One of my experiences during that time was walking the Via Dolorosa and experiencing the way of the cross first hand. My expectation on that Friday afternoon was a prayerful experience of those final hours of Jesus. Just a few days earlier we had spent hours in the quiet darkness of the Church of Gethsemane. As we gathered in the courtyard, the Franciscan priest on his loudspeaker gathered the fifty or so pilgrims and we embarked into the streets of the old city. It wasn t long before the expectation of prayerfulness was gone. The route takes the group through narrow alleyways lined with shops. The crowd was wall to wall and it was difficult to stay with the group. It was difficult to hear the station prayers over the calls to prayer being broadcast at full blast and echoing down the stone lined alleys. I was disappointed in the experience until afterwards when it dawned on me that Jesus did not drag the cross through the countryside. He dragged it right through the heart of the city. The passion happened on what would have been just another day in the holy city. He would have carried the cross through crowds, past shoppers carrying on as usual, into the noisiness of life. Today is the final Sunday of Lent. Next Sunday we will gather for the procession of the Passion as Holy Week begins. Is your heart ready to enter into the mystery of what your Savior did for you? Or, has your experience of Lent been something like walking through the business of an ancient city with its crowded and noisy path and temptations to stop and shop all along the way? Whether you hear the Gospel of the raising of Lazarus or the woman caught in adultery at Mass this weekend, there is a similar urgency to the shortness of time. The convicted woman likely had only minutes left to live and Martha questions whether Jesus was already too late to do anything for Lazarus. The good news is, whether you have been diligent about entering into Lent, distracted by the business of life, or completely missed the first four weeks, it is not too late enter into the mercy that this season brings. Take your own journey on the Stations of the Cross in the much quieter and more prayerful setting that our beautiful church provides on one of the two remaining Fridays. Or take advantage of one of the remaining opportunities for reconciliation: Friday Saturday Sunday Tuesday Friday 3/18 7:45 am 9:00 am 7:30 pm 3/19 8:00 am 3:00 pm 3/20 7:30 am 3/22 6:30 pm 3/25 9:00 am May the Lord bless you in these final days of Lent as we make our final preparations for the holiest week of the year. Fr. Jason STATIONS OF THE CROSS EVERY FRIDAY AT 7:00 PM IN THE CHURCH.

5 5 WINTER NEWS Preschool and KEP staff were very busy in January. We returned from Christmas break and began registration for Fall 2016; we are well on our way to filling up our classrooms. We had parent/teacher conferences at the end of the month with a large portion of our families able take advantage of the opportunity to have a one on one talk with their child's teacher. February was a wonderful month filled with a variety of events. In recognition of Catholic Schools Week, the teachers attended a catechetical in-service along with the Religious Education team. It was a very uplifting event. Father. Jason celebrated Ash Wednesday with us; we invited the preschool parents and we had an Ashes distribution and activity with them. It was a lovely way to begin Lent and help the children understand the meaning of the ashes. Next we celebrated St. Valentine with our annual ice cream and Winter Fun Party. We closed out February by completing our safe environment training for the children and had a visit from a local dentist office for Dental Health Month. March is moving at a quick pace. We had a huge turnout for our 2 nd annual Dad's Night In. Our rodeo themed event was a lot of fun. Upcoming events include a spaghetti lunch, Mom's Night In, shamrock shakes and Easter celebrations. Lastly, we are collecting coins in our 'rice bowls' for Catholic Relief Services (CRS) 75% of the money collected will go to programs around the world and 25% help fight hunger in our Diocese. For more information, please go to crsricebowls.org: Please bring your rice bowls back on by Thursday March 24. UPCOMING EVENTS Mission trip registration is open until Friday March 18. 6 6 REDISCOVER JESUS- NEW BEGINNINGS (1) At Christmas REDISCOVERING JESUS by Matthew Kelly, was offered to every parishioner. To resurrect (pun intended as we anticipate Easter) interest in the book, personal reflections from some of the RE Catechists and other Parish leaders on each chapter will be published in the bulletin. Hopefully these reflections will inspire you to read the book and see how God is alive in your life. Point to Ponder: Jesus wants you to carry on his work Verse to Live: Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. Matthew 6:33 Question to Consider: How much is the sheer busyness of your life preventing you from living the life God is calling you to live? Prayer: Jesus, give me the courage to let down my guard. PARISHIONER REFLECTION: BY DOMINIC CROTTY In Matthew Kelly s first chapter of Rediscover Jesus, he reminds us that each day is a new beginning, and God is always inviting us to a fresh start. He uses the bible verse from Matthew 7:7, Ask and it will be given to you; search and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. So where do I begin with Jesus? New days pop up all the time, and some have stronger marks than others. About 10 years ago, I remember the days on my way to work when I started listening to Relevant Radio to spend time in silence with God. When my dad died just over a year ago, I made it a point to be with God every Sunday, not just one Sunday here and one Sunday there. Then with my marriage and birth of my children, I felt called to study and spread the faith through catechesis. Each of these new days have built a solid path over time and helped me establish a sure footing when I approach Christ. For me, each Sunday is a fresh start, emboldened with spiritual courage from past new beginnings. How about you? CONFIRMATION: A CALL TO SERVE OTHERS AS DISCIPLES OF JESUS Our Confirmation Candidates are preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on April 3 with Abbot Dismas at 2:00 pm. Confirmation is an opportunity to say yes as a disciple of Jesus. Service is part of every Catholic Christian s Baptismal call. Our Candidates are encouraged to spend 20 hours of service to others. Here are some reaction essays about their service experiences that show the passion, zeal, and energy found in these young disciples of Jesus. I was going to go to a retirement home, and hand out goodies to people that had retired. So the day I got ready to go, I freaked out because I didn t know what to expect during the time. I thought for a second to think about how good it would make these people who have retired to feel. I was handing out food and drinks to the people, and they just seemed thrilled that we decided to help out and show up. I don t regret doing this because when I left the retirement home, I felt good about myself and smiled because I thought how happy and thankful these older people were. Q.E. I went to clean up at a spaghetti dinner for the developmentally delayed at Knights of Columbus for Access Sports. Jesus was there because He really taught me how fortunate I am and how many gifts God gave me. I learned that others really don t have as much as me. I also figured out that I like to help people make their lives better. J.E. It is important to serve others because we take for granted what others do not have. To be good Christians, we should give back. One service experience I had was going to a soup kitchen with my family I remember all the people being so thankful for our help. This is a memorable experience for me because I felt really great to give back to others. It was extremely helpful for the people in need because some of them hadn t eaten for days. This experience also taught me to be thankful for the things I do have. M.J. I was doing a project for class A teacher from Nicaragua came to talk to us. My friends and I were really moved so we decided to take action. We gathered 15 people to create educational games for the Nicaraguan kids. We met in my friend s basement to make three games We sent them over and we were told they were great. Jesus was there because He was in us, almost controlling us to do His will. A.T..
