7 Parish Life Dear St. Thecla Families; Thank you for the incredible "pack the gym night." There is great passion and pride for our school. We are in the process of reading over all the comments, questions and concerns. I believe the commitment is in everyone to do what it takes, and the sacrifices to make that will keep our school growing. Our collective responsibility is to grow the "everyone"...and what a worthwhile and noble challenge this is. More to come. Today at the 10AM Family Mass we welcome all the scouts as we celebrate SCOUT SUNDAY IN AMERICA! After all the Masses we will bless throats in the tradition of St. Blase (and after Mass on Wednesday.) At the 8:30am Mass on Monday we will bless candles for the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. Adult Religious Education continues this Monday night 7-8pm in the church. We will cover chapters 7 and 8 in our workbook Sacraments, Source and Life of the Church. A reflection on pessimism by St. Jose Maria Escriva: If there are mountains in the way, obstacles, misunderstandings, and backbiting which Satan seeks and God allows; you must have faith, faith with deeds, faith with sacrifice, faith with humility. On behalf of our parish staff members, school staff and faculty and our deacons it is with joy that we serve here together with you; -Fr. Gene St. Thecla Music Ministry Dear Parents, I would like to thank you and all the children who participated in the Christmas Eve Children s Choir. The students did a great job! Entrusted with Responsibility Please spend some time this week reflecting on the Annual Catholic Appeal brochure which are available in the pews. Please remember that the Annual Catholic Appeal is much different than a one-time special collection. It is a pledge campaign where you can make a gift payable in installments. As you review the work enabled by your contribution to the Annual Catholic Appeal, please reflect on God s gifts to you. He has given you all that you have. With these gifts, you are entrusted with responsibility. Your gifts to our parish, to the Archdiocese and to the work of the Church throughout the world should be given in gratitude for the continuing gifts that God gives you. Each pledge makes a difference because all parishes participate in the campaign and the gifts of many enable our Archdiocese to deliver needed ministries and services. Our combined gifts not only signify our gratitude to God, they fund a significant portion of the work of our Archdiocese. After our parish goal of $35, is reached in cash, 100% of any additional funds come back to our parish to help to fund our needs. While this goal will is assigned to us this year, rest assured that there is no responsibility to fulfill this goal during the first year (active phase) of the To Teach Who Christ Is Campaign which St. Thecla will participate in this coming July Plans are underway for the Parish Block Party June 6th - keep the date for Our 90th year celebration! All parishioners and families of Vicariate II are invited to participate Thursday, February 12th at a 7:00pm Mass to welcome Archbishop Cupich to our Vicariate. The Mass takes place at St. John Brebeuf Church, 8307 N. Harlem Ave., Niles IL. A reception and an opportunity to have your photo (or family photo) taken with Archbishop Cupich will follow after Mass. Tickets are available at the St. Thecla Parish office. There will be a reserved section in the church for those with tickets. It is our hope to fill the church thus the purpose of the tickets is not to restrict attendance but rather to have people commit to attending the Mass. If you don t have a ticket you will still be able to attend the Mass! We encourage all families to attend the celebration. It can be an especially memorable experience for our young people to be involved in this historical time in our Church. We look forward to being with all of you on Feb.12th as we welcome our Ninth Archbishop to meet the faithful in Vicariate II. Most Rev. Francis Kane Rev. 9 Stewardship Weekly Collections The chart on the left shows the St. Thecla offertory collections fiscal year-to-date through December. A reference to last year s December year-to-date collection and to the December 2014 year-to-date budget is also shown. Monthly electronic giving (ParishPay) is included in the totals above. We have fallen $30,657 short of our fiscal year-to-date collections budget through December. Disappointingly, our December fiscal year-to-date collections were $26,021 lower than the same period last year. A message from the Finance Council: Please use your weekly contribution envelopes or consider enrolling today in ParishPay our electronic giving option to consistently prioritize your support of our parish. Half-way through this fiscal year, the Sunday weekly collections continue to fall well short of the budget that we established. Also concerning is that - in total, our collections are running lower than last fiscal year. We need to maintain the momentum of the great financial progress we made in the last two fiscal years. Have you missed a donation that you can catch up on? Are you able to increase your Sunday contribution this year if you haven t done so already? Thank you for giving this your consideration. We are thankful for your continued generosity and we appreciate your active support for this gift of our parish!
