismatic persons (Romans 16:17; 1 Timothy 6:5; 2 John 10): These men cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned. They attempt to cause factions within the church. They usurp the authority of godly leaders and oppose the biblical doctrines that they teach. They who attempt to form parties in the churches are commonly actuated by some evil or ambitious design. Self-promoting persons (3 John 9-11): These are men who impatiently expel other brethren from the fellowship in order to establish themselves in the leadership. They always promote their own preeminence at the expense of others. They seek only their own pleasure and prominence. 4

May the Lord be with you and richly bless your 25th anniversary events in March 2013, namely the Gospel Rally, Public Lectures on The Doctrine of the Church and GBPC 25th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service & Dinner. May the Lord continue to use you to shine for His Truth and to spread His Gospel far and wide in these last days of compromise, confusion, doubt, deception and apostasy. 6 SSSSSSSSSSSSSSS Isaac's Testimony Kelvin Lim junior worshipper s page And he removed from thence, and digged another well; and for that they strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now the LORD hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land (Genesis 26:22). Dear children, though Isaac obeyed the Lord while he lived in Gerar, which was in the land of the Philistines, he faced many troubles. Isaac and his servants urgently needed water for their animals and people who were with them. So Isaac and his servants looked for wells that were previously dug by his father, Abraham, in that land. However, the Philistines had already filled many of those wells with earth (Genesis 26:15). When Isaac s servants found a well of springing water, the herdsmen of Gerar wanted Isaac and his servants to move away. Isaac did not quarrel with them. He named the well Esek, which means contention, and continued to dig. Isaac s servants dug and found another well. He called it Sitnah which means strife because the herdsmen of Gerar came and strove with them again. On both occasions, Isaac bore a good testimony for the LORD his God. He could have insisted that those wells were his because his servants found them. It was not easy for a person to give up wells of water in those days because it was tough looking for water in that land. Isaac was able to do so simply because he had faith in the LORD that He would provide for him. As Isaac s servants continued to dig for water, they found another well. This time, the herdsmen of Gerar did not strive with Isaac, and he called it Rehoboth which means wide places. Thus, he said, For now the LORD hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land (Genesis 26:22). My young reader, Isaac s life in the land of the Philistines was not without troubles as we have learned. But he overcame those problems with faith in the LORD and maintained a wonderful testimony for the LORD his God. Likewise, when you face difficulties and troubles, have faith in the LORD your God. As He had helped Isaac, He would also help you. Trust in the LORD and bear a good testimony for Him! 6
