3 THE POWER OF PRAYER God has given us the incredible privilege of being a part of His work through our prayers. When we pray, God hears and answers. In 1 John 5:13-15, we find these words, This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him. (NASB) As you pray, please lead your church to join in praying each week for God s work in our state, nation, and world. Here are some prayer suggestions as you pray for the specific weekly requests in this Prayer Guide. Prayerfully, Pray for: God s provision and protection for missionaries and their families (John 17:15) A burden for the lost (Luke 19:10) God s Word to bring conviction and salvation (John 16:8) Hearts to be convicted of sin (John16:8) God to reveal Christ (Matthew 16:17) (2 Corinthians 4:3-4) God to remove any barriers to their salvation (1 Corinthians 1:18) True repentance (2 Corinthians 5:17) (Luke 13:3) Bob Shelton Director, Cooperative Program Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma New believers to become witnesses and lead others to Christ (Matthew 28:18-20)

Nick serves with the church planting group of the BGCO, primarily focusing on pastoral care for planters and their families. A major portion of your Cooperative Program gifts go to help new congregations to spread the Gospel to places without a Bible-believing church. That God would give him wisdom to serve church planting families well. That God would give him wisdom to balance his ministry roles well. Pray for the Lord s continued blessing on the ministry of Nick and his wife Stacey. For each of you to pray for your Sunday School or small group leader. For churches across Oklahoma to reach lost people with the Gospel and make disciples. Pray for the Lord s continued blessing on the ministry of Bob and his wife Tracy. The board plans every aspect of this family camp, which consists of worship services, classes, Vacation Bible School, recreation, children s church, health fair, blood drive, bone marrow registry and events to strengthen Native American churches. Your church s Cooperative Program gifts help Native Americans from around the world to experience God s life changing grace at Falls Creek. That God would provide a way for more Native American congregations to attend. That God would save many and call more into the ministry. That God would use IFC to bring revival to our churches and our nation. Aug. 12, 2018 He must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. 46 Aug. 19, 2017 Meet the Phillips Clay Phillips is Director of Student Ministry at Oklahoma Baptist University (OBU). Clay implements discipleship and spiritual growth for OBU students through one-on-one discipleship relationships and various ministries available to students both on and off campus. Thus the Cooperative Program gifts do double-duty here, at the college level and across the globe, as students on this campus are called to ministry. That he and Lindsey continually model integrity for students in their walk with Christ. For God to move on the campus of OBU in a powerful way so that He alone receives glory. That they would be attentive to the Lord s leading and speaking as they minister at OBU. Pray for the Lord s continued blessing on the ministry of Clay and his wife Lindsey. That God will use them to develop dedicated disciple-makers. For revival at the University of Oklahoma. Aug. 26, 2017 But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Philippians 3:7 BJENKINS@BGCO.ORG Cooperative Program Prayer Guide 45

51 Meet Charles Cruce Pray for Charles Cruce, Executive Director of Missions for Tulsa Metro Network Association. Charles works with 153 churches of all shapes and sizes dispersed in five counties. Though many neighborhoods have transitioned, congregations are finding more effective ways to connect and share the Gospel with their new neighbors. Some churches are merging with other congregations, some are forming new partnerships with stronger churches, some are replanting where they are with a fresh, new vision, and some are going through a revitalization process with a transitional pastor to recapture God s vision for a preferred future. For churches in transitional communities facing difficult choices. For leadership challenges facing many of the association s pastors. For increased financial support of the association and the Cooperative Program. Pray for the Lord s continued blessing on the ministry of Charles and his wife Debbie. Kenny is tasked with providing training and resources to those serving others in the ministry of emotional and spiritual care to better equip, support, and encourage them in their service. In essence, he is a chaplain to the chaplains. He also looks for new areas open to receiving chaplaincy ministry in an effort to extend and deepen the ministry of the local church. It is his hope that through his efforts, more people will receive the love and support so desperately needed and ultimately more people will come to a saving faith in Christ. That more people would become aware of their personal responsibility to care for others and obey. That new doors for chaplaincy ministry would open up in businesses, organizations, and communities. That more people would seek God for answers to their struggles and questions about life, and that there would be a faithful follower of Christ near when they do. Pray for the Lord s continued blessing on the ministry of Kenny and his wife Kayla. And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Gary has served 13 years in Johnston Marshall Association, preaching, counseling hurting pastors, leading training sessions, balancing bank accounts, helping with ordinations and search committees, and resources for ministry. Due to the national financial crisis, the association has struggled, but God has been faithful to provide. A couple gave a sizable donation and the State Missions Offering provided a block party trailer. Your Cooperative Program gifts, as well as mission gifts, help associations across the state do their ministries more faithfully. For the BCM ministry at Murray State College in Tishomingo, and for the new director to be able to connect to the campus quickly and establish a good ministry there. 55 Meet Denny Freeman Denny works with Baptist Collegiate Ministries (BCM) personnel through their first year, listening to them, offering advice, helping them adjust to their university or college setting, offering ways they can serve in their association, and defining their role in the BGCO. He assists directors in maintaining their buildings and grounds. Most of the BCM buildings were constructed in the 1960s-80s. They are tired, compartmentalized, and need lots of tender, loving care. If the buildings are to be useful as ministry tools, they must appear welcoming, safe and in working order. Cooperative Program dollars help maintain this ministry. For BCM staff as they continue developing strategies of evangelizing and leading the next generation of church leaders. For college and university administrators, teachers and staff, who face challenging situations every day. Pray for the Lord s continued blessing on the ministry of Denny and his wife Elaine. 57 Meet Clay Young Pray for Clay Young, CrossTimbers Camp Manager. CrossTimbers, celebrating 10 years of ministry, exists to support local church efforts to reach lost children in their communities and raise up a generation of kids with an authentic walk with God who actively serve others with missional living. Ten of those occurred at the target sports activity as a staff member shared a spiritual application that missing the target is a picture of our sin for which Christ died. For CrossTimbers summer staff. That they are able to reach out to schools for day camps. That many children would respond to the Gospel. Pray for the Lord s continued blessing on the ministry of Clay and his wife Debbie. Oct. 21, 2018 Can I not, O house of Israel, deal with you as this potter does? declares the Lord. 62 Nov. 18, 2018 Meet Bob Shelton Pray for Bob Shelton, Director, Cooperative Program, Stewardship and Associational Relations. Bob works to promote stewardship and Cooperative Program giving so multitudes of ministries will be able to continue to the glory of God. He says a significant time of influence in his life came through Baptist Collegiate Ministries. Ultimately, this played a major role in answering God s call to vocational Christian service, Bob said. I m so thankful Oklahoma Baptists believe we should be winning and training the next generation on campuses across our state and continue to give through the Cooperative Program to make this possible. That Oklahoma Baptists would capture a vision for generosity, beginning with giving their tithe to the local church.
