Through the prayers of the Mother of God, O Savior, save us. My heart and my flesh rejoiced in the living God. Through the prayers The sparrow found itself a home and the swallow its nest wherein to lay its young. Through the prayers Glory be... now and forever... : Only Begotten Son.... Third antiphon: My heart bursts forth with a noble theme; I tell my works to the king. Tropar, tone 6: Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us.* We sinners bring this appeal to You, O Master,* for we have no defense.* Have mercy on us. You are more radiant in beauty than the sons of men; grace flowed from your lips. Have mercy on us, O Lord In your splendor and your beauty bend your bow, prosper and reign for the sake of truth, meekness and beauty. Have mercy on us, O Lord At the little entrance: Sing praise to the Lord, for he is good, for his mercy is forever. Have mercy on us, O Lord Tropar of the Holy Apostles, tone 4: O Leaders of the Apostles* and Teachers of the world,* pray to the Lord of all to grant peace to the world* and abundant mercy to our souls. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, Now and forever and ever. Amen!: 2
4 Kondak, tone 8: To you, Lord, my Commander and Champion,* I your servant, ascribe my victories.* Delivered from eternal death* I address my thanks to you.* Since you have ineffable mercy,* free me from all kinds of danger as I cry out:* "Jesus, son of God, have mercy on me." Prokimen, tone 4: will proclaim your name to my brethren; in the midst of the assembly I will sing your praises. Verse: I will fulfill my vows before those who fear him. Epistle: A reading from the Epistle of the Holy Apostle Paul to the Hebrews. (2: 11-18) Brothers and Sisters! He who consecrates and those who are consecrated have one and the same Father. Therefore he is not ashamed to call them brothers, saying, I will announce your name to my brothers, I will sing your praise in the midst of the assembly ; and, I will put my trust in him ; and again, Here am I, and the children God has given me? Now since the children are men of blood and flesh, Jesus likewise had a full share in ours, that by his death he might rob the devil, the prince of death, of his power, and free those who through fear of death had been slaves their whole life long. Surely he did not come to help angels, but rather the children of Abraham; therefore he had to become like his brothers in every way, that he night be a merciful and faithful high priest before God on their behalf. to expiate the sins of the people. Since he was himself tested through what he suffered, he is able to help those who are tempted. Alleluia verses: All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord. All the families of the nations shall fall down before him. Gospel: John 3: The Lord said, No one has gone to heaven except the One who came down from there - the Son of Man who is in heaven. Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that all who believe may have eternal life in him. Yes, God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him may not die but may have eternal life. God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. ENGLISH: Instead of Indeed it is fitting : My soul, extol the most dear Jesus, our Loving Lord. With one accord let us the faithful extol the Word of God, ineffably become man for us from the Holy Virgin. In his ineffable wisdom he came from God to restore Adam who was mortally felled by the serpent s sting. Communion Hymn: All the ends of the earth saw the salvation of our God. Through all the earth their voice resounds, and to the ends of the world, their message. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! WORD OF LIFE - June 2014 (Focolare Movement) Because of his love, Jesus wished to be with his followers always. His presence among those who love one another is how he fulfills his promise wherever people may be. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age (Mt 28:20). The evangelist Matthew begins his gospel by reminding us that Jesus, whose story he is about to tell, is God-with-us, Emmanuel (see Mt 1:23). He ends his story with these words. In them Jesus promises he will stay with us always, even after he has returned to heaven. Until the end of time he will be God-withus. Jesus spoke these words to the disciples after he had given them the task of bringing his message to the whole world. He was well aware that he was sending them out like sheep among wolves and that they would face obstruction and persecution (see Mt 10:16-22). For this reason he didn t want to leave them alone in their mission. So, at the very moment he was leaving, he promised to stay! They will no longer see him with their eyes, no longer hear his voice, will not be able to touch him, but he will be present in their midst, just as before and indeed more than before. Until then, his presence had been localized in one precise place, in Capernaum, on the lake, on the mountain, or in Jerusalem. From now on, he will be wherever his disciples are. Jesus was also thinking of all of us living in the midst of the complexities of daily life. Because he is Love incarnate, he will have thought to himself: I would like to be with human beings always, I would like to share every worry with them, I would like to counsel them, I would like to walk with them along their streets, enter their homes, revive their joy with my presence. For this reason he wanted to stay with us and make us feel his closeness, his strength, his love. Luke's gospel tells us that having seen him ascend into heaven, the disciples returned to Jerusalem with great joy (Lk 24:52). How could that be? They had already experienced the reality of his words. We too will be full of joy if we truly believe in Jesus's promise: And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. These words, the last spoken by Jesus to his disciples, mark the end of his life on earth and, at the same time, the start of the life of the Church where Jesus is present in many ways: in the Eucharist, in his Word, in his ministers (bishops, priests), in the poor, in the little ones, in the marginalized in all neighbours. Perhaps we could emphasize a specific presence of Jesus, the one that he himself, again in Matthew's Gospel, pointed out to us: Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them (Mt. 18:20). Through this presence he wants to be able to remain in every place. If we live what he commands, especially his new commandment, we can experience this presence of his also outside of church, in the midst of people, in the places they live, everywhere. 6
8 What is asked of us is love that is mutual, that serves, that understands, that shares in the sufferings, anxieties and joys of our brothers and sisters that love which covers over everything, forgives all things, typical of Christianity. Let s live like this so that everyone may have the chance to meet Him already here on earth. Chiara Lubich KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS - FORTNIGHT FOR FREEDOM Dear Brother Knights, On June 21 July 4, Catholics throughout the nation will commemorate the annual Fortnight for Freedom. This period of prayer, fasting, and advocacy will be a time for faithful Americans to respond to the many threats to religious liberty our country currently faces. This year s theme is the Freedom to Serve, which highlights the good that Catholic apostolates do for the poor. For information on this year s fortnight and suggestions on what you can do on behalf of our religious liberties, we encourage you to visit As leaders in your parish communities, we encourage you to organize and participate in activities in cooperation with your priests and parish leadership. Individually, we ask you to offer special prayers and sacrifices on behalf of our precious First Amendment religious freedoms during the Fortnight. The Knights of Columbus throughout the years has been steadfast in its defense of our First Amendment right to religious freedom. In union with our priests and bishops, we can continue this legacy through our enthusiastic support of the Fortnight for Freedom. Carl A. We are also building upon the foundation of the 2005 Sobor which recognized the need for examining and evaluating available programs and other resources, and communicating this information to parishes. Results of the survey will be compiled and made available to parishes and to all the faithful of the Eparchy to provide a better understanding of the overall direction of the Eparchy and to offer each individual parish a perspective on its situation within the context of the entire Eparchial community. The survey should be completed by every member of the Eparchy who is 13 years of age or more. For more information, and to complete the survey online or print a copy for completion on paper, visit the Eparchial website: Members who do not have access to the internet may request copies from the pastor or parish office. Please participate in this very important project which will help all of our parishes to develop pastoral plans that fit their particular circumstances and needs. 7
