1 2016 Annual Report 2017 Financial Plan One generation shall praise Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts. Psalm 145:4

2 Dear Oklahoma Baptists, The Bible tells us, One generation shall praise Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts (Psalm 145:4). As Christians, building on this legacy of faith is essential to everything we do. The booklet you hold in your hands contains brief reports, photos and stories about that great legacy of faith, showing just some of the many ways God has been at work among Oklahoma Baptists in This booklet also gives an overview of the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma s 2017 Cooperative Program Financial Plan, which is essential to our shared work as Oklahoma Baptists and continuing the impact of that legacy. In many ways, 2017 promises to be a banner year for Oklahoma. From the 100th anniversary of Falls Creek to a growing emphasis of missions and personal evangelism, I sincerely believe we are going to witness the advance of the Gospel in this state and beyond. As we continue to stand together in praying, giving and going, I believe God will continue to do mighty acts among Oklahoma Baptists. Yours in Christ, Anthony L. Jordan Executive Director - Treasurer

6 Falls Creek Baptist Conference Center Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief Falls Creek Baptist Conference Center continues to impact tens of thousands of people each year for Christ. Established in 1917, Falls Creek is arriving at its 100th year as a spiritual landmark for countless people who have been saved or called to ministry during the summer youth weeks and other events. With state-of-the-art facilities, including the Mathena Family Event Center and the Thompson Family Lodge, Falls Creek now offers events year-round that promote the Gospel. In the summer youth weeks of 2016 alone, there were a total of 5,806 spiritual decisions, which included 2,369 professions of faith and 809 called to ministry. Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief (DR) has trained thousands of volunteers to respond during a disaster. Over the past 40-plus years, DR volunteers have responded to nearly every major disaster. They show the love of Christ to people at their greatest hour of need through services including chaplaincy counseling, debris clean up, preparing hot meals and more. During 2016 alone, DR volunteers served in Arkansas, Louisiana, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas and Canada. The trademark yellow uniform of Disaster Relief volunteers has been seen by disaster victims across North America and the world. Pastor Andy Taylor leads a time of invitation during an evening service at Falls Creek. Thousands of students each summer make decisions for Christ during the evening services. 6 7

10 Oklahoma Baptist Collegiate Ministry Oklahoma Baptist Collegiate Ministries (BCM) is making an eternal impact on the lives of college students across the state. With a BCM presence on nearly 40 campuses in Oklahoma, students are coming to faith in Christ, being discipled and are connected to the local church during this critical stage of life the college years. From events during the year to ongoing activities on campuses large and small, BCM continues to advance the Gospel light and help make disciples. CrossTimbers Children s Mission Adventure Camp CrossTimbers Children s Mission Adventure Camp, located a few miles from Falls Creek near Davis, experienced record attendance in 2016, with more than 4,100 campers. Children, grades 3rd through 6th, encounter Jesus Christ through this hands-on missions camp. A newly introduced pre-teen week has been a popular addition to the camp. According to Camp Director Glenn Barber, there were 487 spiritual decisions in The summer saw 240 professions of faith, and one special trend among these salvations included parents who attended the camp as sponsors and were able to share the Gospel with their own child who prayed to receive Christ at CrossTimbers. In 2016, children at CrossTimbers learned what it means to be transformed by God s calling on their lives. Students gather around God s Word during a Baptist Collegiate Ministries event

12 Connect>1 Evangelism Campaign State Evangelism Conference The Connect>1 Evangelism Campaign is our state convention s primary emphasis for personal evangelism through Sunday School and small groups. In 2016, the BGCO sought to equip and engage every church member in personal evangelism through their small group or Sunday School class. In support of this goal, the BGCO conducted 17 regional Sunday School clinics and engaged more than 500 pastors and 3,000 Sunday School teachers in Connect>1 Evangelism training. This office has already distributed 125,000 One Great Hope evangelism tracts this year. An additional 85,000 children s evangelism tracts have also been distributed. The BGCO has printed more than one million support pieces to help Oklahoma churches more fully engage with Connect>1. The State Evangelism Conference (SEC) is among the most popular annual events in all of Oklahoma. The 2016 conference attracted more than 3,500 attendees, who heard from leading Christian apologetics author Lee Strobel. Through breakout sessions, sermons and events, the SEC is equipping Oklahoma Baptists 1,800-plus churches to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with every person in the state. Churches across Oklahoma were equipped to share the Gospel through the Connect>1 Evangelism Campaign. Author and Pastor Jim Cymbala leads a time of prayer during a recent State Evangelism Conference, an event that has attracted thousands of Oklahoma Baptists annually

13 Church Planting BGCO Events Church Planting is a strategic way to reach Oklahoma for Jesus Christ. In 2016, the BGCO Church Planting Group added eight new church plants, conducted four trainings (one of which was conducted fully in Spanish), provided Discovery Day events for the Cherokee Strip and Atoka-Coal associations, and various other strategic activities. The Church Planting Group is currently assisting potential church planters as they process though the church planting paradigm. BGCO events are a strategic way to engage Oklahoma Baptists 1,800- plus churches on mission to impact lostness in this state. Through longstanding and new events alike, including the Priority of Preaching Conference, Oklahoma Youth Ministry Forum, the Rewired Men s Retreat, the Women s Retreat, the Legacy Retreat and more, the BGCO is bringing together Oklahoma Baptists in fellowship, worship and evangelism. Thousands of women worship God during the annual BGCO Women s Retreat at Falls Creek. For a listing of BGCO events, visit De Brown is a church planter near Kingfisher who is working to reach Native Americans with the Gospel. Brown s testimony was featured in one of the 2016 Oklahoma State Missions Offering promotional videos

14 BGCO Affiliates From evangelism and church planting to disaster relief, Christian education, children s homes and senior living, The Baptist Foundation of Oklahoma strengthens ministries by inspiring generosity and multiplying the gifts of Southern Baptists. In 2015, the Foundation distributed $22 million to Kingdom causes (exceeding a goal of $17 million), and is on pace to surpass 2016 s goal of $17.72 million. The Foundation is also reaching a new generation of givers with the launch of MustardSeed, a charitable giving app that rounds user s credit/debit purchases to the nearest dollar and donates that change to the ministry or church of their choice. A private Christian liberal arts university, Oklahoma Baptist University (OBU) offers 10 bachelor s degrees with 88 fields of study and five master s degree programs. OBU has an enrollment of 2,073, with students from 40 states and 35 other countries. OBU has been named one of the top 10 regional colleges in the West by U.S. News and World Report for 25 years and Oklahoma s highest-rated regional college for 23 years. OBU is the only private Oklahoma university listed as a Great Value College, is ranked as a top university in Oklahoma by Forbes.com, and is one of the best colleges and universities in the western United States according to the Princeton Review. The Baptist Foundation recently introduced the Mustard Seed App, a new charitable giving option where pennies mulitply Kingdom work. Students gather and show school spirit during an event in front of Raley Chapel at Oklahoma Baptist University

In 2016, among many other ministry activities, Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children (OBHC) began a new program, One Such Child. It connects members of Southern Baptist churches with children in DHS custody. The goal is to recruit two families from each church: a foster family (providing for a child s needs on a daily basis) and one family for respite foster care (providing care for the child on an as needed basis for the foster family). In addition, Hope Pregnancy Ministries celebrated its 30th anniversary. Hope has five pregnancy resource centers across the state. A group of boys from OBHC s Boys Ranch enjoying some time outdoors.
