2 Father Ken s Notes 2 DON ON'T FORGET THE GOOD A PERSON HAS DONE, THE SECOND THEY DO SOMETHING WRONG There was a king who had ten wild dogs. He used them to torture and kill any of his servants who made a mistake. One of the servants gave an opinion which was wrong, and the king didn t like it at all. So he ordered that the servant be thrown to the dogs. The servant said, I served you for ten years, and you do this to me? Please give me ten days before throwing me to those dogs! The king agreed. In those ten days, the servant went to the guard who looks after the dogs and told him he would like to serve the dogs for the next ten days. The guard was baffled but agreed, and the servant started feeding the dogs, cleaning them, bathing them and providing all sorts of comfort for them. When the ten days were over, the king ordered that the servant be thrown to the dogs for his punishment. When he was thrown in, all were amazed to see the ravenous dogs only licking the feet of the servant! The king, baffled at what he was seeing, said, What has happened to my dogs? The servant replied, I served the dogs for only ten days, and they didn t forget my service. Yet I served you for a whole ten years and you forgot all, at my first mistake! The king realized his mistake and ordered the servant to be set free. It's easy and it's wrong to forget the good things a person has done the moment that person makes a mistake. Don t put out the history that is filled with good and committed works because of a single mistake you don t like. Father Ken

4 SMM FLEA MARKET 22~23~24 SEPTEMBER 22~23~24 4 Volunteers will receive donations on September 19 and 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. for our annual Flea Market (no clothing, televisions, computer or exercise equipment). Donations may be brought to the collection tent in front of the Parish Center on those two dates. Your donations are greatly appreciated and make this fundraiser event possible! Volunteers are needed on September for collection of items and September 21 for setup and pricing of items and September for assistance during the sale. 5 Adult Scripture Study ~ Have you ever wanted to study Scripture? Now s your chance. An Adult Scripture Study entitled, Introduction To The Bible, will be offered beginning Tuesday, August 9. This is a six-week study that involves discussion questions, small group sharing and viewing a DVD. This class is for anyone...for those who have never studied the Bible and for those who are veterans. Possible class times are Tuesday morning from 9:00-10:30 a.m. and either another afternoon or evening time. Cost: $15 which includes two books of commentary and questions. Adult Scripture Study 5 Music & Liturgy CHOIRSHOIRS AT SMM If you have the gift of music, please prayerfully consider sharing it with one of your parish choirs: MUSICUSIC ASSISTANTSSSISTANTS WANTEDANTED The Adult Choir sings at weekend liturgies and many solemnities, September through Corpus Christi. Rehearses: Wednesdays, 6:45-8:45 p.m. The Resurrection Choir sings for funerals. Rehearses: onehalf hour prior to funerals. The Youth Choir (for youth in Grades 4-12) sings twice a month, September - Pentecost. Rehearses: Sundays, 9:45-10:45 a.m. The Mass & Rehearsal Schedules for the Adult Choir and the Youth Choir are currently available. 7 Community Corner 7 The Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court #1008, Vandergrift, will hold its summer picnic on Tuesday, August 2, at 6:00 p.m. in St. Gertrude Church Hall. The cost of the picnic is $5.
